Should Tiger get a new coach?

Honestly I'm tired of hearing everyone's opinion of what Tiger should do. Tiger should do whatever he wants to do, if he feels that a swing change is needed then so be it. I wouldn't want anyone telling me what I should do or change. With that being said I think it is more mental now as he probably doesn't feel indestructible like he used to with so much baggage and pressure on him. I know he has knee issues that are somewhat forcing a swing change to extend his career, but I have no idea why the hell he would change is short game, to me that is all about feel not mechanics. Good luck to Tiger, I hope he gets back to being competitive and create excitement in the game as that is good for everyone.

I do not think his coach is the issue. I think, and its just my opinion. I think he just needs to play more. The days of him only playing selective tournaments are over. He needs to play, and get into a good rhythm. Instead he take months off in between tournaments, and wonders why he is rusty,or doesn't play well. No one plays well with 3 or 4 months in between tournaments. If you look at this years winners, the most time taken off after a win was a week or 2. Then they are right back playing.

potential to be a excellent teacher, last time i checked having hunter mahan, tiger woods, justin rose, steven ams, jamie lovemark , some of the top am's in the world is a sign of a one the best teachers in the world. if you understood the foley method, you would know he doesn't fit the players into one standard swing.

haney destory's juniors swings consistently at his junior academy, i know one junior as a example that went there as a good golfer, one year later got worse, then went to foley's camp and is a lot better now then when he was at his best before.

haney swing is lay off bump the hips and hope to catch it good. have you seen his tv show, he didn't improve ray or charles.

Im not going to get into these stupid debates about foley much more. No one in here clearly understands anything about what foley teaches(unless you work with him still/have worked with him/are tiger woods) do some research into his background when he was back in Canada and what he did with all of students(young/old/bad/good players) and then come back with points on other students why he is not a good teacher.

Tigerphan, I appreciate your passion. However, you are simply doing what SF did when he took Tiger on as a client, which makes absolutely no sense. Trashing Hank's work with Tiger is just stupid...the record speaks for itself, from the wins under Hank, the number of majors, the consistency and the ball striking stats. Look them up, they can be found on PGATour.com

I have heard other comments about junior students regressing under Hank's teaching, but I would also venture to guess there is a junior student out there that might say the same thing about his experiences with SF. The fact is, Hank has a thriving junior academy in SC and a thriving business around the world. He was successful before becoming Tiger's coach, and more so since.

You mention his work with Romano and Barkley. The fact is, Hank had the balls to put his credibility on the line in working with celebrities like them and Rush Limbaugh. You failed to mention the improvement that Limbaugh has made. You also failed to mention that Barkley and Hank remain very good friends and that we all know Charles' issues are in his head. Isn't it interesting that Tiger shunned Charles and Hank, but was responsible for introducing them to each other and they still work together?

As I've said in many other threads before, I have seen Hank get significant results in just minutes with students he's never seen before. Your comments about what he teaches also suggest that you don't know exactly what he teaches, much like I don't know exactly what Foley teaches. What is clear to me, however, is that Foley truly believes he has a model that is better than the rest and has been willing to trash another instructor's work in order to advance his own cause.

The fact is, Foley has a long way to go to prove his chops. While he has a nice stable of players to work with, like anyone else in this business, some are going to leave and find success elsewhere, such as Sean O'Hair, who clearly regressed in the last two years. That does not mean that Foley is to blame...even Butch Harmon has lost players to other instructors. It is also evident that his stable is nowhere near as strong as that of Pete Cowen or Butch Harmon, and in actuality, Foley does not have that many wins under his belt with all of these players. Give him another 20 years and then maybe he will have a track record to brag about, and hopefully some humility to go with it.

I'd be willing to bet Butch wanted a hefty amount of $$$ because Tiger brought so much in via wins.

I think Tiger would be better off with a more traditional coach. When I look at Tigers swing, it looks like Foley's swing now.

Does Tiger really even need a swing coach? I think he should be able to look at his own swing and determine what needs to be improved.
