I have had NDMC on my irons since they came out. I just put a VDR on my 3 wood and it's just as good if not better. Same type of feel and cheaper. When my grips on my irons wear out I may put VDRs on my irons too. It's a great grip.

I might do the same for peer cost alone. Time will tell to see if the vdr holds up. The ndmc last me about two seasons.

I really like them. I think I prefer them over the NDMC. I have them on my Driver and Wedges so far. I don't want to change my iron grips yet, as they are still pretty new. These are definitely going to be my preferred grip this year. I'm using the Red, if that makes any difference.

These look pretty good. The white ones look grey to me in person. I wonder how these work as far as their features/benefits. Supposedly having more channels for more grip. I may try some. I like the lamkin performance plus 3gen that feels similar to me.

I need to try one.

  • 1 month later...

Have been using Decades since '05-'06 somewhere.........just started getting into the VDR's as I was looking for something that maybe soaks up just a tiny more shock.

My original interest in the VDR originated from how much I liked the Mizuno "M-21" grip, which is the standard Mizuno grip, and VERY similar to the VDR besides the slight texture change and after investigating, also discovered a compound change too.

Initially, I wasn't all that impressed, the two issues: having done nothing but Decade Cords for the past several years, and prior to that Tour Velvet Cords......so a change in feel for sure - 2nd, the texture and compound difference from the M-21 I liked so much.

However, after committing to giving them a chance by putting them on my entire set, I am starting to like them more and more as each day passes. I am going to give them time, and if I don't 100% like, I will go back to Decades.

But, I believe they are a really great grip, and will suggest them to others.

Put VDRs on my 4,5 and wedges when I reshafted them. Rest of my set are NDMCs. It's a little hard to explain, but I don't "notice" the VDRs when I hit those clubs, but I do occasionally get distracted by the feel of the NDMCs when I hit them. It's a subtle thing, but I'll be switching to VDRs when my NDMCs wear out. A very comfortable TV kind of feel.

I got NDMC mids on my splits, and white VDRs on my 4dx pros. They are both wonderful grips, that being said when it comes time to regrip the nikes I will be looking for the red VDRs. Better price point and I really like the smoother feel. The VDRs have a softer feel to me and dont do as much damage over the course of a range session to my hands. (This is just my feeling) The VDRs are really smooth and have enough tack to not slip. The white actually holds off getting dirty pretty well. I was nervous about that but have been very surprised that they stay white a whole lot better than alot of other white grips. I am curious as how the VDRs will play in the rain or when they get wet, they are supposed to be fine from what I read but just have that feel to me that they might be a bit of a hot mess. I hope that they eventually put out midsize of the white and/or red.

No midsize in the white or red? That stinks, I suppose the blue and black have midsize versions?

I was gonna shoot for the reds...

Actually I believe the black one is the only available one in midsize. They work fine and go on fine if you build some tape upto midsize. I did 5 wraps and its right about there.

The VDR fell more close to the lamkin performance plus with 3gen to me, which I really like.

I'll have to try these out when my TV Cords wear out on my irons. Hopefully they'll be as firm as the cords, but with extra tackiness. Cords are eating up my hands.
[/quote]

Just an FYI they are not as firm as cords.

No they are not but they feel way better and seem to be very tacky for GP grips.

Great post, really, I was searching for this exactly, after using New Decades for the last 2 years, I finally had it, yesterday after a 1.5 hours bunker practice session, and my hands were destroyed, this happened to me before, during long range sessions, I ended up with so much pain that I couldnt hold a wedge for a chip practice.

I just (today) got 2 clubs from a friend, for testing, and both are gripped with VDR's white, which I also noticed, they are the perfect size for me (60 round) + 2 wraps.
Cant wait to try them this week. If they perform, I will change all my grips even if they are new.

Thanks for the info guys

I replaced my grips on my irons and some of my drivers with the VDR. I have a White MC on a Callaway FT-Tour that came with it and noticed how quickly the white portion, non corded area worn out under my right hand. I play without a glove and had MC on all woods and hybrids and DD2's on the irons.

After a few rounds with the VDR's I am sold. Very tacky, with a cushioned feel that transmit feedback well and they are suppose to last longer than the DD2's. As needed I will be replacing the grips on the hybrids and any other back up clubs with these VDR's for certain.
