3wd, 5wd, 3h?

I currently have the fast 12 fairway wood, and looking to add either the rbz tour 5 wood, and rbz tour 4 hybrid, does anyone go with the 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 hybrid combination because I think that's a little too close together..........

That is my current setup, 3w 5w and 3h. I haven't decided if I am going to keep this setup or not. I do find decent gaps though so it isn't a gap issue. Just trying to decide if I would rather have another wedge available.

Don't get caught up on labels. Not all 5Ws and 3Hs are equal due to different lofts, head sizes, and shaft lengths. Figure out what your distances are, what you need, and gap accordingly. Remember, there is always customization for the fine tuning. For example, if you end up with a 5W and 3H that are too close, but you really want to keep both in the bag, you can always have the 3H cut down half an inch to an inch. You could also look into something labeled as a 4H but get it with a slightly longer shaft. It's all variable and depends on how you want to approach it.

Another factor to consider is do you really need that many clubs at the long end of the bag? Or would you be better off with another wedge? Again, it depends - depends on your game, how you approach short vs long shots in your course management, and the courses you play.

thats the set up I run, BUT Puppetmaster makes some very valid points above
make sure you have the distances out of your clubs that work for your game

it works for mine, but i play my 18.5 5w @ 42.5".....its kinda like my 3w from the turf and my "get it home in 2 club"
and then my HY is for long par 3's and such

I needed the extra clubs up top, as my gaps are properly filled w wedges (also tweak my 9i, PW, and 54 lofts to accomodate this)

If you're looking to add a club to the bag, you need to think what club will help you shoot the lowest scores. Which all depends on your own game. If you're a shorter hitter you'll probably benefit from the 3wd, 5wd, 3h combo. But for anyone thinking of adding a club I always suggest adding a wedge. If you want to add the hybrid becaus you don't hit long irons too well you can always choke up on the 5wd.

I used to play the 3wd, 5wd, 3h combo, but now the only wood I carry is a 3wd and I carry 4 wedges (pw, 51 dg., 56 deg, 60 deg).

Add a wedge! Trust me, you'll b happy with the decision.

I play 16.5* wood and 19* hybrid. They are labeled as #4 wood and #3 hybrid. I am not a long hitter and distance gap is manageable and I can put one more wedge.

Not sure of your yardages, but I found my 19* hybrid and 17* FW too close to justify both. In spite of the Golf Digest article, the 4 wood went in favor of a 3 wood.

I game a 3, 5 and 3 hybrid and love it. Fills the gap very nicely fit me!

I play 3w, 3hy, 4i. that way i can carry 4 wedges.

15* 3 wood, 20* hybrid, 4 iron. 46, 50, 54, and 60* wedges here. I have a 20 yd gap in-between the top clubs but choking down or hitting cuts fixes it. Wedges go 130, 115, 105...and the 60 for work around the greens. Give me wedges any day.

Yardages have been discussed previously. You may also want to think about flight of the ball. You may end up with yardages that are close, or overlapping, but which will give you the ball flight you want into the green? Or maybe you just adapt and are able to change the trajectory without changing clubs. Just another thought to ponder.

15* 3-wood, 18* 5-wood, 22* hybrid. I used to have a second hybrid inbetween, but that left too big of a gap between it and the 3 wood. Amongst those three clubs I'm pretty set from 190-240 yards, I at least have a club that can get me there. Also allows me to plug a gap wedge between my pitching and sand wedge.
