Whis is more work: light carry bag or push cart

I've always carried my bag in the past, but this year I bought a push cart. I have to admit that it isn't as easy pushing it up hill as I thought (No, I didn't leave the brake on!). I find myself just as tired. On a hilly golf course which is harder work: carrying a light carry bag or pushing a cart with a moderate sized carry bag? - Nevin

Overall I think it is the same when you throw in some big hills.

The difference to me is that with my push cart my shoulders will allow me to play all 18 holes!

On hilly courses I carry a Sunday bag, or a stand bag if it is wet or threatening to be. On a fairly flat course I push my Clicgear 1.0 around.

surely a push cart is easier. Carrying weight on your shoulders is going to cause more fatigue, no matter how light it is.

I carried for years, then I tried a two wheeled pull cart, that was almost harder than carrying.

Then, I got my Sun Mountain V1 (with seat thank you). It's the greatest way to walk a course! For the record, Western Pennsylvania has some of the hilliest courses you'll ever see!

Ha, this reference made me laugh. You're exactly right - how is it NOT easier to push something on wheels than carry it?

To oversimplify a bit: you have 2 parts to the work factor. 1) The work done overcoming gravity on the bag, which is done by your shoulders, back, and legs if you carry, and by the cart if you push. And 2) the work done moving yourself and your bag around the course, which is the same for both except for the added weight of the push cart. I would think that on a hilly course the extra weight of the cart going uphill would be balanced out on the downhill. For my thinking, I'll gladly let the push cart do the work against gravity and save my legs, back, and shoulders for the golf.

I don't know which is harder, but after years of a assumedly decent 3-wheel cart, my back was really tired after the round - and I started carrying again. I haven't looked back and I'm 59.

I questioned the same thing as you. I bought a Clicgear 2.0 and it was brutal pushing the cart up hills. On nearly flat ground it's easy but not with steep hills. I then bought a Sunday bag and it is MUCH easier (on hills) than the push cart. Again, I am talking about a Sunday bag, not a cart bag.

A member mentioned if you bought potatoes you put it in a cart. He's right BUT you are not pushing that cart up hills. In fact you are pushing that cart on smooth flooring without grass resistance.

I only use my Clicgear if the course is fairly flat, otherwise it's the SUnday bag.

Then pushcart would be easier most definitely. The only time it might not be easier if you have a really sub-par and horrible pushcart and rolls horribly and takes more effort to push. Any clicgear, sunmountain, bagboy, etc would be most definitely easier.

To the shopping cart example, imagine if you got a dud and all 4 wheels were locked! Everybody assumes quality when you suggest puchcart, but the key is to get quality!
