That's my fear with the 800. Distance control. I hit a 53* wedge 150 or so now, so I'm quite long. I'm afraid to get such long irons and have no control. I'm going to hit both ASAP, just asking around so I know what to expect.

You hit what's essentially a gap wedge a 150 yards, holy crap.

I play to 5hcp and was 14hcp last November when I got fitted with 800.

When I was fitted I tried Pro and 800 side by side and I have to tell you that 800 was more consistant with the result.

800 rocks and feels as good as forged if it is good strike

I have 800 pros and distance control is not an issue unless I mishit hit haha! I've heard a lot of people saying the 800 heads/faces are hot and not very consistent. Lots of people airmailing greens unexpectedly!

The pros probably feel a little better and are a little easier on the eye. The choice for me was simple.

I hit my 53* Nike forged rusted wedge on the green of a 152 yard par 3 last Tuesday. My grandpa was hitting an 8 iron. I don't feel like disbelief is necessary here as it isn't helping anything.

I'm really concerned about buying new irons and I don't want to get 800s if I'm going to fly every green.

I DID do it again, and went with the PROS in the 7-GW. I am still keeping the 5 and 6 irons of the non pros. The distance control was the biggest problem for me with these. I was hitting my 8 iron 170, while my old set the 8 iron is my 150-155 club. Totally screwed up my yardages, but the real difference is that when you nut a JPX800, goodbye, see you over the green 20 yards. The Pros don't have as much spring effect to me, so I'm not airmailing greens as often.

However, if you want the longest iron out there, the JPX 800 non pro has to be in the running.

This is good to hear. My other issue is that on most online stores you can only get them with one kind of shaft.

my current irons are ping eye 2s, so I'd imagine the loft differences and everything will change my distances dramatically.

hmmm...didnt really think of making a combo bag....

kinda holding back on this idea only because the clubs where you switch (for you 6-7i) isnt there an even bigger yardage gap?

In the 800's the high cor face is only on the 4-7 irons, the other irons are normal. Lofts are very strong, the 7 iron is the same as my R7 TP 6 iron. I just got a set of 800's, will hit them as soon as possible. Air mailing greens would be a function of hitting the wrong club. My concern is that mishits may come up way short now.

I'm not BSing, I'm being honest in order to get accurate information before dropping $800 on clubs.

How big is the offset difference? Sorry to ask so many questions, all the stores are 30 miles away.
[/quote]
I'm not being a jerk, but what were the playing conditions when you hit that club that far? We have a par three that plays downhill and it's by the water. Most times it's a club to club and 1/2 less than ydg on card. Good luck, depending on your handicap if you carry one, the 800 pro is what I would look at.

You can try Mizuno in GA and they should put on shaft you want.

Carl (Bill Murray), is that you? "He's about 455 yards away, he's gonna hit about a 2 iron I think ..."

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself!

check out golf-seller on ebay. i got a set of 800 pros from him, custom specs with kbs tours for a little over $500. they were sold as used but were drop-shipped directly from mizuno in less than a week with every club wrapped in plastic. took to my pro and every iron matched specs exactly. awesome experience and saved myself almost $400.

I just bought a set of the 800 pro's from golf-seller on eBay two days ago. Great price for fully customized set. He checks the specs himself after he gets the set back from Mizuno. The pro's run for $899 plus tax here. After shipping I saved around 350.
