Golf year round, skiing during season?
I was thinking that NorCal might be the only place this is possible in the US. Does anyone know any different?
How about internationally? In my line of work I have the opportunity to pretty much pick where I work. Starting to plot...

Note* skiing within an hour or two drive.

I don't ski, but I've got friends here in San Diego who snow board in season... not sure where, but it's just a day trip type of thing for them so it can't be far. Might be a little cheaper to live down here, too, than the bay area around San Francisco or wherever. Just a thought!

I'm a big snowboarder and obviously a golfer, and to me, nothing beats southern california. Golf is year round and for snowboarding, you have Big Bear (which isn't that great, but good enough for day trips at about a 2 hour drive) and there's Mammoth, which is awesome, at about a 5 hour drive (more for the weekend, multi day trip). Nothing beats the weather of southern california.

Soggy is probably a bit of an understatement. it gets really cold during winter too.

another vote for socal.

i grew up in oregon and now live in socal.

Front range of Colorado. Especially if you're talking Colorado Springs.

Added benefit is that you can brag about your driving distance without telling people about the effect of altitude.

Sedona, AZ

** Play golf every single day of the year in Sedona (4500ft) or 90 minutes south in Phoenix (1200ft)

** Snow Ski at Arizona Snow Bowl (peak of 13,000ft) one hour north of Sedona in Flagstaff (7,000ft)

Snow Bowl has permission as of this year to pipe in water to make snow. They receive an average of 290 inches of snow each year. Starting this year they will also be making snow to supplement the natural stuff. They'll be open from basically Thanksgiving to early April.

You can play golf in the morning and hit the slopes that afternoon.

My daughter and I relish the opportunity to do just that. Seattle is year round golf for the most part, and excellent skiing is 2 hours away. Mt. Baker holds the WORLD RECORD for annual snow fall. This past season it was actually closed for 2 days to dig the lifts out.

Mediocre skiing at Snoqualmie Pass, and a little better at Alpental is a mere 50 minutes away.

We love it when we can play 18 in the morning then head to Alpental for a few hours. The best day ever was in 2009 in mid-April when we played golf, took 15 runs at Alpental, then went water skiing in the afternoon on a freakishly warm day.

IMHO, you simply cannot beat Seattle for recreational opportunities.

Madrid has that kind of weather and the added plus of the sunset at about 10 P.M. There is a mountain about an hour or so from the city where you can ski in season. I'm just not aware if they have built a course there by now.

Northwest Montana....

GOLF COURSES IN THE FLATHEAD VALLEY

Golf Digest named the Flathead Valley a top 50 golf course destination. With nine championship golf courses, all within a forty-five minute drive, Golf Digest’s declaration surprises no one familiar with the outstanding quality and affordability of the valley’s golf courses, but golf is not the only remarkable offering of the Flathead. In fact, visiting the Flathead, golfers will find outdoor and cultural opportunities a distraction while playing its world class courses. Located in northwestern Montana, the Flathead Valley is a recreationist's dream.

South central Colorado (Canon City/Pueblo area). Banana belt with little snow, nice inexpensive golf courses, and great skiing just up the road. Popular retirement area for good reason.

I was going to say Phoenix, but obviously Im a bit biased lol. Golf year round, tons of options as far as upscale courses and value courses, and flagstaff is a few hours drive up north. Not the longest snow season, but it exists. Much cheaper cost of living than California, too.

My brother lived in the Carolina/Tennessee area and there was golf and snow, but sometimes it got too snowy or cold to get out and play. You will never have the problem of it being too cold in Phoenix haha. Also a pretty good location to drive 4 or 5 hours to L.A. and san diego, las vegas, and a very cheap flight to colorado, new mexico, and others.

596 and fore_life nailed it. Phoenix and just north of Phoenix is perfect. You can play in Scottsdale in shorts on Christmas Eve and be skiing that afternoon in Flagstaff.

I used to live in Mammoth Lakes, Ca. and snowboard 80-100 days a year. I could play golf most of the winter in Bishop, about 35-40 miles down the hill. We'd ride until noon in the spring and bolt down the hill for 9 or 18. Bishop CC is a fun track and gets mor challanging with the wind blowing
Mammoth Mountain gets an avg. of 350-400 inches a year w/ increadible terrain. Summer time there are 2 courses in town, Sierra Star and Snowcreek, and Carson City/ Reno are 2.5 hrs north as well.
I often wish I'd never left the area, but the cost of homes at the time there was insane.
To those who say golf in Vancouver or western Wa in the winter is viable. I disagree. Too damn wet most of the winter. I've been up here for 5 years now.

Really depends on what kind of a golfer/skier you are.

If you've got 6+ pairs in your quiver and only your bump skis are less than 90 underfoot, it's pretty tough to find consistent, excellent pow in close proximity to year-round golf. If you're willing to play less golf in the winter in exchange for generally excellent conditions on the hill, then my vote is for the CO front range, which - full disclosure - is where I live and pull 20+ powder days a year. The only other option I'd strongly consider is SLC.

However, if you're a hard-core golfer who is just interested in making a few turns 8-10 times during the ski season and don't own a pair of skis wider than 90 underfoot, then any of the warmer climates with smaller ski resorts will work.

Sorry, sticking to the U.S. How about Las Vegas (still no state income tax in Nevada I think), or if that lifestyle is a little too fast then St. Georges, Utah?

I'm moving to Vegas to try that for a while. We'll see after that. I wonder how far I would have to drive from Salt Lake City to golf in December without having to wear mittens?
i've golfed in northern colorado year round, which i don't believe is much different from SLC. normal golf glove is fine as long as you keep the rest of your body warm.

the balls feel like hitting rocks though. they don't carry nearly as far....but they roll like crazy because the grounds so hard. i've hit 300+ yard 3 woods, and 200 yard 9 irons. gotta envision st andrews and roll everything onto the green.

plus sand bunkers = snow bunkers. hard to find the ball sometimes.
