I'm looking forward to this list of several dozen people who have won at least this many times and got a major by the age of 22.

If we go way back in time, 11 can be scraped up ..............

19yrs 10mths 18days John McDermott (1911 US Open)

20yrs 4mths 12days Francis Ouimet (1913 US Open)

20yrs 4mths 16days Gene Sarazen (1922 US Open)

20yrs 7mths 11days Tom Creavy (1931 US PGA)

21yrs 0mths 24days Willie Auchterlonie (1893 Open)

21yrs 1mth 29days Horace Rawlins (1895 US Open)

21yrs 8mths 0days Walter Hagen (1914 US Open)

21yrs 8mths 25days Willie Anderson (1901 US Open)

So not even one dozen and nobody apart from Woods in nearly 100 years. Yep, Rory is nothing special.

In other words, the only person there from the last 60 years is the Tiger himself.

I think he is already used to having the eyes of the world on him and having high expectations placed on him.

I would agree with that...

I was just throwing it out there.

Where do you guys get your information from ? I think some of the posts here are wishful thinking

He has based himself in Florida for tax reasons etc,,,,Reality he has rented a house in Florida until the Masters as staying in a hotel would create problems also Mum and Dad will be with him and he will be back in ireland soon ..Munster V Ulster in rugby, trust me he wont miss that ( a story that wont go away is that he is the secret sponsor of the Ulster rugby team ) Of course target golf suits his game ( i was shocked at the attempted low boring second shot at 14 on sunday ) Apart from the Open and the irish Open this year there is no links golf on the tour, He went to the gym so he would look better in Clothes ? ( does everyone really like muscle ? ) He cut his hair to be more appealing or was it because he would sweat like a pig in that heat with a really thick head of hair and as for the poster who live in Europe, well my friend I have spent many weeks for the last 40 years each year in Florida, would i want to live there? not in a million years, I love the Emerald Isle thank you very much and we play real golf here :)

Having said that well done Rory, great round by Tiger, superb tourney by Gillis ( deserved ) and for those who said Rory could not putt or not able to take pressure, have a rethink guys you know who you are

Vindog,

Indeed McIlroy will have a bullseye on his back. The trouble is, they'll need to be in front of him at the end of the 3rd round or they won't get near him. I think he can go low if he wants to. But yesterday, he just needed to play steady golf and went and did it. Much like how Tiger concluded tournaments when he was leading after 3 and got the wins.

I would agree. And he's is no stranger to eyes upon him.

He had a great approach to yesterday's round. Take what's given and make the shots when you need them. I'm not so sure last Spring's Rory would have thought the same.

Kudos to him for notching that little piece of wisdom...

Swing and a miss fellas, I'm pretty sure I could take apart any quote and make it sound bad.

The full context, you know, for people that actually like facts.

"To me, it was like my final in a way," McIlroy said of his win over Westwood. "That was the one I wanted all week and I got. And that's what I got myself up for. Yeah, maybe mentally and emotionally it did take a little bit out of me. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that Hunter played very, very solid golf.

"Even though I threw a few birdies and an eagle at him in the back nine, he still responded well and held on," he said. "I think during the course of the week, he had played the best golf and deserved to win."
Very honest and classy comments from probably the best golfer on the planet. My guess is that many of the people dissing Rory are Eldrick fans and they refuse to believe that Rory is on his way to becoming the dominant player in the game. Sad.
Or maybe they're just fans of other golfers (or golf in general) that really don't think it's in stone that it's already predetermined that he'll be the best golfer on God's earth. Sports is funny like that sometimes.

Let Rory live with the success and the hype for a few years and see how he handles it all. So far, so good. But there are thousands of ways to screw it all up and be toppled from the pedestal that everyone seems to want to place him on. All it takes is one DUI or one dalliance with the wrong woman and the public will scream for your head. A lot can go wrong between today and that 19th major.

He's been living with the hype for over 13 years. He was on tv in Ireland when he was 9 years old. Europe have been putting pressure on him being the next superstar since he was 15 years old.

That is one thing I haven't seen out of Rory really.. playing different shots.

I say he is on the bubble of missing the cut this week.

I think this sums up the level of knowledge and expertese that is offered on here. Along with the other statement I can't be bothered going back to find to paste, Unless the #1 is from the US the US do not recognise it. FACT
Kaymer wasn't good enough to be #1 after a major because it was a one off,
Donald wasn't good enough because he hadn't won a major even though he was concistent
Now Rory has showed concistency over the year with a major and guess what?,, he's not good enough either! :russian_roulette:
