Saying Goodbye to my Trues

I was one of the first people to buy a pair of true's last September/October. To be fair, they are very comfortable and as someone who believes that shoes with thick soles are not good for us (I like Vibram five fingers and any other shoe with a minimal sole) they are a great alternative. Unfortunately they suck for my golf game. I haven't played much since I got the shoes but I realized I could never quite get used to them.

I tend to wobble around in them on the course. I have never lost my balance because of the shoes, but I have lost stability.

After reading a post from my golf pro this week about using ground forces I decided to try my Adidas Tour 360's out again. Although I'd prefer them to be a little lower to the ground, just because of the stiffer leather I was able to plant my feet in the ground more effectively and use the ground as opposed to wobbling around.

I'll keep looking for the right shoe, but am sad to leave the trues behind because of their weight and comfort. Unfortunately they just don't work for me.

Interesting...that's the first time I have heard this - and frankly I expected to hear it more. I have a pair coming in the mail that I bought from the BST. They were priced right to experiment for me. I can't see how they will be better than my Tour 360s, my DryJoys or my TWs/Bandons - but I am very interested. The comfort is nice - but I need the stability and the connection to the grass.

This is the one reason I've not made the jump. I need to feel anchored to the ground. Sometimes I get "happy feet". Anything that doesn't help me grip, probably isn't good for me and my game. I may try the Ashworth's coming out in June, but I doubt it.

I have had the opposite effect. I tend to get to much on my toes and the trues keep me more balanced. They are by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. As of now I will not wear anything else.

Honestly it's strange because they fit a little tighter than I normally like, however because of the way the shoe fits I never feel like I can really dig into the ground and use those ground forces. Major bummer because the quality is fantastic and in general they are the best shoes to walk in.

I have to agree with bigblue here. I noticed I stayed much more balanced with my trues. Althought they will get a real test this weekend walking probably 27-36 holes on a course that had snow on it just 3 weeks ago.

I feel very connected to the ground and have great balance. My Trues are the best shoes I've ever worn. My only gripe is that the white/white gets very dirty but they are so good I'll get another pair.

I love their look and they are comfortable x2. Just not stable enough for me. I guess I have finally learned I have to have a solid, stable sole.

Interesting to see this post - I love the comfort of the Trues and wore them exclusively early in the season. My scores were higher than average but I chalked it up to preseason rust. Then I wore a pair of Nikes that I've had for two years and had my best round of the year. Out of curiosity, I followed up my next two rounds in a pair of Eccos and continued the positive trend. I'll admit this is far from scientific but I'm afraid to go back to the Trues and mess with a nice scoring streak!

I didn't wanna post anything negative about them really because they are very comfortable shoes but I sold mine on the BST for similar reasons. They look great from the side online but in person and on your foot they just look goofy from the top. But I mainly sold them because I just couldn't really get comfortable from every lie. I found myself wondering if the shoes would work, and in most situations they did OK but its just another thing I didn't want to worry about.

Shoes are just really different from player to player, there's no doubt about that.

I wear everything from a proper Goodyear welted shoe to the Freddy Couples Ecco sneakers to FJ golf sandals to occasionally practicing barefoot. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

My best results in terms of scores and the way my feet & knees feel after a round come with an old-school welted shoe, but I do like to change it up from time to time.

I think the Trues are probably somewhere between the Ecco sneakers and practicing barefoot.

It seems like to me the only time you could wear these would on a very hot day in the summer when the grass is sort of sticky, other than that I need that stability in my Icons especially when hitting out of thick rough or going hard off the tee, plus I just don't like the way they look tbh, would feel weird to wear all polo and have those shoes on.
