Two Guys Better Than Stricker and Kuchar

Anybody as happy as me to see a good guy like Steve Stricker win the Memorial? And Kuchar gets second. Two class acts all the way! In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a cheesehead, but how can anyone not root for these two? They aren't flashy, but who cares? Sometimes good guys do finish first.....and second. :clapping:

Yep. Good stuff. Seems like there is also a decent cat in the number one spot as well. Have we ever been able to say that?

These guys are boring. And I don't mean it in a good way.
[/quote]

Yeah, too bad they don't run around the green grabbing their crotch, talking smack after dropping a ten footer on their playing competitors. That would awesome...

Good to see a SS win. Have always liked him...

Or yell at 16yr old volunteers, spit on greens, throw clubs, throw tantrums etc. :D

I've always liked Kuch going back to the US AM days and Stricker is a machine when he's on.

Yeah we need more of that trash on the course. Boring- every time a player says anything even mildly contentious- even if it is true they get absolutely slated on here and in the media in general- why would they be anything but cookie cutter dull!!!

Stricker is my favourite American golfer, dresses normal, talks normal, he appears to have no airs and graces but plays sublime golf when he's on and that's what counts. I always liked the story about the trailer and 25,000 golf balls from a couple of winters ago.
Kuch always plays with a smile on his face; how could you not like that.

Golf is suppossed to be a game for gentlemen, not a bunch of club throwing prima donnas who seem more worried about their tweets and press than winning with class.
I applaud both Steve and Matt for their class and world class play.

Unfortunately a pair of bald, understated, middle age, short knockers won't sustain fan interest very long. That boring course didn't help things either

Strick was a guy who actually lost his game for a long time. So he probably keeps things in perspective and doesn't get excited in either direction. Great playing and way to knock in some clutch putts.

Many of us are sorry to hear this sentiment. When you think a tournament is boring because the golfers executing best are dull personalities it makes old folks like myself worry about what's coming. As golfers it would be terrific if we applaud and appreciate the execution of beautiful shots rather than emotional displays that cheapen our game. I also wonder if the weather delay took out some momentum building with these players? I've seen Stricker get amped up a little here and there. He's no Tiger on the greens but I'm of the ilk that never really liked his fist pumping and yelling. But I do miss the charge he had when he was playing well and now I struggle with whether or not I really want that returned? It'd be good for golf but I'm enjoying seeing other players step up to the front.

I really can appreciate even keeled, cool under pressure, consistent golfers. Sure, flash draws more attention. It's just like whether you prefer a 10-9 baseball game or a 1-0 game where pitching and defense dominates. If you truly love the sport for the play, the shots then you would have liked yesterday. When you want "outlaw golf" and a bunch of ego trips, then you probably didn't like it. The others got flat out beat yesterday, congratulations to Strick.

Go Stricker! I met him several years ago at TPC of Tampa Bay. He was in the pro shop trying on belts and couldn't find one that fit. Finally the lady behind the counter said, "Mr. Stricker, those are the ladies belts." He laughed and said, "OK. I thought for a second I had gained some weight." He then came over and I talked with him for a few minutes. He was a very nice guy and I've rooted for him ever since.

He shows emotion, but it's not the fist-pumping Happy Gilmore stuff that many like to see. His is more "real".

How can someone shooting 7 under in the final round ever be boring? How can you not appreciate the surgical precision of Steve Stricker. How was that miraculous up and down from the bunker where SS had to land the ball in the rough and let it release to the hole boring? How many of us have that shot? These guys played some spectacular golf on a very difficult course and that was exciting to see. I don't need to see any Rory Sabbitani CHIT ever, nor Tiger or Sergio spitting on the green or into the cup. Nor do I ever need to see fakers turn it on for the cameras. Kuch and Strick are as real as it gets.

Great post and I agree - I've met both guys and they are as nice as they seem on TV.
No ridiculous fist pumps. No f-bombs. No club throwing. They act the way players SHOULD act.

Well said. If you replace Steve Stricker with Tiger Woods and he has the kind of week he had (ace, hole out from fairway for eagle, eagle on par 5, shoots 30 on the first nine on Sunday), all the Tiger-phants would be coming out of the woodwork to wet themselves about how exciting he is and what a great closer and blah blah blah. We'd have to endure all the nonsense talk about how he's going to break Jack's records and we should just forget how he permanently damaged the lives of his wife and children and he's the greatest of all time blah blah blah. But because that performance was turned in by a calm, even-keeled, gentlemanly guy with a Wisconsin twang, it's boring? The fact that the guy who finished second actually looks like he enjoys himself while making millions of dollars to play the game he loves makes it boring? Child, please...

Just appreciate the tremendous quality of golf on display Sunday for what it was. If you're watching just to see someone spit, holler, pump their fists, and act like they're doing the world a favor by showing up, you should be watching pro wrestling or that MMA garbage instead.:fool:

if guys shooting 4-5-6 under par on the front 9 and going nuts on a hard course doesn't excite you...then maybe golf isn't for you.

If you need the guy to be outlandish and pumping his fist like mad all the time...then you should try sticking with american football or something more violent.

That said, I always liked tiger's passion when he was in a dogfight. But I also think when duval and couples were kicking butt with their calm deameanor it was also awesome.

Golf tends to have a good amount of fans that tune in for certain players or drama lines. Tiger, Phil guys like that bring alot more to the table for the general public. Sorry but only true golf fans are able to appreciate actual good golf being played by any golfer. You have no idea how hard the game is and how good they are if you dont play. Just because somebody wants a little more than just good golf doesnt make them some child or idiot. Its boring because its a low key guy that plods along like Kuchar or Stricker and there is little excitement in a guy that hits from tee to fairway to green. Same when Zach Johnson won the Masters the other year. If you replace what Phil did on Saturday I believe at the last Masters he won when he nearly dropped 3 eagles (I think) with anybody it would be exciting. Certain guys bring out the excitment in not knowing what is going to come next. You think Stricker or Kuchar would have hit that 6 iron from the pine needles toward the green like Phil did with all that on the line? Guys with emotion and pulling off risky shots or going through adversity is more fun to watch then a guy just going along. Its just fact, and some old timers cant get that. Times are changing and lots of people like the excitement and flash and drama lines over the "beauty of the game". Dont be so afraid of change. Whatever you like doesnt make you less of a fan.

Your being hypocritical when you are calling him a child and shooting his opinion and view down and then calling wrestling and mma garbage just because you dont like it. Your implying the same thing the OP was, just about different topics. Obvisouly its not your thing, but millions of people watch both of those and are diehard fans. I would bet a main event in MMA has more viewers than a PGA tourney outside the majors. Same thing applies here, some like flashy fun golf some like a natural game.

i used to think that SS was a boring kind of guy but, that was during the days when TW was all over the news. however, since the absence (lack of events) of TW from the tour, i have taken notice of players like SS and Kuchar and realized that they seem to be genuine in all they do. SS appears to be one down to earth kind of guy. He seems very approachable and always has nothing but encouraging things to say. Kuchar looks the same except seems to smile a bit more. all in all, they may not have the WWE rivalries or the flair but, this is golf.

Why do I get the impression this guy has posters of John Cena hung all over his bedroom walls?
