Swingyde

Recommended Posts

I bought one of these (well a chinese copy off ebay) and it really does highlight how key my takeaway and hinge is to getting that ball up in the air and in a straight line!

When i've got that brace on the ball is hit by another player its so good its unreal, I can reel off for fun. Obviously taking it off needs to be done at some point so as soon as it comes off I find it hard to repeat the same action.

Questions for anyone who has had a swinggyde

1. How long have you used it in training and how long have you used it to improve your swing

2. what type of routine have you followed with it? Per day? couple of times a day etc?

3. Do you use it on the driver/woods as well to train the takeaway?

In regards to the takeaway I really am struggling at the moment after about 14-15 holes with keeping momentum, I appear to completely lose the ability to get the club open sufficiently and either hook or fat it. Does anyone have any advice/tips or do I keep working with the gyde?

Thanks

Dan

I think the Swinggyde is a great tool on all full wrist set shots. It does help you to sort out the assembly of solid alignments from the address position and stay aware of what your face/arms are doing.

As far as routine, I haven't used one in a year or so, I had one that I used a lot 10 years ago. I leant it to a student and it vaporized. When I did use it, it was about 10 balls with the SG and 10 with my club.

I used it on all full shots, but mostly with my 6 or 7 iron.

Thanks for the swift response.

10 on 10 off sounds good, then I'll gradually work down to favouring no gyde.

I was a bit skeptical with it to be honest, I come into golf after Tenpin Bowling for 20 years, in Bowling people rarely bowl with a wrist aid because it makes you lazy. I guess golf is different (and harder) :)

Time to get Swingyding :)

I've got 2 of them. I put 1 on a shorter iron and another on a mid-iron or hybrid during range sessions. 4 or 5 shots with one club, 4 or 5 shots with the other club. Really helps engrain the proper wrist set through the bag when using them on different clubs at the same range session. My only complaint is that I don't use them more often. Even when they're in my trunk I still get lazy and decide not bring them out to the range sometimes.

The thing about any type of guided practice is that the user must pay close attention to what they are feeling during it's use. "Mechanics produce and feel reproduces"!

This is so right, I am not really one to think that the habit i'll get from using such an aid will suffice, I need to be able to feel the correct takeaway, hinge and downswing.

Make sure you match the swinggyde alignment on the club with your loading procedure...drive or drag (hitting or swinging) or you will destroy your flying wedge alignments. A vertical alignment of the swingyde on the grip absolutely cocks the right wrist, more so for the hitter, and prevents the preferred bent, level condition of that wrist for either pattern. Turning the swinggyde considerably more toward the right side of the grip, which is appropriate for the hitter, destroys the wedge alignments for the swinger. Understanding right elbow positions recommended for each stroke type and the appropriate lag pressure point location should help to clear any confusion concerning swinggyde alignment. Bottomline, vertical alignment of the swinggyde produces a cocking and bending action of the left wrist, and a cocking action of the right wrist. (I don't have a swinggyde device on hand so I can't give definitive alignment guidance, but I've had a number of students produce them and saw its inherent weakness if aligned improperly.)

I just picked up one on the bay for 1$. 3$ shipped. I'm actually looking to scour another one so that I can use two of them on different clubs at the range like someone said earlier.

Has anyone else used one recently. What can I expect? I look forward to 1. no snow : ( and 2. using this and a few other aids to fine tune the swing s'more....

The Swingyde is more applicable for the cp release(like Hogan and Slicefixer) rather than the cf release. With the cp release it is easier to keep the Swingyde on your forearm for a longer period of time.
By the way there will never be no snow in New Jersey

How can you tell which is right for you? it does seem that you could align it poorly and really screw yourself up? would a martinez swing require it more on the right side?

Which eBayer did you buy from? How do you know it was a "Chinese copy"?

I was looking for another on eBay and didn't find any. I'll let you know if I find any. The seller doesn't have any other items for sale.

Funny, the photos on the link will destroy somebody.

The tool is useful, ONLY if it makes or ecourages you to get it the right positions. To do that you need to set up the Left Arm Flying Wedge properly with the shaft, left wrist in arm in the same plane (flat!). The "cuppy" example on the link is not going to help anyone.
