Surprising Fairway Woods

Which fairway woods were better than you expected?

I'm looking to try out some new fairway woods this winter for next season. I'm looking for a 4 wood (or high loft 3 or low loft 5 depending on the brand). I'd say in the range of 16* to 19*. Aside from the 910, R11, and all the popular picks... What fairway woods did you try just because you figured why not, but in the end it surprised you so much you had to put it in your bag?

I know you said not the 910F but the 910F is really really good.

I've been playing a 3 wood 15 deg with a tour ad and it's awesome off the tee. I might get a 5 wood to match.

Ping G15, forgiving, long, very good feel. Mizuno MP, workable, long, great feel and sound.

I really like Bridgestone's J40 line... they make a 4wood.

I like their new line too... but wasn't thinking about fairway woods. Their black oxide wedges are so sweet, that's all I think about now when it comes to Bridgestone. Thanks for the idea!

I have 2 sets of fairway woods:

Ping K15 16* 3 wood and 19* 5 wood
Sonartec LS-99 3 wood 16*, NP-99 5 wood 19* and LS-99 7 wood 22* ( all +1")

Both sets are awsome clubs. I use them both!

Adams F11 Ti is equal to anything I`ve ever tried.Some people can`t get past the slot on the top but I kind of like it now.It grows on you quick once you see how the ball`s flying.

Titleist 904F. I'd sold my fairway wood and needed one for a weekend round. A buddy let me use his 904F 4-wood. My regular clubs are all Ping and I'd never seriously thought about gaming a Titleist wood...I figured they were as unforgiving as mother-in-law.

But that fairway wood was AMAZING. The feel was incredible and it was WAY longer than any fairway wood I've ever played. 80% of my fairway shots are for tee shots on tight holes. We were playing a very tight course and it was one of the best driving days of the season.

I ended up buying a 904F 5-wood for next to nothing that plays as long as my old 4-wood. As a bonus, it's just as good off the turf as the Ping.

the are difficult to find nowadays in pristine condition, but my vote for "surprising" and GREAT FW goes to the '07 TM Burner line up...i didn't like the crown graphics when they came out, but mine is STILL in the bag all these years later; just a great, great FW

Mizuno MP, hit this club, very long on mishits, great outta the rough, you can pick these up with a mizuno fubuki off golfsmith for like 120

Sonartec SS 2.5. slightly deeper faced than most, an absolute rocket from fairway or tee and i got mine with a Fubuki in the used bin at GG for either 20 or 30 bucks and i wont be getting rid of it anytime soon.

Save yourself some serious cash and pick up an old Taylormade V Steel 4 wood on the bay... Those are still some of the best woods I've hit. With the cash you save, you can pop any shaft you want in it!

All personal preference, mine is the r9 fairway wood, Plus they make a 4 wood! Martin kaymer still uses his...I think Luke Donald does too? (3 woods though)

I was going to suggest that one too! I had one in the bag all year this year after picking it up for a song. Couldn't believe how good it was.

Ugly name, though: Adams Insight Tech a4 "Boxer" Hybrid Fairway Wood. Kind of a mouthful.

Another vote for the Bridgestone, they are a real sleeper. I have the J38 3 wood and 5 wood and love them, going to consider getting the J40 4 wood soon though and maybe bag another wedge.

XCG line from Tour Edge. Stupid easy to hit and the 16.5* is as long as any 15* 3 wood.
