I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a new Callaway Razr Fit driver, 10.5* in loft and shafted with a Fubuki K 60S. Comparison pics of this driver can be found at :

Appearance


This driver retains very much of the "traditional" shape of drivers which companies such as Callaway, Titleist and Cleveland etc have been trying to promote over the last few seasons. By traditional, I mean that the driver is mid-depth, not too deep faced nor too shallow. Most of the "volume" of the Callaway Razr Fit is found in a semi-elongated body shape with the back of the Razr Fit being pushed out as far as possible to the rear of the club. If one was just presented with a plain black driver view from the top down, it would be difficult to distinguish between the Callaway Diablo Tour, Titleist 910 D2, Cleveland Launcher DST and perhaps a Ping G20.

Hence, in conclusion, the Razr Fit retains all the traditional-ness of the mainstream driver out in the market, and this would definitely appeal to a large number of golfers looking to try / buy a new "big dog" without having to adjust to any "radical" driver shape changes.

This club is pleasant to look at at address, and when placed on the ground sits square (when the adapter is adjusted to a neutral setting). The most "busy" part of the club, IMHO, is the base, and its a good thing that we do not look at the base when teeing up!

Playability


I took this driver out for a round of 18 holes on a fairly tight course over the weekend - and as the ground was still somewhat soggy, most of the drives and distances obtained were based on carry alone with minimal run.

I swing at about 92mph for the driver (not full out), and I am a fairly high spin player. Hence for the initial swings, I found the Fubuki K shaft at stiff flex a touch stiffer than I would ideally like my driver shaft to feel. The Fubuki K was a solid one-piece shaft in that no matter how aggressive the transition at the top of the back swing or the overall swing itself, the shaft maintained its form without any undesired flex at all. This "one-piece" feel allowed me to really feel the driver head and to a certain extend, see how "hot" the Razr Fit's driver face was.

On half the drives that I felt that I had connected well, I was averaging about 230 to 240 yards. This was all carry. Given that the shaft was feeling a tad stiff for me, I reckon that a slightly softer shaft with a little more kick would have added about 10 yards more. What I realised however was that this non-personalised driver was in fact almost similar to the distances I get with my gamer, albeit about 5 yards shorter. Given this, this driver has the potential to assist me with getting some better distances (once properly fitted).

On several holes where I failed to connect sweetly in the centre of the driver, I found that low hits below the equator line of the driver still resulted in very straight drives with minimal loss of distance (prob about 10 yards), and higher hits went a similar distance as well. I therefore conclude that this new Razr Fit has improved on the forgiveness factor compared with the Diablo Tour.

Personal Opinion


This driver is definitely on my wish list for the 2012 season given its adjustability and forgiveness. It also has some "pop" to it based on the visual ball speeds that I see from my drives.The biggest thing that I like about this driver is how the acoustics........ if you have played a TM 300 Tour or a TM 500 Tour, or even a R510 TP, the Razr Fit has the same muted "solid" sound at impact. Its music to my ears compared to the louder "ping" sound some drivers generate.

If you get the chance, do yourself a favour and go demo this club.

your speed is very similar to mines yet I play regular for launch.....how was the launch and where did you get the fubuki K shaft in it?? I love my Nike VR Pro STR8fit but the sound.......the sound isn't pleasing. Results are perfect....did you adjust the settings and how closed is the closed setting?

I believe the Fubuki K is the stock offering and if your swing is 92 and smooth, a stiff in this shaft is too much club. Get a regular and you will see more than 10 yds. In gain without sacrificing control.

K might be a stocked (available) special order type of deal... stock stock for a lack of a better term is the RIP'D NV

I thought it was the RIP also, can someone clarify the stock offering? Thanks for the review. Especially interested in the forgiveness vertically on the face as that is my normal miss on a driver miss. This is on the short list of potential drivers for 2012 along with the Cleveland Classic and the new Adams.

To clarify, stock shaft is Aldila RIP'd NV, no other stock options. The Fubuki K is not yet listed on their website however they may add it in 2012 as a custom option.

The OP is in Singapore. So a watered down Fubuki K might be stock for that market.

The Fubuki K in the Razr Fit was an original aftermarket Fubuki (x5ct model), not an OEM offering nor was it "watered down". This demo Razr Fit was reshafted, and I do intend to get my own "personalised" Razr Fit in due course --- with a Fubuki K 60 SR flex [ yes, there is a "mid" flex available in Asia ].

The LS has the Fubuki Alpha as stock........not the K
