Shortening Backswing / Stopping over rotation

Monte has been helping me wit my swing, and this is the biggest issue I have. My BS looks great until I get up to the top where I should be stopping...but I keep going. This causes my right leg to lock, club to get way off plane, upper back to lean toward the target...and as a result of all of that, the rest of my swing is FUBAR. I've manage to cope with it, and I can still drive the ball well but I just can't seem to stop where I should be stopping.

 

Today I was video taping my swing and I REALLY felt like I as stopping where I should, consciously working on it, but the video only showed a very small improvement.

 

Does anyone have any tips or specific things I can practice?

What generally happens is you make an effort to shorten it and it shortens over time.

Most improvements in the golf swing come from make an effort to do it right and it gets better incrementally.

Drastic changes are generally rejected by the body.

I have not seen your video and you should ignore anything I say that contradicts Monte who know what he's talking about. That said I see a lot of people over-swinging because the angle in their right elbow becomes to narrow at the top. Make sure your right elbow angles is not less than 90 degrees. You can maintain this condition if you just think about keeping your hands away from your head at the top.

focus on maintaining the brace of the right knee all the way to the top

This put me on the road to being less FUBAR. The arms never swing sideways. The elevation of the arms should be minimal. Feels totally different, and then I guess you have made a small but real change in your motion.
