Tiger should win soon (merged)

Back to Normal
Having felt that Tiger had lost his drive and agressiveness because of those "rehabs" he has gone to that have made him a nicer person but a lousier golfer, I think today shows he may be back sooner than later. This week has been complete with cursing, club slamming, and interview declines. That is the old Tiger coming back that people don't like but seems to be the key to his playing well. He should win shortly if this weeks "old" behavior is an indicator. A few good putting rounds should help as well, particularly as good old new coach Sean Foley has him driving it better than ever at 38%.

My first comments on Tiger in this forum ever.
I am totaly disgusted with Tiger's behavior he displays while he plays golf. It is getting so bad if I want to watch golf I will soon have to shut the door and watch golf behind closed doors. My wife made comments on his behavior today. My 13 yr. old asked me today why I get on her about certain things at the range when Tiger doesn't have to act the same way. Tiger does alot for golf and for the youth of golf but someone needs to tell him he is hurting golf by the way he acts on the course now. They need to edit out all of Tiger's crap because I am getting tired of it. If Tiger needs all of that to be coming back then I would rather he not come back.

board is back to normal aswell, every second thread is about Tiger. Golf needs him plain and simple. This board is comprised of the most hardcore golf fans in the world and even here it's twice as active when Tiger's involved.

I have never been within a sniff of Eldrick's camp, and never will be. But, this insanity regarding his swearing and the like, is really grabbing at straws. A minimum of 75% of touring pros have "fits" during their rounds, most of them remain anonymous because they aren't on camera when the "bombs" go off.

He's certainly not an angel, and probably in the Top 10-15 hotheads out on tour, but when you get on his case for tantrum throwing, remember to liberally spread your dissent around to others that deserve it as well.

I think this board is mostly comprised of the most hardcore golf fans around. The rest of the makeup is solely Tiger Phans.....who couldn't care less about any other player out on tour. Some of the threads in the past have clearly borne this out.

When is playing a particular week, Mon, Tues, and Wed is chock full of....."Tiger will definitely win this week....Tiger will blow away Phil....Tiger will win by 8"....etc...etc, ad nauseam. The Phans are everywhere!

Then, come Sun when he doesn't perform to their expectations, as he has the last 10 months or so, they are nowhere to be found.

It is how it is.

Amen Case!

I wish people would get it through their heads........Is Tiger going to be great again? No doubt about it. But are we going to see the "Tiger Woods of old"..........Never again.
While he was out doing his thing last year.....alot of good golfers showed up on the world scene.

No doubt Tiger suffers the scrutiny of the media more than others, but that was his and his camps doing to some extent always promoting him as something he was not. In this day and age of instant news nobody is safe. The other pros do a lot of cursing and club slamming but seem to know when the camera is on and also don't seem to do it as much during a round. In the past the famous pros did much of the same but it was never reported on. Arnold Palmer in his prime years was one of the biggest club abusers on the tour. He learned to stop it when the cameras went on. Many had foul mouths like Snead. Some were dangerous hotheads like Tommy Bolt who would regularly helicopter clubs over the galleries heads. Some were just foul people, Ben Hogan used to flick lit cigarettes at people that annoyed him after putting along the green. Probably one of the foulest mouths on the tour is Freddie Couples but he learned to curtail it when the cameras came on to a great extent. Some in the 50s and 60s would show up drunk as anything but none of that was ever reported or if it was it was more like can you believe he played that well in that condition type articles? I must say the only pro I never saw do any of this is Jack Nicklaus and I have attended tournaments he was in since 1959. Others had a camera persona like Player and Trevino that are really insufferable after the cameras went off (in the prime of their careers).
I still think all that rehab stuff did was to some extent neuter Tiger's game. Maybe he is now getting over the stuff he "learned" about himself and will get on with playing good golf again. Blow off Kostis, get a black list going again, start taking people to the golf woodshed that make comments etc. etc. If cursing, club throwing, spitting is what's needed then fine get on with it. If he doesn't start winning the PGA Tour is going to take a bath in prize money and TV revenue. The PGA can't afford another 2010 ratings and attendance wise.

I love how we have to watch him hack it up on TV because he's Tiger Woods. He could be 20 over par and he'd still be all over coverage. When most pro's hit a bad shot they just hand the club to the caddie and start walking. Tiger has to do a big song and dance when he hits a bad one.

I used to hate him but respected his golf game and his impact but now I have zero respect for this guy. Hope he never gets it back.

I doubt that "going to rehab" meant for TW what it means to the rest of us. It was an attempt to improve his image and I doubt he has really made any attempts to change.

You know, someone said how golf needs him; I actually came across a research study that described the harmful impact he had on competitive golf about 7 or 8 years ago. Might be able to find it.

The rehabs he attended were only Window Dressing, he hasn't changed. Regarding his game, not in a good state right now his swing looks very uncomfortable. I have read a few articles about his new coach, very few are positive. Several think he has copied others, and has little real knowledge to provide. I am a Tiger fan and think that his current mechanics are not up to his standard. Whatever it is I hope he gets it resolved sooner than letter.

Please change your caddy and go back to Butch.. something's gotta give
I'd like to see Tiger team up with Billy Foster, but that's not going to happen

Butch did a lot for Tiger. 1996-2002 was a vintage period where Tiger was in a different stratosphere to the rest

Butch is so much more than a swing coach. He actually learned from his time with greats like Seve & Norman when they were dominant & he can pass on litle secrets gleaned from these geniuses which makes a real difference. He also knows how to manage the hangers-on who want a piece of Tiger. He was able to get rid of certain people he didn't want around, leting Tiger focus more closely, which is becoming increasingly difficult for him these days

Recently, Butch has said that he doubts whether Tiger should even be competing at the moment. There is obviously one heck of a lot of work to be done

Having said all that, I agree with the earlier post about Tiger's putting from 10 feet. If he goes back to holing every one he looks at, he'll grab a few more wins. Add to that the disproportionately huge number of clutch putts he used to hole and, yes, he'd be contending again

I recall watching him close out the Dubai Desert Classic in 2006 with a final round 69. He hit just 2 fairways and 5 greens in regulation

Tiger needs to play more. It will be good for both he and the tour.

What else does he have to do these days anyway?
This is something I can't understand. He stands there and bemoans the fact that hitting balls on the range and playing are two different things and yet, he won't step up and start playing every week (on Tour) when clearly that is what he needs to do.

Maybe he doesn't really want to play anymore and at some point he will just announce that he has lost it (ala Ian Baker-Finch) and pick up the mic. Can you imagine Tiger and Miller in the same booth?
