Can tees make a difference?

Wild claims out there.
I think I have tried every tee out there. Do any of them actually make a difference? by that I mean does a tee design actually help.

I read on a tee companies website that someone gained 20 yards by using their tee. I don't believe it. Unless that tee has some sort of rocket launcher attached too it, I can't see a tee making a difference.

What do you think? Do prongs, brushes or forward lean make any difference? I have yet to see it with my own eyes, but maybe robot testing or someone has evidence that a tee can help, I'd be interested in hearing about it.

The zero friction tees might not make it go further but I use them because the last forever! I've had one on the go for around the last six months!

I agree, some plastic tees last forever and I that is why I use some of them, but adding yardage seems like a stretch.

So clearly 20 yards is impossible, but what about a yard or two, is that possible?

No. Think of the kinetic engergy a golf ball possesses at the time of impact. A little old wooden tee is not even going to reduce that energy.

I use wood tees like they're toilet paper. You can get 500 of them for $5 on LostGolfBalls. This way, if I forget to pick it up or don't feel like searching the tee box after if goes flying, it doesn't matter at all. It's silly to think they make a difference. Like someone else already posted - if they did, everyone on tour would use them.

To claim you can gain 20 yards by simply switching tees is just silly.

That being said, I always stated that the zero friction tees were a gimmick and over priced. I was at a course one day, and needed some tees, and the only tees I could find were zero friction tees. I played that day and was hitting the ball really well (not any further, but straighter). I played the next few rounds with them, and didnt even think about it. I had gone out and bought a huge bag of wood tees after that, and I played a round using them and actually noticed a difference in my shots. My bad shots were more exaggerated. It very well could have been nothing more than my swing on that day, because once the ball leaves the clubface, it has long since been on the tee, so I dont see how the tee could impact side spin, BUT, I still use zero friction tees and probably will until they discontinue them. They do indeed last forever. The only time I have broken them is on par 3 tee shots hitting an iron and taking the head of it off.

I started using the Pride yellow tees (2 3/4") on my drives simply because I could set the tee at a defined height everytime... since doing that my drving has improved...

Try using plastic, they last longer. Some of us get sick of picking up after your broken wooden tees. Or keep using wooden tees, but have the common courtesy to pick up your tee.

The way that came out makes it sound like I tee up a ball, hit it, and walk off into the sunset. I do, in fact, pick up my tees when I can find them, and I give a decent look. But if I just don't see it, oh well, it cost a penny.

Google: GOLF WINTER TEES
For about $6, you'll have tees for the rest of your life. YOUR BALL WILL ALWAYS BE AT THE SAME HEIGHT.

They are undestructible, you will NEVER lose them on the teebox. As far as gaining 20 yrds, as claimed above...I'm not sold on that one!

My old home course is the only one in my province that does not close more than 3 months in the winter, early spring and late fall, you can't stick a tee into the frozen ground, hence the winter tees. I've had mine 7 yrs, still use them in very dry weather. I thought the tiny string attaching them was too fragile so, I replaced it with an old work boot shoe string.

the bristle ones, I swear, 35 yards more...honest Abe and all that...it's a frictionless launch, see?...no resistance to your power...your drives will be the talk of the town, I swear...friction is the foe to long your drives...remember, resistance is futile

I have some here I can let go, but only cause I care...

I forgot to mention...on that friction free bristle tee is a Bridgestone B330 RX ball.

I am sure some of you better ball strikers would get an extra 40 yards easy with the combo of bristle cum ball:)

I've never heard that complaint before. Broken wooden tees don't need to be picked up after. If they're in your way of your stance on the teebox, toss them into the rough and they'll get mulched up when the grass gets cut. It's not littering or bad for the environment or golf course. On a par 3, I prefer to use a broken tee to a new one so it's nice if there's some around too.

I don't mind the zero friction tees normally, but they tend to be pretty flimsy. It can be annoying watching someone fumble around with trying to tee up their golf ball for five minutes because the ground is a little dryer and harder than usual on the teebox.

Most of the times I prefer to use an unbroken tee (unless my pocket is empty and I dont want to walk to my bag), so on par 3 holes, ill usually toss my broken tee over next to the tee box marker so that somebody else can use it when they get up there.

I don't care which tee I use but I do like plastic so I've only got to carry 1/2 tees a round, I started with the 3 prong tee's (forgot the name) but it seemed to be hard to tee up if the prongs hot hit good & flattened, then I went to Epoc (think that's the name?) which were good but when the Champ came out with tees & got a few from a rep I really like them. Don't know if they help at all but they are the most durable I've come across so far, broke my first tee today after 6 rounds. The only tee I didn't like that I though added spin was the ECO Golf tees, they have a VERY deep cup & seemed IMO to put a lot more spin on the ball off the tee.

Zero friction tees. Kenny Perry likes them. WITB this months golf digest (forgot who, i think Mark Wilson), he uses them because Kenny Perry uses them. Therefore I bought a box and I use them. Marketing 101. P.S. the supposed unbreakable tee. Broke one on hole 1. Needed 2 more for the round as they become a bit of a pain when they bend a bit but I like them so far.

you're generally not supposed to take a divot with a driver tee shot, but...hey, I am sure it is working alright for you it seems.:)

Huh? Where did I say I took a divot with a drive? Are you trying to assume that I broke a tee because I took a divot? I wasnt aware that that was the only way you can break a tee on a drive. Also as far as the bending after sticking them into the grass and hitting a few balls with them, is they dont sit straight and depending on how hard the ground is they become a bit of a pain to stick in the ground straight because they are nevertheless plastic.

I would love to respond to this failed attempt at sarcasm and also your failed attempt of trying to make believe you know what you are talking about with an even more ignorant and dumb responze, but Easyyy posted a thread saying to be nice and take the higher road, So i will do just that. P.S. i think Ive taken one divot on a drive in the last year that Ive been playing and it was because I tried to hit a 535 yard banana hook drive to make a green on a par 5 in one.
