It is 42* outside and your golfing?

For many of us in the North, golf is not nearly long enough. It seems that the season starts later each year and ends sooner. Typically, golf begins in NE Ohio in April and ends in late October. Many people play in leagues that start the first week of April, which for me was yesterday. The weather was a cool 42* and windy. For most sane people, the temperature is way too cold to even think about playing. For me, it was not an option.

 

Lucky for me I have some incredible apparel from NIKE that not only helps me stay comfortable warm, but also looks great. For yesterdays round, I started with a dri-fit t shirt, then layered that with a NIKE base layer mock and then a NIKE Sphere Pro vest. I also wore a great Nike skull cap that is reversible. (I picked up a few of these!!)

 

 

 

 

 

The base layer mock (shown above) is part compression, part mesh shirt that really does a nice job of keeping you warm but also moves with you. The details that Nike has on this shirt are incredible.

 

 

 

 

NIKE's Sphere Pro vest does a number of things really good. First, it blocks the wind and rain, it also keeps your warm by trapping in the heat. They also designed it to be a tad bit longer so the rain (or snow) will roll off your back on to the ground. The have also added cinches on both sides and zip pockets. If you have ever worn anything with the Sphere technology, you know how great this material is.

In central indiana 42 is definitely considered golf weather even though we peen lucky recently with our weather (knock on wood). If its 42 I am wearing jeans, golf pants, or rain pants. Usually the latter two unless I feel like switching it up. Then on top its under armor, short sleeve golf polo, and then pullover/jacket on top.

You have the right idea and blocking the wind is essential if its really windy. That is the only downside to under armor and nikes compression gear.

I was out the other day in SW MI. I normally wear a wife beater/tank, long sleeve compression shirt and then a polo. Had no problem staying warm while walking. Wind wasn't too bad and once I got towards the back of the course, the wind not a factor. If I had taken a cart, I think I might have needed some sort of pullover and possibly my TM skull cap.

I work at a course, so there is not such thing as "too cold" if the pros are there I am there. There have been morning when I got to the course at like 6:30-7:00 am and it was about 28 degrees with a steady 10 mph wind. Normally, since I am in NH I will have a light jacket on in this but because I am a golf course my attire must be golf appropriate. I feel like I am about to freeze to death. Fortunatly, nobody goes out and plays until the frost warning gets lifted around 10 and by that time the wind has calmed and it gets to a balmy 40-42 degrees. There are die hards who would be out there every day until the snow is too deep to play in. I like to consider myself one of those guys since I love to play but if I play one hole and can't feel my hands enough to grip the club it is too cold.

I always think you can learn a lot about someone on a golf course. I know exactly the members who show up and play in the freezing whether and some guys won't come out and play if there are clouds out.... jeez

do yourself a favor a get a mizuno windlite sweater. the thing is so warm, and blocks the wind.

I wear a T-shirt with a Polo. Over that I wear a sweater vest or a 1/2 zip mock. Finally if it is windy, I put on a lightweight windbreaker. I used to layer more but I walk and usually get too hot.

It was 36* here in Wisconsin when I played on Saturday morning. My Mizuno Windlite sweater and Mizuno beanie kept me plenty warm (I figure if the OP can sound like a paid spokesman, why cant I). You gotta play when you get the chance and around here sometimes that means playing when the temps are a little chilly.
