A forgiving 2 iron?!

Stronger Irons
Okay let's say for example you played in Australia and you play a hybrid but it gets knocked down by the wind, so how do you solve that problem? Tiger solved it by taking a game improvement nike vr s forged 3 iron and bending the loft to 18 degrees making it a 2 iron. Question is: Would you do the same? What I would do if I do play Titleist clubs is to buy an ap1 3 iron and bend it 2 degrees strong to 18 degrees and then play ap2 3-pw as normal, but what would you do?

I would find an older club like a Ping Eye 2 or an older Callaway 2 iron on an auction site and go from there. Otherwise you need to buy a 3 iron bend it 2-3* strong, and get a shaft 1/2" longer than standard soft stepped once.

Callaway X2 Hot Pro (3* 4-GW) Modus 130 stiff

What do you do? You buy a B'stone Airmuscle 2 Iron, increase the shaft stiffness by a little from your normal irons. Done deal, keeps the ball on a laser like trajectory and under the wind. Problem solved. Check signature.

I had a 2 iron with my X-20's so that was easy enough.

Pretty much any Callaway X series head (ie., 12, 14, 16, 18 etc.) are solid. The Mizuno Fli-Hi heads are solid performers too.

I remember when we HAD to play 2-irons. I grew up playing in the wind on the great plains of the US and I even played a 1-iron for years. Trust me, you should use your hybrid and work on hitting a low draw. You can also affect the trajectory quite a bit with different shafts. You might consider playing a steel hybrid shaft like the KBS Hybrid. I think you'd hit it farther than a 2-iron, especially on off-center hits, and it would be a lot easier to work the ball and control it.

I would purchase a 3 iron from either one of these sets Burner 1.0. Burner 2.0 or S2 Cobra all you need in a long iron and easy to hit. It will be cheaper than a hybrid (Buy used) and off the tee they go a mile.

I have a 712 CB 2 iron and I love it. I also have a R9 TP 2 iron which is easier to hit but I re-shafted it with a KBS C-Taper shaft and now I hate it. Sticking to DG X-100s and when I get older, S-300s.

I bent my i15 3 iron to about 19 degrees and it is a monster. I have never been a good fairway metal player and have always struggled with hybrids as well so I went this route. I go straight from the driver to the strong 3 iron. Distance is not an issue and I am much more confident with the strong 3 iron, hence I make better swings.

I play an I5 2 iron. Very workable and forgiving. I hate hybrids and I'm sick of everyone acting like well, you can't play the game today without hybrids. Bull! Some other suggestions- get a G15 or G20 3 iron they are already 20*, I think, bend it. Or get, as others have said, Eye2 1 or 2 iron. Some people prefer irons. If you can hit them and get them in the air why not?

I have a Bridgestone Air Muscle 2i with a NV (green) 75 gram shaft in it. This club will flight just like a iron; I can do stingers with it or nice high shots. Also have Niki Vr full cb 2i that works well, but not as forgiving as the Air Muscle. The old Ping Eye 2 is probably the best 2i ever made.

Good advice here. I typically carry only 13 clubs (see sig), but in conditions where this moon-ball hitter wants to keep the ball down, I go with one of the exact clubs mentioned above.

Here's my 2 cents. If you want offset, go with a Ping Eye 2 or even the subsequent Zing models. For less offset, thinner topline, and still some heel-toe length, I'd pick the Maxfli Revolution Black 2-iron. Both are forgiving relative to a straight blade or your typical small CB 2-iron.

Or if you're in the hybrid camp, look into a 16* hybrid with shorter shaft - around 39.5" total length, which is what the standard 2-iron used to be.

I would love to have an AP2 710 2 iron. The AP2 3 iron is the easiest long iron I have ever hit. But I'm a digger and bending it to 18* would have changed the bounce the wrong way. So I ordered a 710 CB 2 iron. Did not soft step the shaft (DG X100, +3/4 inch) but it is 1 swingweight lighter than the rest of my clubs. This club is awesome. It doesn't dig too much and has a lower than normal ball flight, for me anyway. Easy to hit for a 2 iron, but it's still a 2 iron.

This is exactly what I have done. Bent the AP1 to 18* and AP2s for the rest. works out great for me actually. I use the "2 iron" a ton, actually.

I've got a few thoughts. My first is that if you find a super forgiving iron, it will also probably have a low COG which will try and help the ball in the air. Second, I would want to try this experiment as cheaply as possible in case it doesn't work out the way I wanted. So find a 1/2 decent used 3 iron, have it bent a little strong and possibly a longer shaft. Most I'd spend is $50. When you bend the 3 iron stronger, it will move the COG of the club a little higher which should really help keep the ball down. Third is maybe trying to learn some different shots. Like a soft or dead armed shot with a 3 wood. This will reduce overall spin and keep the ball down a little. When I've got lots of room to run the ball, I'll even hit a choaked driver off the deck when it is super windy. Hitting it low on the clubface greatly reduces launch and sometimes spin with the new drivers. Thinning a 3 wood will also do the same thing =).

Go with an older model that still had a 2 iron offfering. I have a titty 690 CB 2 iron that is a bomber. Like the OP said, in windy conditions or on a hard course the 2 iron is in many ways a better option than the hybrids out today. Someone mentioned the mizuno MP fli-hi hybrid irons, those are a good option too, I found them to be too heavy but I know people that really prefer them to a traditional hybrid. Just out of curiosity, wouldnt bending a 3 iron 3-4 degrees strong leave it with close to zero bounce? Seems like a good way to embarrass yourself hitting a long iron fat.
