Do I need 1* upright?

I've seen a ton of charts now and some say I would and some say I wouldn't. I have all the symptoms of my clubs being too flat.

 

I'm 5'10 and my wrists are about 34-35 inches to the ground with shoes on. I can't get to golfsmith until Monday, so I'm just curious if anyone can tell me it's not my swing that's the problem!!

Hard to tell without a lie-board test. I do however would like to know about those symptoms you have.

Hitting off a lie board is the only true test. Other than sofisticate machines.

If your divots are toe deep you may need to go upright.

If you solid hits in the center of the face tend to go right you may need to go upright.

I am assuming you are right handed

Put some masking tape on the sole of your six iron, grab a plastic chopping board and take a few swings on flat ground. Should wear a little hole in the tape where the sole contacts the board. If the hole is a little toe side of the center (~1/4 of an inch) you would benefit from 1 degree up. The best way to do this is to hit a ball off the board, a nurf ball or an indoor golf ball (or even a screwed up piece of paper with a bit of tape around it) will do if you don't have a net or are not at the range. When i check my lies I tape the face and the sole and adjust so that the impact mark of the ball and the ground are over the sweet spot.

People on WRX can tell you all day what the "right" thing to do is based upon ballflight, static measurements, or where the club is contacting on the sole (depth and divot shape/size). But the truth is you need to see a good quality club fitter/instructor to get a proper fit. There can be many reasons you have a specific ball flight that could be swing or the clubs fault. There are a handful of other reasons you could mark the club on the toe (sole) that can be swing issues and bending your clubs upright simply won't fix those issues.

My advice to get fit by someone that knows what they're doing and save yourself the hassle or worrying what's correct. You may find you truly do need more upright clubs or you may find you need to fix something in your swing.

I'm going to go to golfsmith Monday and see what happens.

By symptoms I mean pushing right often, sometimes slicing. Just having a hard time getting the ball to go straight with a faster swing.
