Odyssey ProType #9 ~ Love it !

I picked up a ProType number 9 a couple of weeks ago and I love it already. Today I had 5 Birdies in 16 holes and rolled the ball superbly. Last week on the fastest most sloped greens in the area I putted really well with it (until the last where a chip jamed the pin for Eagle and I missed the 2 foot birdie putt). I've always liked heel shafted putters and regretted selling my Del Mar 3.5 but this is as good if not better than that was. Great balance and feel and for a person who's bad putt is a pull (like me) this is a superb putter. I really liked the Bronze Tour #9 but didn't like the back weighted Black #9's, this is the best #9 so far, however if I could change one thing it would be the shiney finish, I'd prefer a matt or Black finish. Anybody who suffers from pulled short putts really should give this a try.

I agree this is the best feeling #9 Odyssey has made. I think this competes really well to the PT82 but slightly heavier. I am waiting on the Metal-X putters in #9 and the 8802 head to compare before dropping a couple C notes. Definitely better than the previous black series!!

I actually stopped by the shop this morning an saw they had the #9 milled on the rack, I putted around with it and it does feel NICE! But still not better than my TM Est. 79 880

I like the new protypes as well but i find the Cleveland Classic 2 a lil better overall. Seems more forgiving as well as a larger sweet spot. Plus love the black matte finish opposed tot he silver of the odyssey. Oh and its a little over 1/3 less than the odyssey.

are they [i]really [/i] that much better than black series tour designs? since both are milled from carbon steel? except the protypes have no tungsten weighting in the back

What I really dislike about the black tour is the white sight line that is painted on and very badly at that. Why they didn't actually have if like all other 9s where it is welled out and then paint filled is beyond me. That really bothers me with that putter. Otherwise it is right up there....cuz I love putters that have that black finish.

The new protype putters are amazing flatsticks. No doubt will go under the radar due to the lack of marketing which is a shame. I was rolling these down at the PGA show and was very impressed.

For me personally YES without a doubt it is that much better. I've had a lot of #9's from the original one to the Black Tour & Black ix. IMO before the ProType the Odyssey #9 Tour bronze coloured one was the best. The Black tour and Ix just didn't do it for me, I didn't like the back weighting feel with the tungsten and the 'T' sight line was not as good on either model. Plus the line across the flange where the Tungsten meets the main putter wasn't to my liking either. If the ProType had a black mist finish it would be the perfect #9.

Anybody else has some green time with this putter that can share some thoughts on it? They look beautiful and I really liked the one I rolled in my local shop, but I didn't get to try it on a real green.

Well on a whim I picked up a Black Series I #9 yesterday because the price was too good and I wanted to back to that style of putter. I know it not your cup of tea but man I like the way I put a roll on the ball with this thing. It's interesting that you find this style of putter keeps you from pulling your putts....I never thought of it but you may be on to something. I have had the original XG 9, a tour issue xg9,both Cleveland versions and never noticed how I nevered really had a pulling putts issue with them. My problem has always been have one looked hooked to me when I set one down,but my current one sits great.

I'm not a fanboy one way or the other. Ive been messing around with the iPing app looking for a wand that fit my stroke - strong arc.

The odyssey pro type, to me, felt amazing - just perfect.

I went in looking for the Monterey 1.5 or Del Mar, and ended up with the pro #6 because of how it looked and felt. My first odyssey.

I change putters MAYBE once a year - been on a long putter for about a year.

#9s I've rolled in the past seem to want to toe close very quickly .. always put me off the #9

Here are some pics. This does have a different feel from the Black. Hard to describe. A little harder I'd say, but it is still not a hard feeling putter AT ALL. This #9 has yellow fill and grip and it looks damn good in person. I'm surprised how good, really.

The #2 and #6 is are sleepers, too.

Wow, that's a beautiful looking putter.

I keep going back to that #9 or close to it mallet style. I was just going back and forth between the Del Mar and Miura 007, but probably should have added this putter to them mix. If the Miura doesn't work out, I know where to go next.

Odyssey really got it perfect with these. The feel is a little "stronger' I would say than the milled black series...but not harsh at all. Still maintains that soft carbon steel feel but with a little more feedback might I say. The grip is very comfortable but also never feels like it will slip...man this is a wonderful putter.

I've got a good few rounds under my belt with the ProType now, it's a great putter, feel is superb, looks great, distance control is a doddle & it's real easy to line up. I'm loving this putter, I've also picked up a 2nd hand Tour Design #8 as my back up, which should be here next week some time.

Ok, I couldn't stand it. I snagged a #9 Protype off ebay last week and got to use it today for the first time. Well, in short.... This is a really sharp looking, phenomenal performing putter. I should have tried a #9 style a long time ago. I'm a strong arc stroke putter anyways so I took to the #9 very quickly. This putter really fits my eye and it oozes quality. The finish, the face milling, the grip, the headcover....everything is just top of the line. Hopefully it's not just a short honeymoon thing because I really do like to find a putter and stick with it. I honestly think I'm going to have this one for a long time. If you're on the fence about the Protypes, then doubt no more. These are fantastic putters.

Just purchased a Protype #9 on a whim. Wow, what a great setup and feel. I was not familiar with this series of putters, but rolled one in the store last night and was very surprised!

I picked up a black series #9 a few months ago and i'm really liking it. I have rolled the protype a couple of times in Golfsmith and it feels really nice also. $269 is a little steep when the black series was just on sale for $99. The black series is so nice on downhill putts, you just put the ball out on the toe a little bit and it comes off so soft. I made a sick 20' downhiller today. If or when the protype goes on sale, I might pick one up.

How is the feel compared to a Studio Select or a Redwood/Anser Milled? I did not like the Tour Designs, zero feel. The Protypes don't have the screwed piece so I'm guessing they have better feel and feedback. I also like the fact that on the #2 model (Newport 2 style), the toe mass is slightly longer than the heel mass from atop. It creates more of a even perception at address.

My wife got me the newer series (2013) of this putter for Christmas. My old putter was an old school Cleveland Classic 8802 style putter.
I can not even begin to describe how pleased I am with this putter.

- It provided me with much better distance control
- I typically miss to the left of the cup, which is a push for me as I am left-handed, but with this putter I am just rolling it much more to the center of the cup.
- I am not sure what or how to explain this ... but the ball seems to just roll better, or cleaner, or smoother.
- To me it feels weighted perfectly

I am thoroughly pleased with this putter and look forward to many years of use.
