VERY FIRST LOOK AT THE PING i20 IRONS

I wouldn't worry about the bounce on these clubs. Ping said they made the bounce higher due to the weighting of the club being more prone to digging. So I would at least give them a try before writing them off for having too much bounce. I doubt Ping would drastically change the bounce from the other i-series clubs unless it was warranted. From the few reviews I have heard about the irons nobody has said anything about too much bounce so I think it will be a non issue
I think this is the best advice I've heard around here, and not just concerning the bounce on this particular club.

upcharge for kbs tour?
The KBS Tours on 1 site that i looked at were $9 a club & another was no upcharge.
What sites tinman
Golfsmith has them for + $9 per club(individual).TGW doesn't have custom options for the i20's(my mistake-sorry),but i checked the option upcharge for the s56's & it was zero $.I'm going to demo them first, but get them from a wrx supporter when i know what combo that i want.
I ordered my I20 4-pw,uw KBS Tour, Mid-Size grips, $100 a club. No upcharge.

As one who has NEVER had wedges that "matched up" with the rest of my irons, I'm especially intrigued about what Ping has done with the i20's. With a 46 degree pitching wedge, the loft of the three wedges follow in perfect sequence: 50, 54 and 58 -- exactly the setup I would want.

Now, of course, the question is How Do They Look? Also, even though many of us are are using cast clubs from 3 to PW, we usually go with a set of forged wedges but of course the i20 wedges are cast as well. Like everyone else, I'm VERY curious how these will feel and how they'll spin.

Pics, soon, I hope!

Were did you order them for that price???

Pro Golf in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Golfsmith, Discout Dan, and Golf Galaxy all have the same Price. I chose Pro Golf because of the staff there and the professional fitting. They also fitted me for my i15's a couple of years ago. Very knowledgeable staff.

No Offense. I was referring to the 4 that I listed. They all offered 8 clubs for $799.00, basically $100 a club. I'm sure there are other places that may have upcharges, I was simply making a suggestion. Did you find them for less with KBS shafts?

Ping has some the strictest, if not the strictest pricing policies in the industry. I'm waiting for approval from our Ping rep to buy i20's at a discounted rate from the pro shop I WORK AT because we arent willing to risk getting our account pulled.

If you found someone willing to risk their account by selling Pings at a discount, then buy them before the account gets stripped. Remember all those shops losing Ping because they offered a military discount to active service members.

It can and does happen. Ping considers it a privilege to sell their products. Personally it doesn't bother me because it helps their clubs hold their value. My.02

Can anyone comment on the blade length of these irons compared to the i15s? I've looked at the i15s in the past and the long irons were just too big for my tastes. The 3 iron was definitely too big and the 4 iron was tolerable at best. I would hope to see a noticeable decrease in the size of the longer irons and perhaps a slight decrease in the shorter irons as well. Thanks.

They are going to be the same size if not bigger. Ping said one of the mistakes they made with the i15 was making it not forgiving enough, so they arent going to be smaller. They did however decrease the offset, guess it wasnt working for them.

I went & looked @ the i15's today to compare the size.I would hope the i20's wouldn't be any larger than the i15's-especially the sole. The s56's look very good.

Bob, You know you are a TM guy and aren't going to change. ha ha The stock ones are probably the ugly ones above my post, course you can order different ones if you want. I ordered Golf Pride black VDR grips on my G20s. I will put them on the i20s if I order some.

Who is ordering them with what shaft? Debating on KBS C-Tapers or nippon Modus3.

Curious as to anyone's input who has compared the CFS shaft to the others (DG, PX, KBS, NIPPON, etc.)?

According to the Ping HD app, the i20 irons are winners of the Editors Choice Award from Golf Digest's 2012 Hot List.
According to this list they didn't win any category within the "player's iron" division (almost swept by mizuno) :
I've used Vokey wedges for ages and honestly hadn't really thought about this question. Upon reflection, I thought, "I bet they are cast ...but they sure look and feel forged." (I play forged MP32 irons)

A quick look on their site revealed the answer: yes they are cast.

Q: What is the thinking or engineering reason for cast wedges?

A: Titleist Vokey Design wedges are cast from mild carbon steel which is heat treated to match the softness of the material we use in our family of forged irons. This means the feel and sound of Vokey wedges are very similar to forged irons. Over one hundred Vokey Design wedges are played each week at a typical PGA Tour event so the feel and performance are well-accepted by the best players in the world. We choose to cast Vokey wedges because of the large number of models we develop for both the worldwide professional tours and the marketplace. Cast tooling is a more efficient and accurate way to faithfully reproduce the special grinds Bob creates for the Tour. We are also able to more rapidly develop and test prototype sole grinds and to finalize the slight tweaks needed to create the best performing wedge products.
It's a bit hard to sort things out in the online version of the Hotlist. In the Golf Digest print magazine, the feature starts with just four special Editor's Choices from the 155 clubs in total that receive recognition in all the categories: "Four Clubs that Raise the Bar" is the subtitle.

They are: Ping i20 "The players iron that has everything" ...and then a short write-up on why.

and the other three special award winners: Taylor's Rocketballz Hybrid, Titelist's Vokey SM4, & Callaway's Razer Fit driver.

In each of the ten categories, there is an section Editor's Choice award. The Ping i20 was the 'Editor's Choice' in Players Irons, The Mizuno MP59 actually dominated the section, as the overall winner in three of the four evaluated criteria: Performance, Innovation & Look/Sound/Feel. The Titelist AP2 won the final criteria: Demand. In other words, they chose the i20 overall, but it didn't win any of the categories.

Ping did really well in putters this year (20 awards!). In irons they scored Gold with K15, G20 & i20, and Silver with the S56.
