Finish on Odyssey White Ice

Dark nickel

So ive been trying out a odyssey white ice putter and the putters have the dark nickel finish. They said they are anti glare but I find this finish to be the most glaring finish possible in the sun. I had a redwood anser last year in dark nickel and that thing was like a mirror in the sun. Well I played today with the odyssey white ice and same thing, it was sunny all day and the topline was straight up like a mirror blinding me. Why in the world do these club companies think black nickel isnt reflective or anti glare???? They even make a point to say thats why they used that particular finish for anti glare. Am I the only one who has noticed this with black nickel on sunny days.

You might be only one who notices...I don't. And I even put light coat of Meguire's NXT was on mine.

yea Im using the same white ice 9 that you have as well. Surpised you dont notice it, its nearly like a mirror when the sun hits it. I remember when I took pictures of the redwood anser, the finish looked so reflective from the flash and lights in the room in the photos

Found the glare on my #9 is pretty bad as well. Thought the same thing.

yea i dont get it, they choose that finish for that purpose alone of anti glare, yes its a little darker than silver but its reflective. The regular XG is practically no glare, same with studio select etc.

Im thinking of trying the odyssey black series tour design #9 because of the glare. anyone know of any better ones like the #9 style? Are the Method 003's any good?

Exact reason I didnt buy this putter. Rep in store said that everyone says the same thing so you are not alone. The white ice bronze is the same putter different color as far as i know. I was going to get one of those but didnt have it in 33 so walked out with a rife.

Problem with the black tours is they are pretty soft feeling...so if you liked the insert you may not like it.

Are there not products made to treat gun barrells that redcue glare on metal? Is so, this may be the answer.

I thought the black tours would be firmer than the insert since its milled metal without insert?

anyone know of like a skin or something I can put on the top part of the putter, that way I dont have to stare at the sun glare?

I am not sure how it would look, but maybe black electrical tape? Obviously rendering it non-conforming. Another option would be to have it refinished.

I have a White Ice Rossie and honestly, I don't see the big deal with the finish. Pretty much all clubs will give off some glare if they're at the right angle, that's the sun for you.

You probably want to go "satin" for your next putter. Heck, you could probably send your ODYSSEY into one of the fine putter restorers, found frequently here on WRX, and have them solve your problem. The White-Ice finish is retarded if you ask me.....probably the worst finish ODYSSEY has created since their beginning.


If you want a cheaper alternative...with an extremely similar feel to the white ice......go roll the Cleveland Classic Satin #2.

None of them felt as good as the white ice 9 to me so Im going to stick with it. i might talk with a putter place about refinishing it, I just dont want them to have to take the insert out and replace it. Any recommendations to send my odyssey to? i know of Bos

BOS is good....but I'm a "guarantee" type of guy...."I like the label on the box"......That's a Tommy Boy quote. BOS doesn't guarantee any insert putter work.
