How Many of You Have Met Him
Let's keep this simple. How many people here have met Tiger? I mean really met him. Shook his hand, spoke to him. Seeing him at a tournament doesn't count. Throwing your hat at him for an autograph doesn't count. You friend's cousin meeting him doesn't count.

Just want to see how many people have actually met him.

I met him at the Tour Championship in Atlanta a few years back. It was a practice round and people were asking for autographs, but he was not obliging anyone. I thought it could hurt to ask for a handshake when he approach me, so I did. I said as he approached, "Hey Tiger how about a handshake" and stuck out my hand. He grabbed it and I said, "Nice to meet you" and he looked me in the eye with a firm squeeze and he responded with a "Nice to me you too". I appreciated that he looked me in the eye as much as the shake!

I would take a handshake over an autograph any day of the week.

I am sure the people being sought to give autographs would like the same.

I would absolutely LOVE a chance to just shake his hand and ask how he is, talk for a moment, but the chance has yet to come.

Never met Tiger but my mom was the lead physician at Augusta for years (volunteers from MCG) and she has met him as well took care of his dad before he died, even has a picture with him. I have, however, had a drink with Nick Price and his friends at the house they used to rent when they came into town in Augusta.

I would as well, seems more personable! It's the only thing I ask for now at practice rounds.

He said Hi then excuse me.. I said you are a hard man to catch, he smiled... Break of dawn practice round at the 2007 US Open where I was taking picture. Does that count ?

Its been talked about how Tiger is very different on and off the course. On the course he always has his game face on, but off he is apparently very different, but only a few people only know the real him. I had the privilege to get club house tickets on Sunday at the tour championship and it was very interesting to watch the players come in. Outside the club house there were a bunch of people asking for auto graphs. It was interesting to watch as some walked straight by and some stayed and signed. What was more interesting though was that some after a period of time would go back and sign some or sign some for people inside the club house. I remember watching Tiger blowing by the group of people, then like 30 min later start signing some stuff for people in the club house, my friend got one of his gloves. It seems to take him a bit longer to get out of game face mode than most players.

When he was at Stanford still and I was attending the summer jr golf academy our group was the lucky group to get him as our university player for our round the last day of the program. He was quiet, but became more comfortable once the round got underway. Ill never forget the fact that he seemed to take a good friendly ribbing from his teamates. First day out I heard one of them say hey urkle come over here and show these high school kids a real long drive. Back then the back fence was 280, Tiger carried it with ease.

I've met him once several years ago I was playing a round while in Vegas at Shadow Creek. He, a guy that played with him while at Stanford, and some pretty good golfer from the Wynn group were playing through. We had a threesome as well, and he was pretty cool. We played a six-om for two holes. One of the holes was a par three, group with the closest to the pin paid for lunch. One of the guys in our group knocked it to about 2 feet. They called ahead and had our entire lunch and drinks comped. Have to say it was pretty cool. On a side note, a long time friend of mine while growing up in So.Cal used to play with he and Earl every Sunday at either the Long Beach Naval course (tough track), or what was Cypress municipal (I think it's now his learning center property), or another track called Dad Millers. They played together for years, my friend is an accomplished golfer for alot of years but told me he never, ever beat him one time. Said he was always serious, and very competitive.

Well, I haven't interviewd him, nor been to his house, nor had a few beers with him, but I have been very close to him on several occasions.

I've met him several times in Dubai. I used to work for European Tour productions during the Dubai Desert Classic

I was inside the ropes with Tiger for 2 days in 2004, on the radio, feeding back shot order, scores and various other bits of info, such as yardages, when I got them from the guys measuring them & club selection when I could clearly see what he'd hit

The best was in 2006 when I was one of two guys holding the microphone for his every shot for the first 2 rounds. I have probably never been so nervous on a golf course for the first few holes. It was unreal being as close to him as Stevie, even closer on several occasions. The buzz this guy creates has to be experienced to be believed. Thankfully all went perfectly well. Before the round I got a hand shake & he asked all our names, the scorers, lead marshalls, etc.. After the round, another handshake and a thank you. I then helped escort him to the scorer's office where I and several other marshalls were selected as we were pretty big guys) when he came out we waited while he was interviewed by Sky, CNN & some local guys, then we escorted him to the clubhouse. When he got there, I got another handshake and he smiled and said, 'Thanks, man, it was a blast'.

On the Wednesday, in the pro-am, I'd got to the course in time to see Tiger stiff his second shot on 17. Going down 18, I was able to walk inside the ropes with his group. After he'd lashed a towering 4 iron second onto the green, I approached him with my two youngest kids and asked if he'd sign their hats. He did so, asked them if they played. I then mentioned that I'd be with his match the next day & wished him the best of luck for the week.

In addition to that, I've seen him close up at Muirfield & Carnoustie. Yes, I've seen a few clubs buried in the ground and heard a few WTF's, but generally the guy thimself unbelievably well. Things like putting on a clinic for the kids in Dubai with O'Meara and running over the allotted time by 25 minutes, as he was so genuinely interested in what was going on. Other things like ariving in Dubai after a 22 hour flight, then the same evening, jumping on a plane to visit a US Navy ship in Bahrain to wish some troops good luck. This wasn't publicised, he just did it because he wanted to

You have to try hard to understand what a microscope he is constantly under. The biggest Rock stars have it easy compared to him. Generally, he does an amazing job

cool story here,

well i sort of bumped into him in the early 90s, could be 93 in bar off stanford campus i was not a golfer yet and did not know
who he was, he was talking to a cousin of mine, they played junior golf against each other
i wasnt paying attention, he came to our table twice to have a chat with my cousin, although i suspect he was more interested
in my cousin's lady friends from college. even bought us a round of drinks. seemed like a regular down to earth guy. i did not
exchange words with him or shake his hand as i was to busy talking to this girl. remove the name tiger from the story and it
was just a regular night, guys and gals having fun.

so different from the tiger we are so used to seeing in tv. man if only i knew.

Twice at the Buick Open in different years. A good friend was one of the higher ups and that let myself and some others have some spectacular access.
Maybe I got him on a bad day...twice...but he was a complete jerk. I'm not going into specifics as when I have before it turns into a thread about my experience instead of everyone elses. I would say that I bumped into him in the mid part of the last decade after all the success. Perhaps he made the change then and actually was a solid dude when he was younger, but I doubt it. There was a guy here whom he knew him back in the day when he was in high school and has some real interesting stories, hope he shows up in this thread.

I will say this, and anyone who has really been around him knows this. You will never meet a more effeminate acting man in your life. From the walk, mannerisms, etc.

I've heard this before...but can't really say I noticed it.

I met him in 2002 at bethpage the same way the other fellow did by asking for a handshake. He looked me in the eye as well...then I told him go kik some azz!

In 2009 at bethpage I tried but he was really pizzed off about something....was really jerky toward the fans....I think something was bothering him/on his mind. But ya.

I saw him in 2008 at the US Open at torrey pines and he signed my hat....I told him to kik azz again. Saw him hit 50+ shots over several years at the barclays here on the east coast.

That's the only contact i've had with him.

No personal experience having met him. There are not many celebrities that I would really care one way or the other to meet either. I'm not an autograph hound or anything like that, just couldn't care less, but Tiger is someone that I would enjoy meeting. From a personal standpoint, and even psychologically, I find him to be a very interesting person. I did live in Orlando off and on for about nine years, and have frequented many of his hot spots like Blue Martini, Subway, Starbucks, and of course the now infamous Perkins just outside Isleworth. I've talked to bartenders, waitresses, and baristas alike who have served him and have heard mixed stories. Those about how poor of a tipper he is are now legendary I imagine, and unfortunately that seemed to be the one common theme among all of them.
