It's been discussed at length all day on the [s]Tiger[/s] Golf Channel. Completely unfair. Not a very good move by the PGA Tour. It's great the players vote because I think most of them will agree this was a bogus move and that Luke's consistency on both tours makes him POY hands down.

It's not unfair. A simple oversight that was acknowledged and rightly so. However, it'll more than likely still be Luke. Money title on two tours, not 3 putting a green in a gazillion holes (until Sunday) and unsurpassed consistency leading to his victories and multiple high finishes. He is number one in the world and has validated that solidly.

I don't think there is an over emphasis on major victories, but this year is unique. Luke displayed a better, more well rounded game than those he is competing with IN THIS CATEGORY. It's "Player" of the year. How'd he "Play"? Overall, the best. Putting, sand, short game, money, number 1 globally.

Most emotional player or event of the year: Darren Clarke
Best major run of the year: Charl Schwartzel
Best major performance: Rory McIlroy
Most refreshing major winner: Keegan Bradley

Notable mentions: Webb Simpson, Bill Haas

How is it unfair, again? The tournament is later. The winner may influence PGA tour POY voting. It would be more unfair, I think, to have the results of a tournament that is sanctioned by the PGA tour and counting towards wins be left out of consideration.

if nick watney wins...maybe give him the POY. He would have won 3 wgc i believe. If Bradly wins then he should def get it.

The schedule was set a long time ago and the fact that there is this last minute change in procedure does seem highly suspicious.
Coming right after Donald`s win in the last PGA Tour event is as late as it could have possibly been and makes me wonder about the motive.
Why couldn`t they as least make this announcement before the last tournament or at the very least before the 4th round?
I`m not suggesting it is unfair but it is a ridiculous manouver and makes me wonder if this would have happened if Webb had won last week.

This is a highly questionable last minute manouver but it would have been much worse if they had also said this will be official money now potentially putting the money title and 5 year exemption back on the line.

I understand the idea of having it count, but it just seems that the timing of the announcement was weird and not very well planned out, especially where it doesn't count toward the money list. If it's going to count, then make it count all the way across the board.

One of his wins was the AT&T, but he still would have 2 WGCs, should he win.

Looks like Fincham wants an American to win the title. So he change "rules" at the end of the season to suit him. Sounds like he's taking his ball and going home cause he doesn't like the outcome. Bad move at the end of the season..

The prize money at the WGC-HSBC Champions will -NOT- count as official PGA Tour money for any reason. However, the title will count as an official PGA Tour win -ONLY IF- the winner is a regular member of the PGA Tour.

Up until the last event of the season (the[i] real [/i]last event of the season, I mean, not the one we ended up with after that hurriedly manufactured, last ditch fiddle by Finchem & co. to try to shoehorn a home winner into the POTY spot and offset some of the outrage of a foreigner winning the money title) I was on the fence between Donald and Simpson. Both have had brilliant seasons, and it was a close-run thing between them for me. You could easily have made a convincing case for either player.

After Luke Donald's stellar back nine, though, and a similar sort of situation to Wentworth earlier in the year, Donald managed to pull out all the stops and gut out not just a tournament win but a much bigger prize, too. First it was the No. 1 spot in the World Rankings, then it was the PGA Tour money title. It was a stellar performance and broke the stalemate for me.

Simpson deserves to be congratulated for a great season, but Donald's the PGA Tour Player of the Year. And let's be honest, he's the European Tour Player of the Year, too.
