Actually yes. The President's Cup in 2005. He was out on the range hitting balls and we were all watching him with just our jaws on the ground of how easy he made the ball go. Just smooth effortless swings. Just as he was finishing up one of my buddies is LOUD and he called over above all the kids could he sign his hat and he was active duty. My man stopped in his tracks and made a beeline to us. I didn't know if Stevie was going to tackle him or not, but Tiger grabbed his hat at gave him about 30 seconds of his time with a little chit chat. He looked at me and asked if I were military too. I said, with hubcap eyes, "Yes sir." I was struck dumb. He asked me what I did and mentioned something about his dad and how proud he was about the military and shook my hand. After that he signed some kids hats and things and walked off after about another minute. He couldn't have been nicer to everyone there.

He ain't Phil Mickelson, but it made a lasting impression on me.

I didn't even have him sign my Nike hat! Like I said, I was dumbstruck! DAMMIT!!!

That's something I like about the dude...he respects the military. Dad's influence I think.

For those talking about shaking Tiger's hand, seems I recall him stating that he prefers to shake someone's hand than autographs. Can't recall the exact wording, but I believe he was asked would he ask for an autograph of someone he looked up to and that was his answer.

Think Foley said that. Never remember Tiger saying that. Maybe Foley took that from Tiger...who knows.

Twice at the Buick Open in different years. A good friend was one of the higher ups and that let myself and some others have some spectacular access.
Maybe I got him on a bad day...twice...but he was a complete jerk. I'm not going into specifics as when I have before it turns into a thread about my experience instead of everyone elses. I would say that I bumped into him in the mid part of the last decade after all the success. Perhaps he made the change then and actually was a solid dude when he was younger, but I doubt it. There was a guy here whom he knew him back in the day when he was in high school and has some real interesting stories, hope he shows up in this thread.

I will say this, and anyone who has really been around him knows this. You will never meet a more effeminate acting man in your life. From the walk, mannerisms, etc.
Good info. What did he do to act like a jerk? The people who have met him have at least provided insight into why they liked / disliked him. Perhaps you can explain why he was a complete jerk both times you met him. What years did you get to meet him at the Buick? I think it would be interesting for everyone to hear about it.

Walked 18 holes with him twice during practice rounds. Chatted through out. He was cool the whole time. A sarcastic sense of humor.

I followed him a few times during a couple tournaments and his focus and business on the course was a sight to watch. I laugh when people claim he doesn't have any fan interaction, they're full of .... Every time I've seen him play, during a tournament, he always acknowledged his fans, and I've seen five tournament rounds. He smiles at the kids and waves when people yell out his name when he's walking down the fairway. I saw him flip a few balls, and tees which I never saw before, to kids standing by.

....

You last line made me spit out my coffee! LOL

Having seen him at the President's Cup, it's very true. Having friends see him at the AT&T, it's true. No, he's not 100% all in personable high fiving people, but he interacts with people out there waving and tapping his cap brim. When the camera is on him they want to show that stone faced focus of him. That's where the persona comes from. But when he's in the ropes over a shot and even a bit after it, he's all business. But he loves kids and it was pretty evident at RTJ when I saw him. And military. LOVES military.

C'mon DarkOne, everyone else is telling their Tiger stories and are very honest about their experience. You obviously have a strong opinion of Tiger and claim to know him very well. Can you at least provide some info about the times you met him?
Or maybe you never met him? Seems like everyone else here has backed up their stories...except you.

True story... My best friend lives in LA and he was at the sherwood country club for the playoff with Mcdowell at the target. Well right after Mcdowell won and everyone congregated around him to congratulate him my buddy being a very sly and inquisitive person went exploring in the locker room... well on his way out he decided to wash his hands after using the lieu... when he noticed and felt someone come in... he looked back and he said the guy sat down, turned his backwards and started to ball into his hands... that's when he noticed it was eldrick... so my friend slid out as fast as he could before eldrick noticed him and to this day he swears tiger thought the locker room was empty. True story.

My friend was already in the locker room... He said that there wasn't a soul around. He was snooping around and stuff.

darkone, the point of my response was not to add fuel to the fire and lay blame on one side or the other. When you ask for stories such as the op did you are going to get different responses like he did both good and bad. I just had a brief moment of hope that some members could be civil enough to read about others experiences with Tiger without the excesive man crush or haterade.

Well I was enjoying the stories that were being shared good and bad. I had the tiniest hope that this maybe the first Tiger thread that didn't turn into a complete disaster, that didn't last too long. Looks like its time to lock it up.
While I agree with you, you leave one thing out. As always with these topics, who has turned the thread nasty? It hasn't been those with less than positive things to say about Woods, most have posted and moved on such as myself.
The problem is this thread was created to gather a bunch of positive stories about Woods, which as you can see failed miserably and predictably, and now those who originated it are attacking anyone who don't have somethign positive to say about him. Our friend 502 to the right makes a simple comment and then is attacked by multiple posters here, none of whom are in the "Tiger Hater" camp such as myself. In fact, every positive story here has gone unchallenged. As always anyone with something bad to say about Woods is destined to suffer the fate of dealing with the stranger elements of his fan base who feel they need to defend his honor.

Also, it should be noted this isn't the majority of his fan base. If you notice Tembolo, E-SF, SWBYS and many others here who are Woods fans are people I would count as good friends. I don't care who they like, as I'm sure they don't care what my opinion is. The people I speak of are the small and noisy few who go down this road every time.

Wow. I really don't know what to make of this. Is your friend a member at sherwood? How did he get past security? Can he teach me how to sneak into PGA Tour locker rooms?

However, IF the story is true, I think it's fascinating. One can certainly glean a lot from it. The most obvious is that he really, really, really cares about being the best (really). Reading this, it's hard to be surprised hat he would sometimes lose control of his emotions on the course. Clearly, he simply wants it more than anyone else. I think it's a fascinating look into the makeup of a champion. Sherwood was most certainly the worst choke of his career, I had always thought that he must have been devastated by it, very few positives to take from it other than that he actually shot three consecutive good rounds for the first time in several years. Wouldn't be surprised if the story was true.

For me it's more interesting to look at the behavior of people like him through the lens of morbid curiosity as to what causes him to be so damn good rather than criticize the behavior itself. Really, none of us knows what it takes to be the best in the world; have any of us ever been the best in the world at anything? It's the same reason I was more curious than critical when watching Jordan's vindictive Hall of Fame speech; we got to see for a brief moment what it takes to be a champion, and very few of us are willing or able to do what it takes.

As for theDarkOne, say what you will about him but bottom line he is willing to pu his money where his mouth is, and that's more than you can say for most people. You gotta respect that. And resorting to criticizing grammar is kinda weak. I am though curious to hear the story of his interaction with Tiger.......

As always the Tiger thread takes a bad turn. I wasn't jumping on 502 because he doesn't like Tiger, more because I was in a fighting mood for some reason. I am sorry for my part in some deleted comments and such. And to TheDarkOne, I have no problem with you disliking Tiger, as someone else stated you are up front and honest about it, I don't remember ever jumping on you for it, if I have I am sorry for that as well. I know this post doesn't pertain to the topic, but I thought I would try to balance out some of the negativity by trying to be positive.

LOL! Wants what?

You have no clue how much anyone else on the tour wants to win. This is the typical media approach that treats the rest of the players like they are garbage or that they are inferior.
Let us know when he starts hitting some fairways or makes the cut at The Open. :beach:
