Just came across this video. Hey snT guys...is this much movement of the head to the right allowed? I'm actually surprised to see this movement. Explains why he appears to be with more weight on the right leg at the top compared to Charlie Wi.

He's hitting a punchy 3 wood too...so even more surprised he has head movement right. I know everyone moves a bit...but I thought he was working on staying centered? What gives?
you ever seen foley holding a club up to his head to make sure he didnt move, well looks like he needed a little more of it right then, lol.

btw look at the pictures I posted a few posts back, his head doesnt move, same tournament as well.

Tembolo, key words you used was "working on", getting better though as illustrated by the opening post, easy to revert a bit in competition.

You guys should check this out. Shows a couple key differences between his old and new swing. In the last 5 or so minutes, the guy talks about differences between him and Sean O'Hair...you can see here just how much more stacked on his left side Sean is, where Tiger has a bit more of his spine tilted away from the target. Makes sense...explains the differences between Tiger and Wi as well. Wi definitely looks to be a bit more on his left side compared to Tiger. Good stuff.

Always use video...you see in this video I gave how he moves it a bit right and then moves back to his left very quickly. In your pics you could have gone from one frame to the next skipping over the part where he moved it. Always ideal to show the entire motion so people can really see what he is doing. From there snap a still shot to prove your point.....but the footage can never lie. Then nobody can argue with you!

S&T is just a marketing thing - the truth is that all good swings feature a lot of what they "teach" in S&T anyway - those guys are just putting a name to it and taking it a bit further than any good player already knows to do. I'll probably get flamed for this, but look at some old pics of Hogan - tell me he's not on his left foot at the top...

It's a system of measurement. I think it's amazing how quickly the teaching community has adopted the lexicon. 5 years ago, nobody but Mac, Mike, and Andy, and a few teachers way brighter than me, talked about neck tilts, side tilts, pressure on the left foot, back extension, correct ball flight amongst PLAYERS, I could go on and on. Even teachers who don't care for what they think of as the "method" have adopted the terminology and learned a TON from it...

Another valuable part of what Andy and Mike teach is the correct ball flight laws(not exclusive to S&T), and ingraining a shot pattern by understanding the geometry of ball position, club face alignment, weight distribution and handle location.

The name is a result of the golf digest article, they had two choices, they could name it or gd would.

yea the name is a two sided coin. One side any swing method that has a name is a turn off automatically and sounds like a fad. Other side would mike and andys etc methods of swinging became as popular and widespread without the controversial name. Would we still have the amount of instruction available to use if the name hadnt been created. They might of still been guys teaching the method to people on tour without the public knowing much.

I believe he does this moreso in order to prevent vertical head movement. "Keeping the head still" is a misnomer and creates tension. The head will move thoughout the golf swing, only one wants to minimize this movement. Allowing the head to "float", as if seperate from the body, works well in my experience

Sorry Red, didn't see this until now. I don't think this is anything useful because people have been told to stay predominately left for over 20 years for short and mid irons. He needs to show what he teaches with woods and long irons to really show how he is different from a traditionalist or SnT.

Hi Kev,

Just wanted to say that over the last 20 years, MAC taught dozens of instructors most of these things, it's just that Andy and Mike were the first to go public with them in a large way, other than maybe McCord (e.g. much of the swing stuff in "golf for dummies" is straight up MORAD).

Also, to all the guys who say "He should go back to Butch," what makes you think Butch would take him back?

Does anyone know what type of ball flight Tiger is trying to use as his stock shot because it looks like he has push draw-draw alignments with his body...........I assume he is not fading it because if he is trying to he needs a lot more work with Foley.

he hits alot of different types of flights. Lately Ive seen him hit fades and draws. He does still have a two way miss though. His go to shot seemed to always be a cut shot though, the power fade.

Good question. I know he is swinging a lot like O'Hair now, or at least trying to. I know O'Hair hits an online or tiny push fade. Tiger could use some of that.

His long irons are the same. in this video he is hitting a 6 iron. He does do things a little different for driver, i have some teachings of his where he covers the driver.

for the driver he teaches 55 right leg 45 front leg the entire swing from address to impact. This weight proportion is done by starting at address with a slight tilt of the upper body away from the ball and staying there the entire swing at 55 back leg 45 front leg so your head isnt moving any the entire swing. Personally I would have to try this to have any opinion on it. I dont have any issues hitting driver but I might try this for driver to see how it works.

btw , this is alot like how david duval hits driver, atleast in the sense of having the body tilted away from the ball at impact.

Ah cool. So that is different from SnT right? SnT teaches 55 left/45 right no matter what right? And they want you to feel more level at address, even for a driver. Is it true?

I believe it is a little different in the sense that Foley teaches 55 back foot 45 front foot for the entire driver swing.

I mean for the guy who shifts his weight, they even try to get their weight into the front foot for impact with driver, so I dont know about Foleys method. Im going want to watch it again

I don't think there's any method that doesn't have you shifting weight toward the target on the downswing...everyone is more or less similar in that regard. Have you ever heard of a theory that has you falling back on the downswing or just staying there?

Foley doesn't say to keep your weight 55 on your right throughout the whole driver swing...he's clearly on his left side at the end of the followthrough with a driver.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you...I don't agree that Foley says to keep 55 of your weight on your right leg throughout the whole driver swing.

Have you ever heard of a theory that has you falling back on the downswing or just staying there?

yea I was off a little I watched it again. if you want I can post a small clip of it where he shows driver. Do you think there is a problem with doing this?

I know you have seen the golf evo driver video, so im not real sure what you mean by level at address. The axis pre set is just done by pushing the hips forward rather than moving the head towards the right foot.

yea this is true. both foley and s&t teach a pre set axis tilt from the hips and ball being forward at address

this one? http://www.youtube.c...h?v=JXuikUmHeEQ

The guy clearly says you need to have your center stacked over the middle of your stance (around 1:32 into the video), and your hips are pushed forward. He never says anything about tilting your spine away from the target at address. He does say that in the downswing when you push your hips forward then you add axis tilt away from the golf ball. That's not the same thing as adding the tilt away from the ball at address.

he says you add the axis tilt at 3:45 into the video...and that's into the downswing, not at address.

We also have Wi here with barely any axis tilt away from the target. It looks like this is only happening really because his right hand is slightly below his left...otherwise he would be literally standing with his shoulders level. What do you think?

Tiger looks very similar but the ball is further back, so i'm guessing he is hitting something more punchy. In any case, Tiger still can't quite stay centered as well as Wi yet.

You think by putting 55 right and 45 left as Foley does it...it encourages more tilt away from the target? I think it does, and it changes the dynamics of the swing quite a bit.

i watched it again. Foley wants 55 on back foot and 45 on front at address and top of swing for driver, starting the downswing its just the same as before in which the weight goes forward. So theres no weight shift back at all during the swing. I think he wants 55 on back because of the ball being forward and your hips being forward with your axis behind the ball at address which would put a little more weight on the back foot.
