How to check takeaway??

hi guys, working on correcting my inside takeaway, and obviously the correct takeaway currently feels like the club is miles outside my hands. i just wondered if anyone has any ideas on a checkpoint to make sure its not too outside or isnt still inside?

 

ie. club on floor alond footline and stop at takeaway and check parralel? things like that?

The ideal would be to have a mirror behind you (i'm fortunate that my range has these on all the bays) and the club would pass directly through your hands on the takeaway (for most methods anyway).

The club on the floor along the footline will do the job just fine though.

Another option of course would be to use a camera but with this method you wouldn't really get instant feedback.

PS. Just a side note but make sure your inside takeaway isn't partly a result of something else such as your grip or address position

Try to place a small thin bottle 12-18 inches directly behind the ball.Knock over the bottle going back.You should hit the bottle more towards the toe as your club is traveling in an arc.Refer to my post 4166 on the 9-3 pinned discussion.

I had that problem (still do to a lesser extent).

 

I ended up using a device that I called "Henrietta'. It is two pieces of 3/4" PVC connected with a 12" piece of rubber hose (picture attached).

 

The picture is what you would see from your address position when looking directly AWAY from the target.

 

The idea was that you had to keep your clubhead OUTSIDE the end of the PVC pipe going back (any kind of lag at all would keep the clubhead short of the PVC on the downswing).

 

It 'worked' in the sense that I learned to swing without hitting the PVC. However it accidentally changed me from a one-plane swing golfer to a two-plane swing (which I ultimately abandoned). And it honestly used to take 3 to 5 minutes of failed swings before I could make a single swing with the device. Saved a ton of money on range ball fees

ps. The name Henrietta is a take off of Ben Hogan's supposed imaginary practice partner that he referred to as Henny Bogan. This device is shockingly unforgiving so a feminine name just seemed right :-)

Michael Breed from the Golf Fix suggests practicing with a swim noodle on the floor. He also uses a flooty around his mid section. Harry - I think he calls it.

Try putting a laser pointer in the butt of a practice club.
Practice your take away keeping the laser pointing a straight line with the ball.
