BACK IN BLACK

Driver - Taylormade R9 420 10.5 TP F1 Motore 75 - I tested this when it first came out and really liked it, always thought I'd get one if the price was right. This was ended up being free after a bit of wheeler dealing - full adjustability on a budget - so far so good.

5 Wood - Tour Edge Exotics XCG V with Tour AD stiff - I've dropped the 3 wood as it was too close to the driver in distance and I struggled to control it.

You'll notice I've stripped the paintfill here - partly due to my plain Jane OCD (that their colour scheme matched a little better) and partly so I'll struggle to sell them (therefore promting me to keep hold of them)

Hybrid - Taylormade 09 Rescue 22 TP F1 Motore 65 - I liked the idea of adjustability and is pleasant to use.

Irons - Mizuno MP37 - first set of blades - it's just an itch I had to scratch - dechromed - DG SL S300
9 (45) 8 (40) 7 (35) 6 (30) 5 (27) 4 (24)


Wedge - Mizuno MPT10 50 55 60 Raw, unconforming forged loveliness (CF stamp on the 60 stands for Carlos Fandango)

Putter - Taylormade Raylor Ghost Daytona - balance is JUST right for me - sets up well, rolls well, looks great at address. Very heavy - 33" - big grip - lots of Tungsten down the shaft - D8

Bag - Adidas Strike AG - awesome bag . Cool looking, light, loads of pockets / features etc. matching generic headcovers and we're good to go.

Sweeeet bag man, loving the no paint on the R9. I have a R7 Limited and I want to peel mine off also, any tips or tricks? How did you go about removing yours?

Just cheap paint remover from any hardware store - just be careful not to let it spill onto the crown. The stuff I got was thick, almost gel like, so it was easy to apply. Leave it a minute or two and then gently use a tooth brush and tooth pick for the fiddly bits and rinse off. Careful though - the paintfill thing becomes addictive....

I've had to fiddle about with grips but settled on the old faithful Winn AVS midsize and it's all good. Super shape, very easy to align and a nice compromise between distance feel and straight line stability.

I have to say, along with a series of lessons from a great pro, I really reckon these irons have helped me concentrate more on the strike and I'm hitting more pure shots these days...

The wood covers are actually just dirt cheap ones off eBay - they cost like £5 each - made by Masters. They look OK but I doubt they'll last very long. They're a bit flimsy. I did even consider taping an extra stripe down the middle to make em look a bit more "Adidas" but this idea was quickly quashed in the name of decency.

I'd like just a set of plain black, fitted, leather, generic covers but they're hard to come by. I don't like the look of the Ilacs and they'd be tough to get in the UK too I guess.


I have a few sets of covers - I might go back to pom poms when these fall apart

Nice work, very cool look. Great set of irons even without the custom finish. That 420cc R9 is also much better of a driver than people made it out to be. Set up properly, it is as good as anything out there.

Pete Who did you get to remove the chrome from the irons ? Like the look of those!

I bought the irons off eBay already dechromed, and the wedges were the black satin finish which was an unplated finish.

I've since re done the black with black paintfill - look a bit better - and added some Adams hybrids / 3 wood. Pics to follow...

Lytham is very nice - I watched the Ladies Open there a couple of years ago. I've never played there, but I dod get to play Royal Liverpool once a year My "home" club is actually Clays in Wrexham

Great bag & look forward to seeing the Adams gear.

I like the stripped look too and did the same to my V Steel last year - its at a mates hence no photo till I get it back.
