Who uses EYE 2 Wedges (SW or LW), in their current setup?

Why do you like them? What iron set are you playing with them?
Hey All,

Recently I had an intrest in trying the Ping EYE 2 wedges SW and Lob Wedge. I have not hard the pleasure of hitting them yet as I am searching eBay for a decent priced one.

My questions for you all is:
Which model do you you Use: Plus, No Plus, or Plus No Plus, Stainless, or BeCu (Copper)?
Why do you like them?
What irons are these wedges paired with?
What makes these wedges better for you compared to a traditional Vokey or Cleveland 588?

I have seen these wedges in many tour pros bags, some of which just boggle my mind. For example Billy Andrade uses the Eye2 wedges with his Forged Mizuno MP33. This makes me think why, who uses forged blades with cast cavity wedges?

Please post some info on your experinces please.

Thanks, Gio

hey, if you like the eye2 wedges, then try the new ping i wedges. they have the sole and bounce of an eye 2 wedge. They will be easier to hit due to not being forged like cleveland and vokeys

I play a full set of Eye2+. I carry the sand wedge. The + models have

a different sole grind that doesn't have as much bounce. If you play in

conditions that are hard, they work beautifully! I tend to grind my lob

wedges to somewhat mimic the PING grind.

The Eye2 (no plus) have the more agressive square grooves and much

more bounce in the sole. They are considered the "Holy Grail" by some

due to these grooves. I also believe that the lofts of these are weaker.

You can check the PING website for that information.

You arent the first to say the same thing. Look at the recent Ping staffers on the PGA. I am seeing many i-wedge change oves in short time. I am suprised to see so many guys go to the i-wedge.

Look at the recent Ping bags...

Personally, I don't like the Eye2 wedges. The leading edge has a huge curve to it which makes it hard to line up and never suited my eye. I had one many years ago but went to a traditional teardrop shaped blade wedge and never looked back.

I'd take a strong look at the iwedges. They have a more traditional shape and leading edge than the eye2's, but with the benefits of the great sole grind.

I respect Ping's attempt to offer a wedge more remenicent of most mainstream wedges, but why would I give up my Vokeys for that?

Well I think you might want to give the i-wedge a chance because of the similar design on the sole they have to the eye-2 wedge.

I am playing Vokey's like you. However, I am not happy right now with them. My confidence has been jeopardized recently and I don’t like it a bit. Hasn’t had the time to practice it out either. I have always heard from all players alike that have had runs with the eye-2 lob wedge specifically that they swear by them. "Crazy easy to hit". Out of the sand as well as other normal shots. I want to give them a shot. Then I hear Sandy and a bunch of other members here talking about this i-wedge and how it looks to be close to the eye-2 sole grind.

Also the fast change of so many PGA players has caught my eye also. Look at how many went to the i-wedge over the more traditional tour wedge (vokey, tour Ping, Cleveland, etc...)

For EYE2 SW, I have two.

An original and a Plus.

Be mindful of the loft changes throughout the years in these two lines of wedges from PING. See my sig for the lofts I have.

I almost never hit the original SW. I mostly use the + out of the sand.

The original EYE2 SW is a great and cheaper alternative for a Lob wedge. Mine is a 57.5 degree.

These i wedges have caught my eye though. No pun intended. I was playing over the Labor Day weekend and dinged up my EYE2 PW pretty bad. I may shop around for an i wedge in a 50 degree to replace my EYE2 PW.

I've played Vokey's for a long time, but on occasion have played the Eye 2+ SW/LW. As I play a 52, 58 combo in the Vokeys, the 53 and 58 Eye 2+ SW/LW combo works pretty well. I feel like I can lay the LW open and swing w/ confidence. The biggest difference is that the Pings hit higher and are a tad shorter on full shots, but that really only applies to the SW since the LW is more for chips and touch shots.

I play an orginal stainless Eye 2 SW (57.5) out of the sand. It works great. I recently shelved my Vokeys for two i-Wedges. The Vokeys feel softer, but the i-Wedges are more forgiving for when I have a bad lie and don't strike the ball exactly as I intended. The i-Wedges are more "clicky", if that means anything.

ive carried an original eye 2 wedge(51 degree) as a gap wedge for over 10 years or so and keep swapping between an eye 2 and i sw. this despite the fact i played forged blades for 18 years. just incredibly playeable fora huge variety of shots long or short. remember in his prime Ballesteros used one and Azinger holed that bunker shot in the ryder cup with one and outside of putters it must be the only clubs over 20 years old still in regular play on the PGA tour

Have had the Iwedges for around a year now and they are the best wedges Ive had. Tried to go back to my BeCu Eye2 for sentimental reasons but the Iwedges are so much eaiser to hit and more forgiving. Using the Iwedge compared to "traditional" wedges is like cheating...really.
Now if PING would make BeCu I-wedges that would be IT!! :)

I just threw an old Eye 2 beryllium sand wedge in for my round this morning, and also had a bit of a play around the chipping green with it. I've been gaming a 200 series Vokey and/or a SM56.14 for the last 5 years.

I played one of them for years on rotation with a 588 wedge before I went to a Vokey sand wedge (and, latterly, a Nike 60)

Fantastic bit of kit. I forgot how good these wedges were. Heck of a lot of bounce on them (although I prefer a lot in my sand wedge) but very versatile and a great performer from sand - even half-frozen sand like we have here at the moment.

The only caveat is it's a bit of a shock to see a chunky great offset hosel and a square face when the rest of your clubs have neither.

I have decided to go back to my eye 2 irons. I don't get to play enough to hit my 690mb's consistently anymore.
I like the eye 2 wedges better than the eye 2 + wedges.

Does anyone know what kind of polishing wheel is used to get the stainless steel ping eye 2 irons to shine like chrome? I have seen many pictures but I can't get the same high polish. Any suggestions?
