5 wood or 2 hybrid

so i have a r9 5 wood and i do like it but i was thinking do i take out the 5 wood and put in a 910h 17 *. both would go the same difference. i play a 3 wood 5 wood 21* hybrid. do you think it would be worth it to play the 17* hybrid. feel free to sound off on it

I'd Just skip the 17, and 21, and get a 19 or 20 and call it a day. I'd feel less confident with 2 hybrids.

Seems like the current trend is to go Driver, 17* (wood/hybrid) and 21* (3 iron or hybrid) or just skip the 5 wood altogether. I personally like to have more options in the long clubs as I am more of a feel player and can do a lot with just 48*, 54* and 60*. My current loft setup is identical to yours other than the iron lofts and I don't feel a need to change.

I would agree with you on the 17* vs the 5 wood. The differences in length would make up the distance difference due to loft. I would ask you if you play that club more off the tee than the fairway/rough? I hit all my woods primarily off the tee with my 5 wood being the second-shot-on-par-fives club. I hit a 5 wood much better off the tee than a 18* hybrid.

This is exactly I'm doing with my main set. Driver, 17* hybrid, then 3 iron. I also have the 20* and the 23* hybrids for when I play my Ping Eye 2's 4-SW.

Just dropped my 17* 910H for a 17* 910F...I also use a 13.5* 910F and a 21* 910H, so the 5 wood fills the gap nicely...I know for a fact Webb Simpson has the same setup, and others i've seen do too

I was playing a 910f 15*, 910F 19* & 909H 21*but I was getting to much distance outta the 5 wood so I put my 3w at 16.5* put in a 19* 910h @ 20.5* added a much needed GW and dropped the 5w and 21* 909.

i think it really depends on how many fairways you hit esp on par 5s
lets be honest here, you cant really use a 3 wood in the rough, but i always seem to use my go to 19* 909h 2 hybrid for that situation
my 909h is the same loft as a 5 wood, just more versatile

I just changed my TM R7 Ti 5 wood (18*) for a 17* Titleist 910H and can't be more happy about it. I am able to hit my new hybrid further (yes, further) and straighter both from the turf and from the tee.

Two years ago I replaced both my 3 and 5 woods with the R7 Ti. The reason was that from the tee it was easier for me to play the driver than a 3 wood (when the hole was short I was getting away fine with the 5 wood or with the 3 iron) and from the turf I was getting better results with the TM 5 wood.

I have to admit that I never liked fairway woods cause I was not as consistent as with irons or driver, but it is also true that I liked even less hybrid clubs cause most of my shots were going left. The funny thing of my latest changes is that after the results with the 17* hybrid I ended up getting a 21* hybrid and finally replacing my 3 iron.

Like some others in this thread my setup is now: Driver, 17* and 21* hybrids and after more than 20 rounds played in several courses I have not missed once my fairway wood or my 3 iron.

As already posted, depends on your strengths and the courses you play. I typically go driver, 3W (either 13.5* or 15*), 17* hybrid, 20* hybrid, then 4-PW. I was always a better long iron player than a FW player off the deck, and even now my 3W is primarily for use off the tee. The 17* hybrid I've found is good off the tee and fairway all the same. I'm actually one of those people who'd still prefer a 2 or 3-iron, especially off the tee, so depending on the course, the long irons make it back into the bag sometimes.

All valid points above. My suggestion is you do not need a hybrid in your bag lower than 18/19* Go with the 5 wood. However, it does depend on where you play and what is the smart choice. You've got to ask yourself a few questions: Do you want more loft? Do you play in more windy conditions? Are you in the rough often? etc.

If you play in more windy conditions and keep the ball in the fairway, go with the hybrid.

If you spray the ball and end up in the rough more often and need a go to club that will get the ball up quicker, get the 5 wood.

Keep it simple.

i go driver, 13.5 3 wood, and an 18* hybrid. i do have a 5 wood that i rotate out depending on the course. play a few rounds with each combo and see what you think.

This is essentially my current setup at the top of my bag. Driver, 14* Rapture 3 wood (for off the tee), 17* G15 4 wood (for off the deck), 21* Rapture 3 hybrid or 22* A7 hybrid, then 5 iron and up. I do have an 18* Rapture hybrid that I'll use from time to time instead of the 4 wood, and I sometimes pull out the strong 3 wood and go straight from the driver to the 4 wood or 16* K15 3 wood (in which case I can throw in another hybrid). Since I generally use 4 wedges, I need to make some compromises at the top of my bag.

Hybrid is a little more versatile. Definitely better on more lies than the 5 wood will perform.

You could always go with one of the FW/hybrid crosses that Adams has come out with the last few years. I switch back and forth between the 17* Super Hybrid and a couple different 18* or 18.5* 5 woods myself.
