Hybrids with steel shafts?

Yes. It works... it works better for some than others (people, and probably clubs).

My dad plays a Ping hybrid with a steel shaft, and hates it... but he doesn't love hybrids.

I've hit his, and liked it.

That said, I play a heavy graphite shaft (Project X Hybrid 95g) which I think is a nice balance for me.

When I first started using hybrids I used steel shafts because it made them feel more like irons, which I preferred at the time. .

When I switched irons a couple years ago (Titleist MBs to Callaway X forged) my 4 and 5 irons gained about 5 yards and my 4 iron and 3 hybrid had a distance gap of only 5 yards. Then I switched to graphite shafts (and newer hybrids) and that gave me about 10 yards more distance which got my distance gaps back to normal.

I only use steel in mine. I have a DG SL S300 in my 16* Adams PRO and a S300 in my 21* Hogan. When I did the reshaft, the premium hybrid shaft market was limited and nothing to date does a better job so I keep them in there. With the 21* I wanted 3-I distance not worried about length and with the 16* I went lighter because I wanted 4W distance.

I used to have them - when I had a problem hitting my TM burner hybrids too high. I went to graphite shafts with my Adams heads and ball flight was much more controllable.

I used to have steel in my Titleist 585h, which I used to swear by, which was in the bag up until this past summer when I bought a Adams Pro A12 with the Rip'd VS proto. Now I can't believe I didn't switch to graphite sooner!!

I did this for about 3 years. Loved it at the time, but now I'll take a quality heavier graphite over a steel. Not nearly as harsh.

I prefer fairway woods to hybrids....however, I recently tried a set of mizuno JPX 800 HD which come with a 4 and 5 hybrid with steel shafts.....i was a little shocked to see a steel shaft in a hybrid in a modern set....but I tried hitting them, and i can honestly say this is the first time i've actually loved a hybrid (heck, i've never even liked one).

So maybe there's merit to the steel shaft in a hybrid.....

For giggles, as I don't play a 3i, I put my X7 3i shaft into a 19* Halo I don't use anymore. Seriously, you can't miss a fairway with this thing. It's crazy accurate. It just doesn't really go anywhere. I found that's often the trade-off with most clubs when it comes to steel vs. graphite.

I have an i15 hybrid with KBS steel and a V-Steel 3 wood with S300.

I'm probably being cheap and am ill informed regarding graphite shafts for hybrids and woods, but I have had great success with steel in hybrids and woods.

I find it MUCH easier to hit a low shot with these clubs than with a graphite shaft.

played a 909H with a S300 and it was the best hybrid I ever hit until I ordered a VR Pro with a S300 - awesome combo.

I believe that steel shafts are appropriate for some hybrids, particularly in higher lofts.

Ping disagrees.

A few years ago, the Ping van showed up at our course and they had a ton of hybrids to demo - not a single one with a steel shaft.

i played steel in a number of my older hybrids - nike pro combo driving irons, nike slingshot tours and even a tm rescue tp (older model - 2004-2005). loved the steel. i stumbled up a 18* adams idea pro tour with a vs proto 85 i was soso about it. when i got a 22* adams idea pro tour with a 904hb and it was point and shoot, i knew this was the shaft. put one in the 18* head and love them.

I put steel in a component fairway as an experiment, and was so pleased with the results I matched both fairways AND hybrids to boot!
