TM to Vokey

Okay, so another thread here had me thinking..

I'm used to the TM Z TP wedges, and just switched over to try some Vokeys for no real reason than curiosity.

I have always felt like Vokeys were MUCH lighter than my Z TP's, and for that, I seemed to have a problem hitting them just as well.

Looking at the stock specs:

56*-D5
60*-D5


TM Z-TP

56*-D4
60*-D5


Obviously it looks like my TM gap wedge, is lighter than my Vokey, weird, but okay.

My Vokey SW is lighter, and my lob wedge is the same they say.

I have some lead tape that I'm wanting to play around with on my wedges to perhaps get it heavier if I need be on the Vokeys, maybe even make them all D-5 swing weight I think.

How long of a strip of lead tape will give an approximate 1 SW point? Doesn't need to exact, but say.. 2 inches is 1 SW, and I want 2 points, so gob on 2 strip, 1.5in long and it should be close.

Just looking to get some info, and fool around with the feel of these Vokeys before I decide to sell 'em off because I just don't seem to hit that as solid as my worn TM's.. Could be in my head too, but I like the feel and spin on a good shot with the Vokeys, just wish I could feel the clubhead dropping, instead of me pulling and tugging it.

Sometimes it's hard to say how much tape you should add, since all tapes a little bit different. Ideally, you should add a strip and then check the SW scale and add more if it's under. Personally, I just add as much as I need until it feels right. Don't really care too much about SW. If anything, static weight bothers me more.

Thanks for the info. I don't have a SW scale otherwise I wouldn't have asked a general "inch per point" reference.

Like you, I'll probably end up gobbing it on there until it feels right to me, and go from there. I just want to get a general reference for my own knowledge on what SW they might be close to.

I've heard that 1 inch is close to 1 SW in most lead tape. I've got a thin roll of it at the house I bought for my putter to mess with.

Lead tape might not weight the same, so you just cut of one inch and put it on a scale.
2 grams added at COG level, equals to 1 SW point gained, and a drop of 1 cpm in flex strength

buy a swingweight scale. it's so handy and a must buy for golfers that are serious about their game.

Read the bottom sticky. Not sure what grips you have on there but a lighter grip will increae sw too.

You might feel a difference in the weight balance, but you are messing with counterweight, not swing weight, even if the SW scale will tell that you just did.
Messing with counterweighting can be both fun and frustrating, but don't jump on cheap solutions before you have tested to see if that benefit you.
My own definition of Counterweighting, is every change of grip weigh up or down from the standard grip who is 50 grams

Balance Certified make weight inserts to the butt of the club, and like a lighter grip, you can "see" them on the SW scale but they don't change the actual swing weight.
Many players experience better dispersion, when they got added weight inside their hands, so when you go for a winn lite, you take away weight from your hands, and by that you might hurt your game.
Try it, before you just go for it, and check dispersion, cause that might be the place you run into problems with a lighter grip

When you change shaft length, or change head weight, we also make an influence on flex, and that's swing weighting, but balance change without influence of Cpm, is Counterweighting
