Sub70 review

I recently bought a pair of Sub70 limited edition pants and a shirt. Here's my review.

The shirt is very nice. The material is techy and performs well without feeling techy. The style and fit are great. The color blocking is very nice. The stitching etc. Seems very nice. Not sure how long the rubbery logo imprint will last, though. Overall, very satisfied.

The pants, though, are mixed. The style and cut are great. They look really nice. The pockets are definitely designed for golf. The front ones re very shallow, making it a lot easier to grab tees or ball markers with a gloved or sweaty hand. The back pockets are exterior making it simple to put a glove or scorecard in and out.

The fabric and stitching, however, does not seem very good. The fabric feel is a little stiff. I can deal with that. The stitching, though, seems very poor and cheaply done. Multiple places have strings coming out already. It just doesn't feel solid. Compared to other pants like JL or Polo, these don't seem nearly as well made. The style is great, quality might be suspect. We shall see how they hold up.

I recently bought a pair of shorts and a shirt from them. My feelings mirror your comment above.

Not so sure I'll be a repeat customer.

Thanks for the reviews, I was considering picking up some shorts and pants. Personally, I prefer deep front pockets, especially after having lost countless ball markers and divot tools that I really liked fall out of pants/shorts with shallow pockets when I sit down.

Maybe their new spring line has better construction? Do you plan on returning them? I know they're a sponsor here, so maybe they can address the quality concern, if one does exist?

No plans to return either. Really happy with the shirt. It's just the construction of the pants. I wore them to work today. Looked great. I just hope they hold up. Having to clip numerous strings off stitches. The feel just isn't solid. The pockets are the most shallow I've ever seen. By far. I can get three knuckles in and thats it.

Wow, good to know. The pockets are definitely a deal breaker for me, so thanks for that info.

Plan on keeping mine also. The 'sale' prices are fair for what you get.

Really like the design of many of their shirts and why I bought. Just expected the quality to be better.
It doesn't matter what the sale price is...if the products originally sold for double that, which is the case here, I would expect a certain level of quality from the items. Do the shorts also have very shallow pockets?

I bought 2 pair of the tartan shorts last year. I have worn each of them 3 times with 3 washes each. They look like they are 5 years old. I am really disappointed to say the least as I like the style. They are a great co to work with but the quality seems to fall short IMO.

The pants will hold up.

If anything, they're "over"stitched--I've attributed the "straggly" strands to that.

They self professed to having stitching problems a couple years back...they probably erred on the side of too heavy stitching this past year...resulting in "extra" strands that need to be trimmed, especially after the initial wash.

I've seen all the new gear also. It is EXTREMELY well made. They have some more neutral colors coming out also. They are a young company and have really listened to customer feedback and seemed to have learned from past issues.

I've tried them all and Sub70 is easily my brand of choice for bottoms.

I am not affiliated with Sub70, but I do probably own more of their gear than about anyone. These are just my personal observations...

I just got my first pair yesterday and so far so good. I wore them to work today and they felt great and look really nice as well. My fiance even liked them so they must be doing something right :good: I'm looking to add a few more pays while they are on sale.

On a side note, does anyone have the grey mini houndstooth pants that could take a close up picture for me? I'm having a hard time seeing what it really looks like on the website.

Have you seen any of the mini houndstooth in person yet?

Pic doesn't show very well in the house...if it were daylight I'd snap you one.

They have a nearly "glittery" sheen to them. Very flashy. I love mine...my absolute favorite pants, but they are not for the shy/faint of heart.

Any advice on the Fit on the limited pants...pretty true to size or to they fit a little small since it is a eruo cut?

Thanks in advance!
Very true to size. Doesn't inflate the ego like some American pants do nowdays though.

For me, the 34" Sub70 is maybe .5-1" bigger than a 32" in Adidas waist. If on the fence about a size, I'd go up one. The difference from size to size is truly just a waist difference though...the cut doesn't really change. For example: 34" Adidas pants absolutely swallow me whole while the 32" are just a tad smaller...the overall cut of the pant changes so drastically from 32 to 34"...this is NOT the case with Sub70.

Sub70 gear is def top notch and worth checking out. The quality, along with the designs keep getting better year after year.

FWIW, the shirts are more of a Euro cut and run small. (I wear a medium in Adidas and had to go with XL in Sub70...pants however I've found to run pretty true to size).

If I have a chance this weekend I'll snap some pics of a few different pieces.

(contact member/sponsor JJ on the board. awesome guy to work with!)

Cheers.

I will echo this...the shirts are AT LEAST one size smaller than American shirts. For me, they've run short more than anything. I'd say a Sub70 large fits more like one of the Tailored Adidas Formotion shirts in medium.

I agree with this. The shirts fit just like JL. I actually had to return the L shirt for an XL. Easy process but it did cost me an extra $12 in postage.

 • 2 weeks later...

I own a quite a few pairs of pants from the 2010 line and have not had a problem. I have all my higher end golf pants dry cleaned which seems to keep them looking brand new. I have not ordered the shirts do I have no experience with sizing there but the pants are on the euro side not baggy, which I like. Also I have 3 pair from 2011 I haven't had an issue other than a zipper and I think that was more my fault than the zippers.

Guys,
Thanks for all the comments!
We did have some problems with stitching a couple years back.
And I have not had any lately. But if you do have any concerns or problems feel free to contact me and I will do my best to get you sorted!
We take pride in customer service and always try to be the best we can be!

As mentioned before the 2012 gear will look awesome and from a technical standpoint top notch!
We constantly try to improve in fabrics, stitching, cut, etc... so not only from a design standpoint but we ourselves are all golfers. So we try to design what we would like to see
on a course and how it should feel when playing.
We don't have any designers who design for a paycheck... We all eat and sleep golf, much like the membership here at WRX LOL

So keep your eyes out on some posts next couple of weeks with the official 2012 pics!
Thanks and stay in touch!
JJ
