Broke 80 for the first time!!!!

Well, I broke 80 for the first time in my life!! :)

I've been struggling with my swing as of late, and obviously my scores were poor for the past month or so.

For some reason, everything seemed so... perfectly in sync at the driving range today. Swing, tempo, solid contact, etc.

 

Started the front nine with a bogey and nothing interesting happened until I got to hole 8.

It's a very short par 5 with a tee shot that goes over a water hazard..

Drove the ball perfectly to about 110 yards out, missed a 6 foot eagle putt for birdie.

ANOTHER birdie at hole 9 after a 30+' putt!

Not only 'was it a back to back birdie, but I think it's my first time making more than one birdie in a round.

With 2 bogies and 1 birdie, the back nine was almost perfect for me. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't ask for more if i could play that consistent.

 

Sorry for the bragging, but boy, am I happy!! :)

I know it's one of the easier courses around here, but it surely boosted my confidence in this game!

I think the links style had a lot to do with the low score.
I don't think I'll be able to shoot 70s anytime soon, but I'm not gonna stop trying.

It was getting pretty dark when we were on the 18th tee, and I just wanted to make sure I don't lose the ball.
Second shot out of the rough was very good. Still beating myself for missing that 4' birdie putt. Had I made it, it would've been even for the back nine.
Well, I'm very happy nonetheless.

Haha, I can tell you for sure that breaking 75 ain't gonna happen any time soon.
Heck, I'd be really happy if I could break 80 again any time soon. I still think I was lucky to do it once.

good job! you also have to consider that your round included a pair of 3-jacks and doubles, eliminate those mistakes and you shoot 74!

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I made 2 double bogies, but that's pretty acceptable in my standards. lol

Of course I think about that hole no. 3 where I lost my ball into the left side hazard... had I not lost that ball.. etc.

But I don't think I should get too greedy at this point. If I consistently hit low 80s, I'm happy.

Thank you, sir! Yeah, now that I look back, putting was the weakest part of my game that day. Need to work on that!

In my defense, that hole is a dogleg left with an elevated tee box.
I took an agressive line over the pond, plus the down wind helped a lot
I normally hit 250-260 on my good drives.
Really tempted to switch my 3-year old Burner to a new 910 D3. That thing felt awesome!

I took an agressive line over the pond, plus the down wind helped a lot
I normally hit 250-260 on my good drives.
Really tempted to switch my 3-year old Burner to a new 910 D3. That thing felt awesome!

I actually looked up that course and saw the hole with the lake and figured you cut the corner nicely.

I play a 2007 Burner also...I like it. Havent hit anything newer to see if something else works better. Dont really want to as my wallet cant handle it right now.

No doubt! 145 par 3 I took a 6 on last round. Would have shot a 85.

Par 3s aren't as bad to me. It's those straight on easy par 4's with no traps or anything haha. I find a way to make them difficult! Long par 5's are my favorite.

Congrats! It was 5 years of playing golf before I broke 80... I had plenty of lessons and a good swing, just very bad course management and bad putting. Recently I haven't hit the ball as well but scrambling has gotten a lot better.

I broke 80 for the first time this year too! after 4 holes, i had 4 over par, and the next 14 holes I played it 1 over par (with 4 birdies overall). I didn't even realize that I was 1 over par on the back until hole 18. What's daunting is that on the 18th hole, there is water on both sides. I piped it right down the middle, and I actually missed a birdie putt from a lip out.

It's amazing how good one feels after an accomplishment like that. I was so happy since that was my goal. Now, my goal is to break 75! I wont go down to 70 since it wont happen in 6 months unless the stars align.

It's a funny thing. I wasn't even really trying or thinking about breaking 80 that day. I wasn't really paying attention to my scores and just concentrated on making good shots in hand.
After my awesome round, I was so pumped and wanted to show off to my co-workers during the past weekend.
Guess what, I played terrible and couldn't make the putt for christ's sake. Yes, I was a little hungover, but 94? (sigh..)

I plan on spending more time with a pro during off season and hopefully I can lower my handicap next year.
