Dplane does it work for you

Whats your experience

I`ve been reading a lot about Dplane on paper so I wondered what experiences we all have had with it...I`ll tell you mine.... I went to the range today to see what I can do with a limited idea of the new flight laws and Dplane....

Let me preface this by saying the way I play...All approach shots with irons I concentrate on 8 feet either side of the pin so it`s a 8 foot circle.. I set up square all the time and the only difference between a straight shot and a fade or draw is I adjust the tightness of my right arm to my body and adjust the bend in my right arm nothing else I hate to even think of doing that...All I really think is knock the pin down...or just think draw fade or straight...everything just happens.....

I warmed up and started trying to implement a cursory Dplane rule and spent time paying attention to the face...It was clear after a period hitting approach shots it had little significance..some may say I unknowing have been doing Dplane all the time or I didn`t give it enough time or I need someone to look at what I was doing to see...these may be true ...I don`t know but...I would do nothing different from what I`ve been doing in the past....although I may experiment with it in the future...

Now I started hitting some purposeful hooks and slices [ in the 20/25 yard area more or less ] Ive never been proficient with these.shots and hate doing these and I rarely play with them unless there is just no other alternative.... they are high risk shots to me... At first I seemed to far out of alignment but I have to say that these shots showed more promise...More attention to the face tended to make the launch direction a bit more intuitive that I experienced before...Now I didn`t try any push/pull hooks and slices...for the first time doing it...but again this new way of looking at it does start giving me some interest in pursuing it farther...This isn`t meant to be scientific at all but just one persons experience hands on with some of the Dplane..What your experience...Jim

D-plane explains my ball flight, the cause for my miss left or right and how to proceed when hitting a shaped shot. I could not imagine playing golf without knowing about it.

To hit a bigger draw I move the ball back in my stance. To hit the ball straighter I move the ball up in my stance. To hit a fade, ball position up and clubface a little open. ETC ETC ETC. To hit around an object same presets, but make sure clubface is aimed so that it starts the ball far enough away to get around.

More knowledge means less guesswork. Makes it easier to learn how to hit a shot and maintain that shot.

Understanding the D plane is very useful over-all. But it doesn't turn my golf world upside down.

If I had the ability to accurately sense or direct path and face angle, then D plane understanding (vs. the old rules) WOULD turn my golf world upside down.

An understanding of the D plane has helped my consistency in working the ball and helped me aim knockdown shots better.
I always wondered why my knockdown shots started off well right of my target. D plane led me to understand that my plane was shifted way right when the ball is positioned well back in my stance.

Despite all the mainstream books I read, and instructions from coaches, never could hit draw and fade, tend to overcook it, and gave up trying. Until Dr J cleared it up for me. Now hitting fades and draws are fun. Love to bend it round trees when I get into trouble.

Used to hit baby hooks with my short iron shots no matter how straight I lined it up and how square my club face was. Understanding Dr. J meant I could choose to open the club face for a baby draw, or open the stance for a straight shot. Very very cool.

Even use it for putting.

Come to think of it, every shot basically.

I like D-plane pretty much for ball flight. I'm kinda on the fence about this gravity thing, though. People act like it's the be all end all. What's wrong with playing a bump and run once in a while?

For me it works perfectly. Say I want to hit a cut starting at left green. I'll aim the face at left green, then open my stance to that target then swing along my feet line.

Between running around for my guys and grooving new swing and shortgame I have had very little course time. Aka I'd be getting smoked. That's going to change real soon though so might find something towards the end of summer. Just a matter of when.
