Gullane and North Berwick area help

Hi All

Need help from Scottish WRXers :)

I have my dream trip to scotland all planned except for one night:

I need to stay one night after my 2 rounds at Gullane - I play the day after at North Berwick and take off immediately for the St Andrews area.

My questions is: Do I need to book something now or are there enough 'hotel/motels/BB's' in the area for one night?

If you are playing Gullane and North Berwick, did you attempt to play Muirfield on you "dream trip"? If not, I'd sure make the effort.

If your budget permits, and especially you have a wife or girl friend with you and want somewhere special, I would consider staying and/or eating at Greywalls (adjacent to Muirfield (HCEG). B&B or motel it definitely is not. If this this is a guys' trip or you are looking for just a cheap place to stay for one night, look elsewhere. Staying there coould also help you get on Muirfield. We stayed in the North Berwick Golf Lodge which is a six bedroom house designed to sleep eight guys. Not sure if your party is that large but the accomodations and service are fantastic. We did however, go to the Nether Abbey Hotel for dinner twice. If the rooms are anything like the food then I would stay there in a heartbeat and when I go back with a smaller party this is where I'm staying. Glad to see that you are playing North Berwick, the Gullane courses are great but North Berwick is spectacular. Have a great trip, posts like this make me want to go back even more. PM me if you want some info about St Andrews area there are alot of great pubs and such there as well.

Good info. Tommy & Emma of the Golf Lodge really look after their guests & know everyone/everything in the area

You haven't said when you'll be staying. That'll make a difference, though if it's anytime between now & October, most places will be booked up.

BTW, the only chance you'll have of getting onto Muirfield is as a member's guest, actually, no, as if you did stay at Greywalls, there are a few tee times offered on Mondays & Fridays. Visitors' days, Tues/Thurs are fully booked until the end of October

Depending on your budget, you've got a range of accomm, from small B&B's, the Marine Hotel in N. Berwick, not the best 4 star anywhere but good enough for Player, Nicklaus & Watson in years gone by

Archerfield has fantastic lodges, but pretty expensive

The Golf Inn In Gullane has some rooms, as do the Castle & the Open Arms in Dirleton

In N.Berwick there's also the County Hotel & the Dalrymple Arms in the budget category

If you're coming anytime soon, all courses in the area are on amazing condition. As good as I've seen them at this time of year.

Headed there myself in June. We are staying at the Marine McDonald in North Berwick while we play at N. Berrick, Gullane, Dunbar and Muirfield.

Hi All,
Thanks for all the responses, but it seems like I forgot to give you guys some info:
I'll be travelling alone - the trip is all of July, and I'll be in the Gullane/NB area @July 20th. For those who have answered before - I know it's peak season, even for one night, do I book or take my chances. I also don't want to pay the $$$ for a 5 star place. A decent place without getting mugged is all I want - it's only one night.
I tried Muirfield, but as a single I was told when I started planning this trip you can't book-call us the week before and see if anything comes up. And even if I was a pair/4some, they were already book since sept 2010 (as they only take visitors on tu and thurs)!!!!!!!!!!! But I will try when I get there

I reckon Greywalls (In Muirfield's grounds) for £105 is your best bet ( a snip for that time of the year)

Followed by 12 Quality Street in North Berwick for £65
