A walk at an older golf course

What We Found

We spent the day moving the last child "out on his own" . I was tired from the moving and Donna had left to get groceries. The American Cocker Spanial "Misty" and I decided to head off for a walk at an older well known golf course called,"Whirlpool". It was designed by Canadian Golf Course designer," Stanley Thompson" and built in 1950. We arrived around 5:00 p.m. and soon headed across the second hole fairway towards the 4th hole tee. Beside the tee, is a "Thunderstorm Shelter" and beside it is large swath of land that is adjacent to the 4th and 5th holes. Misty and I walked the "swath of land" and found a dozen golf balls. Three of the golf balls were "a few years old". We found a MacGregor Tourney, a red script Titleist and a Topflite. All 3 were "made in USA". We had a nice walk Misty and I and wondered what life was going to be like with both children "out on their own". Last night Donna went to bingo and the pup and I watched the TV. I missed Raymond last night but know, "thats life".

Its been a long time since I found a MacGregor Tourney golf ball
on a course!

Interesting topic. I love old courses. They walk and play differently than newer layouts. Most of the courses I play are old designs. I love playing a course that has some history.

I don't live too far from the OP in this thread. Two of my favourite courses in the area are Stanley Thompson designed 9 hole layouts, one originally set-up over 100 years ago. If all I ever did was play 9's at a time at either of these two layouts, I wouldn't feel like I was missing out on anything. There really is something to be said for a mature design on a waterfront property.

I played that course many times in the summer of 1969 and it was beautiful, but long and difficult back then. Now it's an "older" course.

I'm thinking that this thread is less about golf balls, and older courses than about Raymond going out on his own.

Mine is ten, she's on my avatar, my user name, and a big part of almost everything I do.

I can only imagine how hard it's going to be when she "flies the nest".

I (sort of) get you Max. I'm sure you and your wife did a great job with all your kids.

Well, I'm retired now and have time to exercise how and when I want. We have an American Cocker Spaniel now with allot of Springer Spaniel in him. Max is about 14 months old. This morning we ventured down to an old favourite. The[url="http://www.niagaraparksgolf.com/whirlpool-golf-course.html"] Niagara Parks Commission [/url]Whirlpool golf course. I've been playing the course since I was 13 and walking it since I was married to Donna and had our first dog,"Shelby"(1990). There was no one on the golf course, all the flags have been pulled, all the [url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qrHgY2ZdkM"]greens have been aerated [/url] All the tee box markers have been picked up and placed in the Maintenance Buildings. Max and I walked for about 45 minutes. To our surprise, we didn't see one,"[url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z97f-HmQqgI"]White Tail deer[/url]". That's unusual. Usually at this time of the year they are all over the golf course.

once the last one leaves the nest life sure does change .

the pace will slow and there will be more quiet alone time to occupy yourself.

nice to see you are walking and have a good companion to share that with you .

seeing your kid/ kids doing well means we did our job well and they actually did hear us !

Charlie loves this time of year

Ironically, I once found a 75 year old ball at a Thompson course . 1920 ball and it was 1995

[/quote]The thing about finding old balls is: have they been lost since they were new or has someone else just recently lost an old ball they were playing?

Good find...How is Charlie? Have you been able to get out with Charlie the last couple days? Max

Charlie is still exhausted from his long double weekend off leash runs and pond swims
