Quick question on Iron launch angles

Just a quick question.

 

Is it safe to assume that If I am properly compressing the golf ball (ala tourstriker), hands ahead of shaft, forward lean, my launch angle with my irons will come down a bit? all other things being equal.

 

Previously, had an OTT swing and possibly a little flippy at impact.

The more ahead of the ball the hands are at impact, the lower the ball will launch. It will however create more backspin, which will contribute to the ball climbing. What peak height you'd get with those two situations I don't know.

Why would it necessarily have more backspin?

Because you hit more down on the ball. Backspin is created because the angle the clubhead is moving at is not equal to the angle of the clubface at impact.

If you hit a drive with a very low lofted club swinging 4º up and achieving 4º dynamic loft, the ball would have very little to no backspin. The creater difference in angle between the two, the more spin you create. Same thing for sidespin (or ball spin, it can only spin in one direction). If you swing 5º left and the clubface is 0º, you will create more spin than if you swung 5º left and the clubface was aimed 3º left.

More forward lean means more down and more spin.

So you are assuming that the increase in downward angle is greater than the decrease in loft because of the forward lean, correct?

I've never researched the topic, so I can't say for sure, but all the evidence points to more forward lean creating more spin. I haven't see the data behind the physics, so I can't say if the angle relationship between the CP and FA change.

My guess is, as you compress the ball with forward shaft lean, the ball rolls up the face of the club coming into contact with more grooves thus creating more spin.
