Mid Mallet or Rear Flanged Blade?

Correct name for this type of putter

It is very clear that the Wilson 8882 style putter is a blade putter. The Odyssey #8 and Rife Bimini are other examples of true blades. There is also agreement when it comes to the half shaft semi mallet like the Odyssey #5, Cameron Fastback, or TM Fontana.

What is unclear is the naming of the Heel-Shafted Mid Mallet / Rear Flanged Blade. I have included some examples of both with descriptions taken from the OEMs sites, new and old. I did not use any descriptions from online retailers as it may be simply their opinion.

Clearly the majority of OEMs consider these putters as mallets.
Most describe this type putter as a mallet; Cameron, TaylorMade, Cleveland/Never Comp, Bettinardi, Rife, and Wilson. Some use the terms ‘semi’ or ‘heel-shafted’ but mallet none the less.

Three; Nike, Ping, and TE, choose not to specify (at least not that I can find). Adams can't decide so they used both names.

Odyssey and Yes! were the only OEMs to use blade, and now that Adams owns Yes! that could change.

I have always referred to these types of putters as mid mallets. It doesn't mean that I'm right, but that's what I've been told and such

Personally (Since I use the Cleveland) I would consider it a blade/ semi-mallet. How can this be in the same size category as a TM Corza, 2 ball etc. To me its probably similar to say the face balanced Odyssey Rossie, which is only really a semi-mallet at best.

Does anyone know if the ping piper h comes left handed? I can't find anything after searching.

Well, the Corza would be just "Mallet" as opposed to Mid-Mallet' (Rossie, Monte Carlo) or again the 'Heel-Shafted Mid or Semi Mallet' (Maranello). The Two Ball is another category called 'High MOI Mallets.'

I just picked up a ping piper half mallett scottsdale and love it

I like mallet putters a bit better. Only because it's easier for me to be more accurate, because you know exactly if it's lying flat.

I think you might have missed the point of the OP. It isn't which you like better, but what the name should be for this type of putter. (mid mallet and rear flanged blade are the SAME putter),

I think many want to SAY they are using a blade, but the size of the putter is more appropriately a Mid Mallet. I really is only Callaway/Odyssey that want to title it blade. I will look for it, but I know I saw something where NIKE labeled theirs a mallet.

The Piper H is a heel shafted mid mallet. The Piper scottsdale half mallet isn't in this conversation about CLUB NAMING.

Same with the 8802 style, which is different than an IMG style. The 8802/Designed by Arnold Palmer was the original style.

No need to call something a plumber's neck heel-toe cavity blade. It's just an Anser style.

They are a flanged blade. Nothing mallet about them.

I use a BB16, refer to it as a heel-shafted mallet

That's a tough one, given the examples in the pics and the fact that the head is closer or the same in size as half-shaft mid mallets as opposed to the 8802 style.

I suppose to your point then, the inventors of the TPA, "Wilson Golf", refer to the TPA as a mallet. TPA XVIII is a little much to spit out.
