DFW...Places to Play??

Hello folks...

...looking for a little help from those of you who either live in or might be familiar with golf in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I'm going to be in town for business and may have the chance to squeeze in a couple rounds...never played in Texas before, and I'm completely unfamiliar with what courses are around and which might be worth my time to play. Not looking specifically for anything super high-end...just a couple good, solid courses where I might be able to enjoy a little warm weather and green grass while escaping the Utah winter for a bit.

P.S. - Staying in Bedford, so something close to that would be a bonus I supppose.

Try Texas star...really nice course and close to where your staying. Bear Creek is also right by the airport and has 2 nice courses.

I'll second Texas Star. Other good courses within 20 minutes or so of Bedford are Iron Horse off Loop 820 or Waterchase off I-30 in Arlington. Ditto Golf Course off 157 in Arlington is in great shape for a muni.

You don't say what budget you are on...that makes a difference.

Grapevine (Municipal), 27 holes, nice layout reasonable cost.

Tierra Verde, south end of Arlington. I always thought it was underrated. I liked it.

Riverside, just south of the airport. A little odd design at times, but not a tricked up round. Easy to get to, not top dollar.

Ditto is a great muni to play. Very Texas style course, tight, not easy. Not going to host a tour event ever, but a fun layout to play. Scored my only hole in one there.

I liked Waterchase a lot, not an easy course, pretty good shape whenever I played it. Never had a problem getting on there either. Interesting track to play.

Tangle Ridge is a nice course, but a long drive to the south end of Grand Prairie. Muni, so it's reasonable fee, nice layout, not easy.

People I know (and trust) say the Tribute is good, never played there.

Cowboys is very pricey, I never played there. Tour 18 in Flower Mound was rumored to be in poor condition, but that was some time ago and it might be ok now.

Chase Oaks in Plano is a nice course, I never loved it though.

Tennyson park is a nice historic place to play. A drive across Dallas, but has two courses and was always a good time.

Agree with Grapevine very good course for the cost, weekend times can be tough though.

Chase Oaks in Plano is closed for renovations hopefully will be better.

City of Dallas has redone most of there course over the lasdt couple of years. Tenison Park, Cedar Crest (favorite of mine in Oak Cliff) Stenvens Park right off of downtown.

I know you said that you will be in the Bedford area, I just don't know much about that side of the Metroplex. but there are many great places to play.

I second the Old American. A little pricey, but I enjoyed it.

Another vote for Texas Star. Lot's of elevation chnages. Fun course in good condition and not overpriced. here's a link to photos. Texas Star Pix

Thanks for all the suggestions guys...really appreciate the responses.

I ended up playing Bear Creek West yesterday and Texas Star this afternoon. Really enjoyed both courses! Texas Star especially is a great layout. Nice to play in 70-degree temps when snow and ice is the order back at home.
