99 out of a 100? I don't think so. There are many great golfers on this site with high swing speeds. Alot of them struggle with a hook but not 99 out of 100. That is an inaccurate statement.

I think it is just the evolution of better players swing. Most people start out slicing, figure out how to fix that but in the process we end up overcorrecting. I know that is my story and know I'm trying to find ways to minamize my inside approach. Who knows I may end up playing a fade.

This is exactly what I have done. Now I play a semi-uncontrollable hook with all clubs. Trying to get back to a fade.

99 out of 100 guys you see aren't members here, sure people on here are a little out there at times with how far they hit the ball, but on average the level of player on this board is much better than average at the game. The better you get, your miss tends to be more of a hook than anything, especially if you like to draw the ball. As for me, right now my miss is a block, but it used to be a rather vicious hook.

Probably because there is nothing but hacks on this website now. Okay, hack is a little strong but there are definitely more 5-10 handicappers. It used to be just people who could golf their ball. The people on here back in the day could move it left to right or right to left on command.

There's nothing wrong with it, but the secret is out of the bag so to speak. Just because your miss is a hook doesn't make you a good player. Most of the good players I know play a controlled fade.

I think your stats are a bit over stated, but I understand what you mean. Here is my theory...

Most golfers in the real world aren't as big of swing nerds. People who are not swing nerds generally play the shot they can control the easiest from trial and error on the range and course...which is generally a fade.

Swing nerds have learned that a perfect swing comes from the inside, because over the top is evil and the perfect shot is a draw. All of this leads to a swing path that is too far from the inside and that eventually leads to rampant snap hooks.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

lol...

Just because somebody on an internet site asks a question doesnt mean they have a "problem" with flight of a ball.

And a golfwrx single digit is much different than a real life single digit. You can take that however you want :friends:

It is surprising to see lots of single digit swing video's needing help on golfwrx ...just do not resemble their handicap not even close. I always wonder... .May be vanity caps...... or the wrxer are so busy changing clubs that they don't have time for swing.

I think a big part of it is the hands and controlling misses (whether subconsciously or consciously). For me I started off slicing the ball as a new player, I've worked hard to get that slice out and hit the ball straight, but now I find my miss is a hook. If I have a bad swing, or one that doesn't feel balanced even if my timing is just a little late, my history of misses is right, and I tend to speed up my hands to save it from going right, hence hook.

Maybe thats just me, but I can only imagine it apply's to a few other golfers out there.

I'm another one who started with a slice, but as I became a student of the game I learned how to improve my swing. I was doing the same thing most slicers do, sucking the club back to the inside and coming over the top. For a while I had a great controlled fade with my driver, but the shorter the club the worse my contact was. Now that I don't do that anymore, when I make a bad swing it's almost always a hook.

Because they are all 130mph swingspeed blade-playing "playas" who work the ball at 28 hcp and can beat former World Number 1s, LPGA players whilst knowing more than Butch Harmon, Hank Haney and David Leadbetter put together.

Cue speech on.... Golf WRX isn't your typical board, many accomplished players on here.... repeat to fade....

Bro...Ive felt that way for a very very long time. Id give advice to people based on what I learned and then get smashed "your sig says 12 HC...I play to a 2" from somebody with a disgusting swing lmfao. Then I got under 10. I felt like I shouldve been there a long time ago

Exactly. Implying that better players hook the ball and lower caps slice or fade is just silly.
Stronger players hook the ball, mainly because they try to kill it and get out of sync...

The better player can control a fade and a draw.

That is going a little far. Although I do agree that most golfers who consider themselves good should be able to shape shots and have almost complete control over the ball. I am an 8 handicap but it is mostly because of my putter. I hit 60-65% of my greens and 75% of fairways. But my putts per round is about 34, that needs to come down in order for my game to come down as well. I personally love to shape the ball whichever way the hole looks to me, if the fairway looks to be going right I try and hit my little fade and if it is a dog leg left I can hit that big hook and take 20 yards off my approach. Ball striking wise I could be confused for like a 1 or 2 handicap when I am on my game but my short game is below average and my putting is awful. I will say that my miss with my irons are a little push and my driver is a hook but it isn't crippling. I can still play with either of these misses when I do hit a bad shot.]

But I too am someone who started off the game slicing due to years and years of playing baseball I never really knew how to release the club head and then I started to hook the ball. I like the look of a fade so much more but I try and draw my driver to get more rollout because I don't carry the ball much longer than like 240.

I guess that is it. I despise a slice and built my swing for a hook to be a miss and a draw to be my regular shot. I hook one in the water and smile as it was not a slice. I have been on video and they tell me I come too far under plane, but at the moment I have not intention of changing it as I love know that I will only miss one way.

Go Badgers...eh?

Sometimes instruction is to blame. Some tips suggest things that are not supported by grip positions. Many players have strong grip positions and can lose it left if off balance or out of sequence.

I think the OP was making an observation about the GolfWRX members either being a very abnormal sampling of non-professional golfers or that this board tends to lead to an exaggeration of playing ability. Either way, doesn't really matter and it's also not necessarily limited to this forum.

My regular golfing partner and I have a few jokes about it...

Me: You know how to hit your driver 30 yards farther?
Him: How?
Me: Post about it on the internet.

A big part of golf forum talk is BS....It`s true... lies get progressively bigger as time goes on....one day you`re a 12 next day you`re a 8 then sooner than later your a low single.... one day it`s 260 then 285 then 315....

About 12 years ago I belonged to a forum that had a golf outing ....I went and couldn`t believe how many players were FOS --T about how they said they played on the forum...Jim
