KLM Open observations

Just returned from 2 days of rain, and lucky for me i don't have to do anything anymore there (i could if i want to though tongue.gif)


But it was a great experience (except the weather) and made some nice observations.

First of all, the master clubmaker of Mizuno is a great guy, i was in the Mizuno tour van on thursday more than half a hour and he explained me everything. Eventually when he knew i was kinda an equipment junkie, he showed me i think all the drawers and sort of things. So i've seen all the clubs, shafts, grips, headwear etc.

During my visit he was building 4 sets of irons, and he was quick, just like the movie which you can see on the Mizuno site (is the same guy, who they show in the movie how it works in the van). As said we talked a lot about equipment and some interesting points:
-MP-32 is at the moment the most popular Mizuno iron
-Project x shaft is huge in demand!!
-Diamana is more and more used
-He didn't knew about the Ozik!!!
-GP decade multicompound is the most popular grip
-Mizuno clubs aren't made in Japan, but in Taiwan or China. (he didn't want to admit it, but i saw the boxes and it said "made in China" or "Made in Taiwan". So after awhile he said almost all clusb are made outside Japan, even the tour heads!!
-Also he didn't want to admit first, that there was a difference in retail and tour clubs, but after i made a remark that the set of MX-23 he was making didn't look the same as the one you could buy in the shop. He had to admit, that sometimes (not always) there a some differences in grinds, but also grooves! (he showed me then 2 different mp-32 heads, which i couldn't see the difference in grooves, but it was he said).
-2 iron is absolete, people use Fli-Hi (or other) instead. Especially this course (links course).
-mp-67 is like most people say on this board, although they didn't had it in the van. Like the mp-32, but smaller and less "cut-muscle". But he was soooo suprised that i new about it, i was the first person outside Mizuno which has spoken about it he said tongue.gif


Other observations made was:
-Almost all Ping players are using the Rapture driver (and some the fw too)
-Yes! putters is the nr.1 putter and Odessey nr.2
-The the most interesting one is, the most seen driving iron i saw this week, was the Callaway x-tour driving iron. I think i've seen it in at least 7 bags or so. And most of them weren't even sponsored by Callaway. I've spoken with Jaidee's caddy about it, and he said it was a prototype (which i new, but he was surprised that i new it wasn't a normal club)
-I've seen a lot of diamana's and V2 shafts. Also some prolaunch and NV's, but much less than last year. Almost no fuji's (except the reax shaft)


Oh, also Montgomery is kinda scary when he sitting next too you on the stairs when he a bit grumpy!! In was the 2nd rain (thunderstorms) delay and i was in the clubhouse sitting on the stairs to rest when he came and sit. eventually i got up and more players went on sitting on the stairs, waiting for the delay.

Dude, I read that and I love the info you gave us about Mizuno. One of the best reads in a long time. I might have to get another set of MP32s. I sold mine for 510 bucks on ebay last month. :-(

I also made some nice pictures!! sadly i forgot the cable of my camera, so have to wait till sunday.

 

Sadly due to all the rain, a lot of players had their bags closed, otherwise i would have made much more!!! Even pictures of inside the Mizuno tour van!!!! And the grumpy Monty close-up on the stairs!!

Wow Ultimate. Way to waylay sarcasm into a complete overreaction. It should be clear to a competent reader that my post was sarcastic. Not to mention the fact that I wasn't even in Brookline (or Boston) at the time. If I were you, I would worry more about harnassing your inappropriate knee-jerk reactions and shameful poor reading skills than my sentiments toward Monty on a MESSAGE BOARD. Nice.

About Monty his Yes! putter. What i heard is that he bought it from the proshop and actually paid for it!! (if i remembered correctly it was 159 euro or so for a Yes! putter)
