German engineering is code for expensive repairs that often have to be performed multiple times. I'm now on my second Lexus and have never experienced a single mechanical failure. My first one went 193,000 miles and ran like a swiss watch when I traded it in for another Lexus. Never changed spark plugs, needed a tune-up, timing belt or anything. Oil changes, 3 sets of tires and 1 set of brake pads. Exciting? Well, not really, but they are tight as a drum mechanically and disgustingly comfortable and reliable. I own a pumped-up weekend car for fun driving and the pair cost less than a new 7-series.

Oh yeah, and I bet those irons are butter!
Exactly. Lexus makes a great car period.

It may never LOOK as good as some other company's car, and it will never be a collector car, but if you want the description above in a luxurious, quiet ride....it is hard to beat a Lexus.

I would have NO problem owning another. But I do prefer the looks of the MB s-class.

the LS is hands down superior to the S-class and the 7 series.
It is the the highest quality luxury car on the road right now.
Just ask someone that owns one next time you see one in a parkinglot or at a stop light.
I guarantee he used to be a BMW or Mercedes owner , and will never look back.
That hybrid is over 100k and that's ridiculous for any car, but the regular LS is a steal compared to the euro competition. And like the other poster said, they're practically bulletproof and have low maintenance costs
I wouldn't call it "superior" to the s-class. I WOULD call it superior to the 7-series....but I have never been a BMW fan, as I prefer a quiet, smooth, luxury-car ride and BMWs are more of a "driver's" car where you can feel the road a bit more IMO. Nothing wrong with that if that is what you are looking for. I pushed around the M3 for a summer years ago (a buddy's car), and it was a blast to drive.

I would also say that for a first-class luxury car, the LS offers the best QPR. The base LS is QUITE a bit less than the s-class, and rides just as nice. How those two cars compare in the "looks" department is a completely different story ;) .....and a big reason that the s-class asks for, and gets the higher price.

You guys must be the same guys that drive their balls 400 yards....into the wind....and hit their 8 irons 250..... Shake your d***s boys, the pissing contest is over.....

What a silly post.

Sounds to me like a bunch of guys that love cars and golf clubs talking about both.

And I only hit my driver 300. :sorry::lol:

No need to be a hater. Maybe you could work on it. ;)

saying a 100k lexus is a "piece of junk" = being a hater
saying any 100k car is a "piece of junk"= being a hater

you might not want to drive it (i'd take a 7 series and an s550 over the lexus LS anyday) doesnt mean there is anything wrong with it. at that point it just comes down to peoples personal choice.

also, saying mercedes or bmw or lexus make crap cars and turning around and telling us that ford or gm is where its at = being a hater

No doubt....COMPLETELY different type of car.

That m3 I enjoyed was a stick and a rocket that cornered like it was on rails. Surprisingly close to a 911 handling-wise. Those cars are nothing like a Lexus or MB ride.....and they aren't supposed to be.

"Middle management"??

Brilliant. :russian_roulette:

Sounds like you have never owned the LS.

I've been a Mercedes guy for years now, but had a silver LS a few years ago. GREAT car.

I would have NO problem owning the LS. And I seriously doubt that ANYONE would have a problem owning such a nice car...."middle management" or not.

Concur.

After brief ownership of a 1999 E320 which was hands down the most troublesome, poorly constructed hunk of junk this side of a vintage Lada, I went back to driving my old W123 (!!) for a couple of years and am now driving an Acura RL. I never want to experience anything like that W210 ever again. It was an embarrassment to MB.

The W212 and W221 have me very tempted to go back to MB as they seem to be again very well constructed, but I'm at the "show me" stage now and need consistent proof of build quality before I darken the door of my local MB dealer again.

$350,000 for a Lexus that has road feel of an M3, that is slower around the Nurburgring than a Corvette ZR-1, and honestly looks like a Scion with a fancy wing and body kit...

No thanks...Nissan GT-R and $265,000 in my pocket? Okay maybe...but truthfully I'll keep my old paid for German car for the twisties and my old paid for American car for the straight lines.

I could sell both and not even have enough down payment to justify a GT-R let alone the LFA...I'm still trying to figure out where Lexus thinks that price point is justified...

My apologies to anyone in middle management currently driving a Lexus. Can't argue with the build quality but they are completely soulless.

Damn, ouch....I'm in middle management and drive a Toyota Camry....not even a flipping Lexus.

Do I score points for the fact I could lease a Bentley Continental GT or a Maserati Quattroporte for what I pay in daycare costs for my kids each month?

I will not start the typical rant that a detroiter that works for a big 3 automaker would normally give...but next time any of you are test driving cars...just add the new line of Lincolns (guess where I work) into your decision set....

I am not saying buy one if you don't like it, but just check them out. You might be surprised of the value (quality per dollar).
The new Cadillacs are also pretty nice as well....

since when do sports cars make money?

Toyota/Lexus makes way more money selling Camry's and Corolla's then they do on the LF-A & IS-F combined

the LF-A is a pride thing for Toyota and Japan. To my knowledge it is the first production car out of japan to use a full carbon fiber body, and the first Japanese super car. It was not meant to be a money maker for Toyota.

The GT-R on the other hand is a great car, but its not a super car and it does make Nissan loads of money. Even though its just a G35 with twin turbo's and a high tech 4 wheel drive system. It still uses the same weak front frame rails as the G35, the same plastic radiator support, and the same suspension geometry.

The GT-R is an awesome car for what it is, but comparing the GT-R to an LF-A, is like comparing an Audi S4 to a Ferrari 599 GTO.

you can talk all day long about how your M3 is just as fast in the turns, and how your corvette is just as fast in a strait line.
But in my opinion, super cars are on a totally different level.

Ok, so it's okay that a $350,000 - 400,000 car is slower around the world's ultimate test track than a car 1/3 the price, or better yet can't pull out of a corner as quickly as a car 1/8 the price, because the carbon fiber body and ultra high tech parts and super sweet sounding engine--with no torque at all--makes it a super car. I'm still confused and am kinda beginning to think maybe Snake Eyes forged irons really may be as good as Miuras based on this marketing logic...

My head hurts now...

Sorry mate, didn't mean to offend anyone (and yes you do get the points :friends: )

After reading through some of the responses, it's interesting that if you change Lexus, Mercedes and BMW for Callaway, Taylor Made and Titleist (not necessarily in that order), this thread has a lot of similarities to many on GolfWRX!

Let's keep it sensible.

Ya know that's one thing I never could wrap my brain around....one of VW's supercar "partners" puts their engines behind the rear axle, another puts their engines in front of the front axle....and the only one to get it right costs over $1,000,000....

Well, I guess there's the R8--best bang for the buck "supercar" I've ever lay witness to. (cool)

..and she is well aware of golfwrx and of my feelings towards her inability to correctly operate an automobile, but she's also quick to remind me we met by her beating me in an IDPA competition, and she's the half of the comedy show we call a marriage that actually gets free factory gear for her favorite hobby, so I know my role and get to sleep in the big bed.... :black eye:

A $100k Toyota... No thanks, I'll take German engineering any day of the week, Miuras or not.
Yeah boy, that German ""engineering is something to behold....just ask any BMW 7 series owner of the past 10 years about how well their car is "engineered". Those things are crap for durability/reliability. IMO quality "engineering" comes in the form of Asian "engineering". You know, the two most reliable vehicles in the history of autos....Honda and Toyota.

That being said, I have quickly become a fan of Ford...quality built without our tax dollars.
If I'm spending $100k, it's not on a 7 series, it's either an M5 or M6. And I've never talked to any of the 15 or so people I know that personally own 7 series or M-series Bimmers that have had one problem out of them. Sorry, I'm not paying that much for any Lexus, especially when I can get the Toyota equivalent for half that or less.

And who ever said I was talking about Bimmers in the first place, as I wasn't. I'd be buying an Audi, as my fiance's family in Germany is in management at the plant in Germany, and the ones that aren't management are in Engineering at the plant. That's the German engineering I was referring to. I'd be buying either an A8 for a family ride or an R8 for a fun, let your hair out and punch it ride. And I've never seen one bad thing said about either. And as for how good they are, well the most expensive car ever sold was restored at that very facility.
LOL, I'm not sure that I would put the Audi/VW engineering above any other German engineered car when it comes to reliability. Don't get me wrong, the R8 is one sweet ride for sure but if we're talking about quality cars (in terms of reliability) Audi/VW definitely wouldn't be at the top of the list.

Speaking of Audi though, would you consider the new Q5 a chick car? I've actually thought about looking into one due to all the rave reviews they've gotten.

The LS is better than a S Class or 7 Series??? Laughable.

We went from an Escalade to a Lexus GX470 for the wife. What a POS. Probably the worst SUV we have ever owned.
The engineering is terrible. Anybody who owns a newer lexus cannot say they enjoy the radio / climate control or it's a lie.
The HUGE side hinged rear door? Useless rear seats that take up so much room i can't fit my clubs....

The GX 470 is a POS. So is my father in laws LS coming from a CTS-V.

The days of the Japanese / European cars so much better than the American cars is over................

p.s. Pepperturbo has a Porsche - 2 of them. p.p.s - My ZR1 Will blow the doors off Peppers Porsche!

haha all for fun but really turbo my car is much better than yours. Too bad it was a short team lease and the dream is over now!!!

p.p.p.s. - My Lexus is a Piece of crap.
