2012 Mizuno MP-R12 & JPX Wedge Line Pics!!! First Looks!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Looks like Luke Donald is playing the new JPX wedge at Eastlake this week!?

mpt11s

No, I seen a closeup during Thursday's coverage. The wedge he had in his hand, had a distintive ridge around the upper part

of the backside of the club. I had my glasses on at the time too!

Make no mistake this is a proper, grown up wedge. It has the funky grooves and the aggressive milled face, plus multiple loft options. As a stand alone wedge I reckon it could hold it's own against some of the very best in the market

I would suggest it would transition slightly more naturally with the JPX pro but could suit either for sure. It obviously has the visual styling of the JPX pros (which appeals to my OCD side, having the jpx pro irons already).

All I'm saying is "try these wedges out" before you automatically jump on the mpr12 train.

They have an element of forgiveness but it's only just enough to make full shots straighter. You can still make these babies dance if that's what's required.

I am seriously considering replacing my old Vokeys with a set of R12's or, more likely, JPX's. Can you give any info on how they perform around the greens - different shot styles and turf condition etc. Also how does the sole grind compare to the R12's. Looks like it might be a little less versatile?

I'd also be interested in hearing about this. Thanks for reporting back on your experiences at the national fitting centre, those were exactly the sort of comments I was looking for and I actually posted about getting some feedback like this in another thread but job done so cheers!

The sole on the jpx wedges is more like the jpx800 pro iron - that triple cut relief idea. It isn't like the mpR12 which has more of a C grind (although this is progressive and is more pronounced in the higher lofted mpR wedges)

That shows the bounce / grind progression nicely in the mpR

The JPX is more simple but with leading edge and trailing edge relief

I've ordered a 50* JPX but the head sold out already..... so it'll be a week or so yet. I hope in this loft it will perform much like the jpx pro gap wedge (which we don't get as an option in Europe). I tend to use this sort of loft a lot for chipping so I'll keep you updated re feel etc (compared to my mpt10s and the jpx800 pro PW)

Depending on how the jpx 50* performs, I might go 54 60 jpx or maybe mpr (maybe even stick with my mpt10s heaven forbid) for the higher lofts.

I tell you, I really like my Mizuno MP-T wedges, I have the chrome back, which shifts to satin ground sole, and standard face. These wedges are truly awesome around the greens, I think. But you know, the 12 is a clean look. As for the JPX, what I don't understand is, the JPX-800 PROS are grain flow forged, and you come to market with a cast club that is supposed to match the set? This I do not get. I mean you can already get GAP in JPX-800 PRO, why not LOB and SAND? I don't understand that at all.

Well, I like my Miz 52, 56, 60 wedges though, and if I can get proficient enough with a small enough number of sticks, I'll carry my 800-PRO GAP as well. Working on that,

Through my pro at my club - he's a bit of a Mizuno fan himself so generally gets the new gear pretty quick. He said the new heads should be in anytime soon so not like we're waiting months

They're showing as available at DG - bit cheaper than most will sell em too.

Glad to hear the wait isn't too long. Gonna order mine with Snainton as they have all the custom options available, more lofts and it's only 10 quid more!

Thanks for the feedback. I look froward to an update when you've hit these off some soggy British winter turf to see how they perform.

As an aside I have already read a lot of comments elsewhere that the R12 heads are very light, if not too light, especially compared with other brands. Can you confirm?

Can't be long before these conditions set in haha! This weather's amazing so late in the year. Can't complain as it's great for golf!

Thanks for the response BigPete. Think I'm gonna order a JPX 50* tomorrow but gutted to hear they are already sold out so there will be a delay!

Received my 52 and 56 yesterday. Boy, they are beauties. Had my pro order them and it took 2 weeks. Well worth the wait.
Stock GP all black VDR are a poor choice for grips though. IMO, of course.

Any feedback on these yet? Was told today that mine would be delivered in 2-3 weeks. Did you get yours yet Pete?

Not got mine yet, but to be fair, I did change the order. I originally just ordered the stock set up hoping it would be easier / faster. Since I found out about the head delay I tried to re-order with a more suitable shaft and the right grip. So I'm back to square one. My club comps have basically all finished now so I'm really in no rush. I'm mentally winding the season down.

Yeah I'm not in a rush myself either. Have our final comp this weekend for those who won a "major" tourney during the season so would have been nice to have it for that but no big deal. I've got a fli-hi coming which I'm hoping will be here tomorrow so I'll be satisfied on the "toy" front for a while anyway!

Looking forward to getting settled with this wedge over the off-season.
