practice putting in between two tees spaced apart just bigger that the putter head.

How is your speed? Reading greens?

My speed was awful for a while. You can have the best stroke in the world but if you speed is all wrong you're still screwed

Sup guys im literally the worlds worst putter i had two 4 putts in 1 rounds with a bunch of three putts. its annoying as hell because i can get on in regulation and some times get up and down. i have a scotty cameron studio select and i dont want to change. i tend to pull the ball. any tips will be great. thanks

Usually distance control is the major culprit, and IMO, if you don't strike the ball solidly every time it's near impossible to learn good distance control.

Regarding pulling your putts - there are a couple of things you can try.

1. Try moving the ball back towards the middle of your stance and see if that helps

2. Make sure you are not standing "too close" to your ball - you may want to move the ball away from your feet and see if that helps.

As far as putting in general - to me putting is about focusing on the right thing at the right time.

And the putting process can be broken down into 3 basic focus points - in this order:

Focus on your line - then focus on your stroke - and finally focus on distance.

The last focus point is the most important - focusing on distance - because without distance (or getting your ball to the hole) - your line and putting stroke don't matter.

So the next time you play - when you get on the green first focus on your line - determine it as best you can - and commit to it.

Next - focus on your stroke and take a few practice strokes to reinforce (whatever) putting technique you use.

Finally - the only thing you should be focused on once you are dialed in on your line and standing over your putt ready to pull the trigger - is DISTANCE - getting your ball to the hole. Because if you are focused on getting your ball to the hole (at that critical moment that you actually putt) - you will have a better chance to achieve that which you are focused on - getting your ball to the hole.

Hope this helps - take care, play well and always remember: "Master golf...and you master life itself."

If you are pulling putts,I would say to keep your head down longer. I have same issue I am struggling with. I want to see if ball goes in cup. A good practice tip I was told is, listen for the ball to go in the cup. Do not look up to see if it goes in. Your hitting the ball and instead of keeping head down, you as many do immediately look to see where the ball goes. By doing that, your head is coming up just as putter is contacting the ball, and the putter face is open and you pull the putt. Easy practice you can do is just practice in your house. Just do a normal putting stroke, and just practice keeping your head down.

Most bad putters are super quick with their putting stroke/tempo. Try taking it back and forward about as slow as you think you can handle - while still getting enough speed to get the ball to the hole. Also, don't bring the putter way back, just as far as you need to get enough speed on the ball. Like others have said, accelerate through the ball with every golf shot (even a putt). Speed/distance control is more important than aim, and that takes experience/practice.

Finally, most bad putters/amateurs have a tendency to regularly underestimate the break. They refuse to believe it will break as much as they see it, because they just want to hit a straight putt. Next time out, tell yourself that if you are going to miss, always miss on the upside of the slope, since it increases it's chance of rolling into the hole rather than away from it. Also, never miss short, you will miss those putts 100% of the time! Try to stop the ball about 18 inches past the hole, even if you are only putting from two feet out.

Try a thicker grip on your putter to take the wrists out of the swing.

Or a Heavy Putter...really engages the shoulders and upper back. Also, if you don't want to give up on the Scotty, you can counterbalance it yourself and get the same effect as the Heavy.

Here is something that I tell all of my students, from beginners to mini tour players....."Know that you can make any putt you look at, but that not every putt will go in." All you need to do is find the line that you think the ball needs to roll on, and roll it down that line. One of 2 things will happen....you make it or you miss it....but if you rolled it on your line you stroked it perfect. I also teach my students that they are to NEVER hit a lag putt.....EVER!!!!! Why waste a stroke on a putt that you are NOT trying to make. Such stupidity!

To get you started, get a chalk line from your hardware store, and take it to the putting green. When you find a flat straight putt, run a chalk line about 12ft. now place a tee at 3', 6', and 10'....roll 3 balls from 3' until you make all 3, then move back to 6', and so on. Once you can do this pretty regular, do the same thing with slightly breaking putts, and run your chalk line on both sides of the hole so you have right-to-left and left-to-right breaking putts. You will become a better putter if you will do drills for about 15-20 minutes, then start putting from one hole to another around the green with 3 balls, and finishing up with putting around the green with only 1 ball.

hope that helps.....

Can you explain this further, I am not following you?
Lag putts are essentially about getting the ball close enough to the hole that your next put is as easy as possible. The point is that with lag putts you are playing to get the ball close, not to make the putt. On that basis you are basically playing to miss.

I would have to agree with Headshot. I have never understood the concept of playing to miss. Why not just try to make the putt in the first place?
