Lets not forget many of the pro's have their heads hotmelted and this affects their weight selections/placements vs ours noticably.

I busted open the package as soon as I got to work yesterday... What a beast the R11 is truely! 10.5 stock stiff produced more ball speed/ yardage than my FT-Tour by almost 7 mph on average. I carried it further but still wasn't getting the foolish carry numbers that I see below. Are the numbers beliveable? I'm just asking...

In that ad, what caught my attention was the almost universal flip flop of the weights between the heel and toe between old and new. Here's what I mean:

Before / after, toe:heel

Dustin Johnson 1g:10g / 10g:1g

Justin Rose 1g:10g / 10g:1g

Sean O'Hair 1g:10g / 10g:1g

Martin Kaymer 10g:1g / 1g:10g

For three of these players, they flip flopped from a heel bias in weighting to a toe bias. The one player who was toe biased went to a heel bias. Evidently something about this head is much different than the past head they played.

Also found it interesting that the ad states that Justin Rose picked up 26 yards and Martin Kaymer added 21 yards. Both players had spin rates of 3200 before and dropped them to 2600 & 2300, respectively.

Given that COR has not changed, makes me wonder why they were out there before with less than an optimum driver. Regardless of which model they were playing previously, it could have been bent and hot melted to optimum launch conditions.

Most would not regard Justin Rose's launch angle of 10.5 (borderline too low) and spin rate of 3200 (borderline too high) as optimum.

Maybe the ball is not all that is being spun.

Cool Data, however, I call BS (on TM -- not the OP lol ) on the consistent 10g and 1g weight throughout for all the players......
Kaymer is 10 in the heel and 1 in the toe so he's different. It makes sense for the others if they are trying to avoid left.
The weights are micro adjustments mostly made to get the spin to change. The weight in the toe will normally bring spin down, heel to bring spin up. Durinig fitting the fitter will start with face angle FCT, then the look with the ASP, then will use the weights to micro adjust ball flight and spin usually 250-500 rpm.

Your statement is killing me. I want a ft tour or r11, but the ft is so much cheaper. Not sure about the distances.

Killin' you, Hell I gotta find a way to scrape up the extra coin to get this bad boy. My Ft Tour has done fantastic for me, I was fit on a Trackman in May and Callaway built it spot on to the specs. I received it 1 week before a tournament in New Hampshire and beat it up. The FT Tour is fantastic but the R11 has up the ante. The FT Tour is far from a short hitting club, it truly performs on miss hits.

I saw the R11 in person for the 1st time yesterday at Golfsmith. Have been openminded regarding the white look from tv pics, magazine pics, and posts on the web. In person, though, it hurt my eyes. I hit it on one of their monitors along with some other drivers. I don't even remember the #s I got I was so blinded by the white. I'd give it another try as my b-day is coming up and I'm wanting to get fit for a new driver. But as of right now, my money is leaning to the 910 D3.

I love that Sergio is last and almost seems he was an afterthought. He has become irrelevant. Good videos.

I love that Sergio has just had a Top 10 finish this weekend and his game looks like its coming back. Sergio is a joy to watch, passion, talent, Iron striking that is 2nd to none... I'd rather watch him flush a 2 iron off the fairway running after it to see the result than the safe boring hybrid hitting bail out Pro's on Tour. He was out of order spitting at the hole but that was a one off mistake. I understand that more than the one's who NEVER shout Fore and are forever throwing golf clubs!

Justin Rose increased 30+ yards?!?! Something is off on either his beginning yardage or the end result. He is still averaging 286 yards according to PGAtour.com driving stats (yes I know how they take this measurement and might not be the most accurate). Another TaylorMade skew of the numbers. Good for them. I hope they continue to sell the tinker toy drivers in which 98% of those who purchase will never mess with the settings. Me? I will keep bombing the Krank Rage driver. I don't think everyone is reading this the right way. If you watch the video, they didn't have him hit his "gamer" at the beginning. They gave Rose an R11 (we don't know what shaft or loft) set at neutral. He hit it, they give the launch angle - spin rate - yardage. After they finish the adjustments, he's hitting it 26 yards further than the original neutral setup. That's all.

 • 4 weeks later...

I cut down the blur tp 65 x shaft and am playing it ground to grip at at 44 1/2 with a 10gr in the toe and a 8gr in the heel ..face is nuetral .. fct loft is on +1.. All I can say is dont knock this R11 TP until you have tinkered with it.. After all it was made for tinkering.. If I had only gone with the factory weight setup I would have been very disappointed.. I am glad I bought it and have no regrets as it is helping with fairways in reg and as long as it needs to be.

If I'm not mistaken aren't those the settings & numbers in the R11 adds in all the mags?

Got my issue of Golf Magazine a couple days ago and saw a Taylormade ad that I thought was interesting. It shows how some of the guys have their r11's setup.

Dustin Johnson

FCT- Lower
ASP- Open
MWT- 10g toe, 1g heel

Launch- 13.3
Spin-2,500 rpm
Ball Speed- 180 mph
Distance- 334 yds

Justin Rose

FCT- Lower
ASP- Closed
MWT- 10g toe, 1g heel

Launch- 11.5
Spin-2,600 rpm
Ball Speed- 165 mph
Distance- 313 yds

Sean O'hair

FCT- Standard
ASP- Open
MWT- 10g toe, 1g heel

Launch- 9
Spin-2,700 rpm
Ball Speed- 166mph
Distance- 308 yds

Martin Kaymer

FCT- Lower
ASP- Open
MWT- 1g toe, 10g heel

Launch- 9.5
Spin-2,300 rpm
Ball Speed- 167 mph
Distance- 305 yds
Ok there is something wrong with either me or my driver because Justin Rose has a ball speed of 165 mph and he hits it 313 and my ball speed is 152 and I hit it like 260. I have been seriously struggling with my driver this year and late last fall.

Hey I'm in New Hampshire! There are some pretty sweet courses up here believe it or not.

The configurations guys are using I believe are the ones that they are getting the best performance & distance from, I spent a good 2 hours on the MATT dialing in my R11 drivers & it was tough as this is the first year I'm using ultra light driver shafts in the 60-70 gram range when I always played them in the 78-90 gram range. I was super surprised to see the way Sergio has his R11 setup & these were the reasons for his choice, "I place 10 grams more weight in the heel to help draw the ball a little. On the loft I have it on the lower setting so it's 1 degree less than the 9.5 degrees on the club. On the face angle I have it set closed, again to take the right side out of play.". I still have a hard time to believe the dramatic change in numbers they post in th add, but it is possible... When I was at TaylorMade to get my new gear I was amazed on how much you could change your spin & launch angle by simply adjusting one, two, or all three features at a time of a few, my numbers are better after dialing everything in & gained about 8-12 yards. I've got three R11 TP drivers, two 9 (Miyazaki Kusala Blue 61x/Aldila Alpha RIP 60x) & a 10.5 degree (Matrix Ozik HD7x), they've all got different configurations so we set them up so they play similar. The gamer R11 TP that I've got in the bag is the 9 degree with a Miyazaki Kusala Black 61x 44.75" with the fct; lower, asp; open, mwt; 11 grams toe/3 grams heel. I'm going to be heading to the TaylorMade Lab in Bolton when I get home in May to go through my new bag of sticks to make sure everything is spot on as it was when I was at TM & will be anxious to see if I get the same numbers I did in December. A few of the guys setup's they've got on their site & ads I find odd but if thats how they're getting the best numbers that's the reason they've got it set that way. One guy's configuration we should all know well is JD's,Johnny probably has it set to lower, open, with 16 grams in the toe & 1 gram in the heel, he's still probably going to find the left side of the fairway 40% of the time like he did last season! If there was ever a driver to build anti-left you would think it would be this one but no matter what JD fights that big sweeping draw.

Whats a typical ball speed for a 105 swing speed
A typical 105 should be around 155-157 if you are in the right shaft....I am around 106-108 and will usually have a ball speed around 160-163. Shaft is so important in getting these numbers. Although, when I hit the stock R11 with the 60 gram Blur-Stiff in 9 degree...was near 170 ball speed!! Ridiculous what that shaft does..!! Have to try the 65 gram in the TP!!
Yes amazing what a longer shaft does.

Regardless of what they hit before, in one tuning session where it appears they only fiddled with weights, not shafts, lofts or anything else I still am having a hard time buying into the fact that some of these guys picked up THAT much yardage...

well its hard to believe what taylormade puts for the pros on their page. First of all they arent telling the truth about the Pro's weight set up, If you watch the sean o hair vid, they set him up with 4 in the heel and 6 in the toe and on the site they say 1 heel 10 toe. They only say that stuff because the average guy buying the driver only has the 1 and 10. A weight kit really helps with dialing in your swing, the 1 and 10 is just too drastic of weight movement.
