Forgings, "There is no substitute!"

I have just recently gone from playing Pings for approximately 15 years to going with MP-60's. Wow, there is a difference with forgings. While I am a 1.1 HCDP, I don't always hit it on the screws, and these clubs are plenty forgiving, good feedback, and not overly penal on mishits.

I love the look. Also, for any of you tall guys, my 5 Iron is 38.75" long, and had no problem getting them to D3 with Precision Rifle shafts.

They are easier to work than my I3+ Blades, and I do see an improvement in trajectory. I think the distance is basically the same, as I have set them up with the same lofts. I have the MP Fli-Hi, and it fits the set perfectly.

I give these irons a 10!!

I've had the MP-60s in the bag for a little over two weeks now and They keep getting better with each round. The ball flight is lower then my last set of irons and I think I am going to be short on some shots, but as I learn to trust them I'm seeing great results. Just wish I made the switch earlier.

Hi Ty, would you recommend these for a 12 Hcp? I'm looking at X-Tours which are very very nice but I think lack the real solid feel. I currently play the Precept Tour Premuim CB's which are nice but I'm wearing them out. Not too sure about the MP-60's in terms of forgiveness for a player at my level. Your thoughts?

I know that there's MP 27 which has bigger cavity back with minimal offset but mostly sold the other side of the world. You can get it but it's expensive. Is Precept Tour Premium CB more similiar to Srixon I 506? I thought it was one of the better ones with true cavity back with minimal offset.

Yes I think about the same as I 506, have hit them and not overly impressed with the forgiveness, but one hell of a good iron off the sweetspot.

Not too sure I'd call the Tour Premium CB's true cavity backs, the top line was mighty thin. The thicker top line of the MP-60 I was hoping would give them more forgiveness. I take your point on the MP 27 and the MX-25 looks too cavity back and too much offset.

I've joined the Mizuno family 3 months ago and haven't looked back. I would by them if I had a 12 hcp. I switched from Callaway X-14's and have already shaved 6 strokes off my Hcp. The MP-60's are a joy to play and offer excellent feed back.

I am a 9 and have MP-60s, and I really love them. I switched out of X Tours to the Mizunos.

 

If you are a half decent ball striker, I don't see why you should not be able to play these and enjoy them. You may well drop the 3 iron for a hybrid, and I think it is important to carefully select the right shafts. Get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. If you feel you want a bit more height than TT DGs will give, look at a Rifle shaft, available through the Mizuno custom order programme.

Sounds like good advice, I realise the importance of getting the right shafts. I'm currently using Rifle Lite 5.5's but these are now a bit too light so probably would begin looking at Rifle 5.5. Am not fond of the feel of DG's but would no doubt give them a try. I have a 7 iron I practice with fitted with DGS300 (they no longer make Rifle Lite) and the ball flight with that is much lower on off centre hits but no different on 'pure' strikes. For me DG feels less forgiving.

Have been looking at dropping the 3 iron for a hybrid, just in the process of trying some out. The new Titleist looks and plays sweet with the NVS shaft in it. It's the front runner for me. I consider myself a decent ball striker for a 12 hcp my short game needs heaps of work.

If I were you, and your a legitimate 12 HCDP, I would look at the new MX 25?, I think that's the model number from Mizuno. I have hit a friend's MX 23's and they are really solid, but with more forgiveness. Hope this helps.
