moving to dallas need recommendations

I'll be Plano/Dallas for 6 months.
I am looking for any recommendation of munis/public course to play as well as a good instructor.

I would recommend playing Sherrill Park in Richardson. It's just off of 190 (Bush Turnpike). Both course 1 and 2 were rated in the top 5 DFW courses under $45. I end up playing there almost every weekend and usually on Thursday if I can take off of work.

I don't know about courses, but FortWorthPro who is a member here sounds excellent and has a wonderful reputation. His mentor is SliceFixer.

In either February or March, the Dallas Morning News publishes its Texas Golf Guide with rankings of the best courses (public and private lists) and holes in the state, including public courses ranked by cost. (They used to have the entire guide online, but the bookmark I had no longer works and I can't find it on their site.) Based on the courses I've played and people I've talked to, the rankings are fairly accurate.

Most of the courses I have experience with in the DFW Metroplex are in the mid-cities area, so I'm afraid I can't offer any firsthand experience. However, there are a ton of public courses in the DFW area, so enjoy your search for your favorite once you arrive.

Chase Oaks on US75 in Allen/Plano. 18 holes and 9 holes course. Very challenging.

eeek - save your money.. Chase Oaks is nothing special... kind of crappy from what I've seen. Go play at Sherrill Park, or Firewheel Bridges course.

Ridgeview Ranch is decent.

[DL4Golf]

Golf Club at McKinney. Usually not overcrowded. The greens were excellent at times last year.
Fred Couples Bridges course in Gunter. Least crowded course around. Worth the drive to avoid the crowds.
Others - Bridlewood, Woodbridge, Coyote Ridge
About an hour away - Tierre Verde, Waterchase, Lands End, Legacy Ridge
