Sandy Lyle's career is often overlooked in regard to the other Europeans but he deserves a lot of credit for getting it done on both tours. 2 majors too.

Peter Alliss IS golf in the UK. Obviously an institution in the BBC commentary box, but also previously as a Ryder Cup stalwart and successful tour pro in his own right.

More than many realize..

Monty said of him:

"Sandy has more talent in this little finger than most of the players on this tour".

He added......

"I asked Seve Ballesteros in 1992 who would win if everybody was playing best and he said Sandy would by five strokes.

"Some of the shots he can play others can't".

I saw him on the range at the Scottish Open this year and he still rips it. He's still as long as all but the very top bombers

I'll never forget the way he could get his Ping Eye 1 iron out there in his prime. It went past many others good hits with driver. (In Dubai earlier this year Tiger was talking about that with Westwood as they waited on the 7th tee)

Congrats to Alliss. Watching tournaments with his commentary is fabulous. There is no better golf commentator than Peter Alliss.
I'm too young to have known him as a player, but his TV carreer is enough to get him in the HOF in my opinion.

I live in europe and we have a choice of watching tournaments like The Open and The Masters on the BBC or international golf channel/NBC/CBS feed.
The BBC is just 10 times better, Alliss' commentary, Ken Brown on the course, etc ... A true joy to watch and listen to.

Lyle won in the US before Faldo, which must have irked SNick. Wonderful player - watched him for a while at the Open this year and he can still kill the ball with what appears to be minimal effort.

Lyle seems to be overlooked most of the time. Alliss is just the best.

Sandy Lyle has been always underrated when compared to other top European players. 18 wins in Europe is a great feat and also other wins on the PGA.

I have always been surprised that he only has 4 top 10 finishes in majors but of course 2 major wins though.
