Hoganesque swing ...

Recommended Posts

Zico, come on now. Guy in the video is obviously setting up people so he can sell them something at some point.

We've all seen the script before. Key points:

- I'm just like you, played a long time and never got any better
- I discovered Hogan's secret
- I'll never look at golf the same way again
- It's so simple anyone can do it
- I'm a stick now
- I won't give up the whole goods, not now anyway

His version from the youtube description ..............

This is my swing after a 1 year commitment to improve my golf game, using Ben Hogan as my ideal model. I'm about the same size and I've always admired the effortless beauty of his action. I discovered what I believe to be Ben Hogan's secret by accident while playing the final round of my one year experiment and I will never look at the golf swing the same way again. In fact, the secret is so simple I cannot fathom that it isn't regarded as the standard in golf instruction. But, with that being said, it wouldn't be a secret.

I've been playing golf for over 30 years and I've never been better than an average player. At the beginning of year I was 40 years old, my handicap was 13.6 and I had not broken 80 in 20 years. Now my handicap is 5.6, I broke 80 13 times this year with a low round of 74. And, I'm just getting started now that I have this new dynamite action.

Keep an eye out for my new documentary "My Swing Evolution." In it I will reveal the crucial elements of the game that I had to conquer in order to lift myself out of mediocrity. I'll even show you what I believe is "The Secret" of Ben Hogan's swing. The best thing is, if I can do it so can you. At this point all I can say is "If I only knew", because the one thing I've learned this year above all else is the golf swing is not that complicated.

---------
Now just videotape some swings with an Ivy cap, edit out the bad ones and you're in business. Seriously all this guy's missing is a golden lab mix ball shagger. And yes ROFLMAO

LOL.....Now I see why someone said it was gutsy for me to post an "I'm gonna duplicate Hogans swing" in this Hogan Heroes forum. Whewwwww..you guys are tough!! Glad I'm giving myself 6 lifetimes to crack the code lol. I already put a side-by-side of the 'myswingevolution' guy on youtube.

If there are any others out there that claim to have a Hogan swing, let me know....i'll do a side-by-side of theirs too. One that I'll be doing next is sevam1. Only one that i've found to be close is Martinez19696.

The line from the last thread is perfect " that video is like throwing kerosene on a campfire"
I can't believe the silence! Except for the address position, hip and knee action, release, and shoulder and arm action, the guy looks exactly like Hogan.

And for the record, I did say that I was gonna "try" to duplicate it lol.

Just adding this info in case I crash and burn....Hopefully, you all will only give me a lowercase "roflmao", or just a "rof", or a "rofl", or a "l" ..............and if it makes anybody feel good, I am sweating as I type this.

It may be useful to ad a vertical line perpendicular to the ground and next the "backside" of both Hogan and yourself or Martin ........ one of Hogans unique traits is his ability to maintain his hip/spine angle while swinging his center. It gives him the look of having deeper hips when in my opinion it is his mastery of swinging his center on the incline plane .........

The left hand nanchuck grip is excellent..i think Hogan intentionally didnt disclose it to protect the professional golfer that told him that...it ensures that Hogan lag that we all are aspiring for...maximum potential #2PA as they say in TGM, the elusive left wristc0ck...look at the left hand's little finger...that's the move! I've seen only one professional golfer who has shown tremendous success in that--the Kung Fu Panda...

Great looking swing by 'Martin'...beautiful rhythm. Lot's of Hogan elements in there, biggest stand outs for me is the lack of spine angle retention Hogan had, and getting off the right side. Hogan appears to be pushing off his right side to me...love that.
Regardless, way better than I could do; it would be a blast playing a round with Martin and watching that action. Bravo!

All I can say is that he does have an ok amateur swing but if he tried to sell his ideas, especially here,he will get shot down. The nunchuck grip is almost the total opposite of what Hogan said in 5L.The main pressure point was in the last three fingers of his left hand.He did not have his pinky sticking out nor did the end of the grip lose contact with the pad of his left hand.

Not losing control of the club with the last three fingers of the left hand is an extremely important fundamental not only in Hogan's swing but for every good player.

lol @ this guy. Look at pigeon chested tiny Hogan vs the comparison. Broader shoulders and mesomorph build/hips size/leg size. The guy is capable of producing more literal power than Hogan but will never beat his speed by a long shot. For his body shape/flexibility he has come as close as possible. There will never be another identical Hogan swing. thanks for the vid though

You need a girly waist to compete with Hogan (ie less than 30")

You're wrong dap...that raising of the little finger has proven to be the ultimate move, the same exact move done by Po (the Panda) as shown on the Hogan documentary, The Kung Fu Panda I... You can see there clearly that when Po lifted that pinky...result is the blast...ka-boom! That's how Hogan blasted the ball in that piercing low-mid trajectory that sounded differently... bullet-like aound and flight...yeah, ka-boom... I know Po is quite young, so it's clear he did not learn it from Hogan himself... Hogan actually taught the move to Po's master himself, Master Shifu...

Couldn't agree more.

(parphrasing) "The last 3 fingers in the left have and the 2 middle fingers of the right hands are all the hold the club. The rest are along for the ride" ~ Arnold Palmer

Best grip description I still use it to this day every time I explain the grip- a critical fundamental element of the golf swing!

WTF is going on here? Kung Fu Pandas and nunchucks?!?!

I believe Hogan sometimes practiced with the right thumb and pointer off the shaft, but not on the left hand. I have never heard that and there is no video evidence (that I am aware of).

Ping Guy = why do you think someone has to have a girl waist and a pigeon chest to swing like Hogan?

If you are trying to emulate Hogan's swing exactly a little more length in the backswing on the irons would be good, the driver is near spot on - right now just looks a bit too short and mechanical with the irons.

If you are trying to use Hogan's swing as a 'base model' for your own - keep swing.

Chris has completed his Hogan swing and he's letting it out of the bag at Pebble Beach. Man, I hope someday I'll be able to play at a historic course like that.

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if they have white tees there for me to hit from??

It's an o.k. swing. Probably could be a lot better if he had developed the best swing for his physique and athletic profile. That's what Hogan did. Would have been interesting to see him model his action off Trevino. They have similar builds. Build and physical dimensions play a huge role in choosing what movements are repeatable in a swing. More people would benefit from modeling Gary Player or Tom Watson than Hogan because their builds are more common. Hogan had a unique build...hence the unique swing. Don't get me wrong, I think the stuff in 5 Lesson is good for all swings...but the Hogan 'look' incorporates idiosyncrasies that aren't repeatable if you aren't built like Hogan.
