"Middle management"??

Brilliant. :russian_roulette:

Sounds like you have never owned the LS.

I've been a Mercedes guy for years now, but had a silver LS a few years ago. GREAT car.

I would have NO problem owning the LS. And I seriously doubt that ANYONE would have a problem owning such a nice car...."middle management" or not.

Hey, I love an exciting car as much as anybody. But "vanilla" and "soulless" are code words for well-made. There are plenty of exciting cars available, and 99% of people don't want/need an exciting car. They understandably want a car that's comfortable and reliable. Modern cars are too heavy, but they're also safer than ever, more reliable, handle better, faster, and more efficient. Not everything has gotten worse with time.

Depends on your definition of great.

Superb build quality, reliability and excellent customer service are all important but we will not be looking back at 99% of Lexi (plural for Lexus?) and calling them great.

If I was going to spend $100k+, I wouldn't get a Lexus (although a free set of Miura's could swing any deal).

Again, my apologies to any Lexus owners!

I'm not a Lexus owner and not a BMW owner... Had no idea what the commercial was saying because I don't speak Japanese...

With all that being said, to the BMW owners, if you are > 5'10" I pray you all own 7 series beemers... If you don't, than you're all hypocrites b/c I swear the 3 and 5 series BMW's are made for women. I went to test drive a 3 series and laughed b/c I thought I was in a go- cart. Same thing with the 5 series. Down right ridiculous. No way a 6 foot tall man could possibly be comfortable driving one of those. So small...

A $100k Toyota... No thanks, I'll take German engineering any day of the week, Miuras or not.
Yeah boy, that German ""engineering is something to behold....just ask any BMW 7 series owner of the past 10 years about how well their car is "engineered". Those things are crap for durability/reliability. IMO quality "engineering" comes in the form of Asian "engineering". You know, the two most reliable vehicles in the history of autos....Honda and Toyota.

That being said, I have quickly become a fan of Ford...quality built without our tax dollars.

Interesting... my buddy drives a new 550 and he's 6'2... it's a rocket too. Course it doesn't beat mine to 60 or top end, but there's no comparison. Also car club friend is 6'4 and he drives a GT3, and comfortably I might add.

I can't help but wonder if you failed to slide the seat back... :cheesy: So, what kind of ole man's car do you drive being you're such a big fella that can't fit comfortably in a 5 series?

If I'm spending $100k, it's not on a 7 series, it's either an M5 or M6. And I've never talked to any of the 15 or so people I know that personally own 7 series or M-series Bimmers that have had one problem out of them. Sorry, I'm not paying that much for any Lexus, especially when I can get the Toyota equivalent for half that or less.

And who ever said I was talking about Bimmers in the first place, as I wasn't. I'd be buying an Audi, as my fiance's family in Germany is in management at the plant in Germany, and the ones that aren't management are in Engineering at the plant. That's the German engineering I was referring to. I'd be buying either an A8 for a family ride or an R8 for a fun, let your hair out and punch it ride. And I've never seen one bad thing said about either. And as for how good they are, well the most expensive car ever sold was restored at that very facility.

Seems like a good pairing to me.

Both companies market themselves as the finest built, most meticulously engineered, and neither one has any sort of charisma, passion, or soul.

Not saying that is a bad thing, just saying they both market elegance over attitude.

I'm 6' 2" and have had a couple of 3 series company cars over the years. You either need to find the button that pushes the seat back or get yourself on a diet!

Just kidding by the way :drinks:

Agreed. Mercedes and BMW build quality has been appalling over the last few years (compared to what it was)

Not sure I would throw all of Asia in the mix with reliability (SsangYong anyone?) but Japan are certainly the world leaders. If you bought a car based on reliability then you'd buy a Honda Accord. Have fun.

German engineering is code for expensive repairs that often have to be performed multiple times. I'm now on my second Lexus and have never experienced a single mechanical failure. My first one went 193,000 miles and ran like a swiss watch when I traded it in for another Lexus. Never changed spark plugs, needed a tune-up, timing belt or anything. Oil changes, 3 sets of tires and 1 set of brake pads. Exciting? Well, not really, but they are tight as a drum mechanically and disgustingly comfortable and reliable. I own a pumped-up weekend car for fun driving and the pair cost less than a new 7-series.

Oh yeah, and I bet those irons are butter!

I used to work as an auto tech for almost 5 years.

Worked on many many BMW's, Mecedes Benz's, Audi's, a few Porsche's

compared to most japanese cars, they are quite a hand full to repair.

Are they designed better? hell if I know, all I know is the parts cost twice as much, they take twice as long to fix, and they require over $30K in specialty tools to fix

I live in the States and in Asia, I prefer Italian or German cars in the States base one two reasons, the cost is over 50% less in the US than in Taiwan and I enjoy driving at higher speed then in Taiwan. However, back in Asia, I only buy lexus, because it is cheaper, the roads are not as well maintained and most of times its stop and go thus put on extra wear and tear on the car, which makes lexus much more comfortable. I enjoy the experience each car provides me, but at the end of the day, the cars get me to point A to point B with comfort, they all have great stereos and leather seats. But I have to say, European cars do tend to have more problems.

back to the irons, I would definitely remove the paint fill on the lexus logo! sorry.gif

the LS is hands down superior to the S-class and the 7 series.
It is the the highest quality luxury car on the road right now.
Just ask someone that owns one next time you see one in a parkinglot or at a stop light.
I guarantee he used to be a BMW or Mercedes owner , and will never look back.
That hybrid is over 100k and that's ridiculous for any car, but the regular LS is a steal compared to the euro competition. And like the other poster said, they're practically bulletproof and have low maintenance costs
